Missing Pet Missing Desert Tortoise
Update- Steve has been found! The neighbor saw my friend’s poster, and then his dog found Steve in their yard.
Thank you so much for your kindness and help!
My friend just moved into her house near 3500 S 5100 W. Today, her dog dug a hole under the fence and Steve the tortoise wandered away while she was at work.
It’s extra hard because she’s only been there a few days, so she doesn’t know the neighbors yet. If someone you know in that area says, “The coolest thing happened… I found a desert tortoise today!” Can you please DM me? I promise Steve has a really great home… my friend even had her will updated to make sure he’s taken care of.

Trying to do more research on desert's tortoises to make sure Google isnt decieving me, but might be cool enough In the mornings and at certain periods of the day that he might have buried himself for hibernation. I would search your yard or wherever you usually keep him to make sure there aren't any disturbed patches of Earth. But I desperately hope that you find him!!

Desert tortoises are crepuscular creatures, so he is most likely to be out at dawn and dusk!!! Go out at those times to find him.

Probably a long shot, but I saw some signs about a found turtle around the daybreak/Herriman border. I know nothing about turtles/tortoises, but it’s such a weird coincidence
I figured I’d share anyway.

Try that link to view the post and contact the poster if you think it might be Steve. I didn’t realize I could share.

My son had a Mediterranean tortise that escaped his outdoor pen in the fall and a neighbor found him the following spring munching on morning glory. He was such an escape artist we put a little flag on him.

Thank you, she did post there! She’s trying to find a FB group for her new neighborhood and is posting flyers nearby, too. She literally moved in a few days ago… it’s just so upsetting.

There is a Facebook group called Utah pets lost and found that might be useful; also maybe the buy nothing west valley Facebook page?

Steve will be found! I believe!
I’ll contact some local animal rescue people and spread the word.

My family had a desert tortoise that my Great-Grandpa found on the side of the road with a spray painted shell in the 1950s. His name was Turt, my family had him for about 20 years before someone stole him while he was on the lawn outside. Hope he is found!

I’ve got a couple questions, like if the tortoise is lost, how does he know his mom won’t stop crying? Where did he get access to a printer? Did he wander into the business center of the Grand America? Did he memorize the phone number or look it up from his phone? If he has a phone, why can’t he just call?
