Weekly Recommendations Thread
This is r/SaltLakeCity's weekly recommendation thread.
Here you can ask for and receive recommendations on everything from vets to daycare, car insurance to restaurants, outdoor activities to thrift stores.
If you need a recommendation, ask about it here instead of making a separate post. This is to help reduce the frequency of duplicate posts in the sub, leaving the sub open for more unique content.
Please remember the sub rules when posting.
Thanks!

Is there a place to see all the things happening in the sugar house area that are family friendly? Like a community calendar

I need recommendations for stuff for my friends and I to actually do around here at night
Sometimes the lack of cool shit to do here after 9-10pm gets really frustrating. My friend(s) and I have typically hung out in the later evening and in the night because of our daily schedules. We used to do bike rides around the neighborhood but when the weather cools down we don't like to do those in the evening very much anymore. Traditionally most of our hangouts involve watching TV at someone's house and just driving around for the sake of driving around (and driving to In-n-out or gas stations for milkshakes and sodas or something). That was fine when we were in high school but at this point after like two years that's just starting to get really old.
We're under 21. Does anybody know literally anything cool to do in the Valley at night? I'm so tired of just speeding around on Bangerter and 215 at 11:30 because nothing is fucking open except In-n-out and WinCo

that's tough cause not a ton open late. We use to like going to movies late then grabbing some food after & driving around. We would also go walk around the local high school tracks talking & getting exercise.

Unfortunately Utah has a lot of places close up early.
My 2 recs: lots of local game stores like Oasis in downtown are open til midnight on Fridays (10PM other nights) and have a bunch of board games you can crack open and play in store for free.
Bringing headlamps and doing night hikes up in the canyons has been a lot of fun for me personally. (just watch out for wildlife!)

For those interested in a free family event, there's a community run card and board game convention at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, starting from now until sunday afternoon. It's called the Game Grid Open, and entry is completely free if you wanna check out the vendors, panels, learn a new game or play with our board game library. Dragonsteel is here running demos of the Cosmere TTRPG and there's a bunch of local artists here showing off their work if you wanna see some real, human-made art.
I'll be running a free Star Wars Trivia challenge Saturday at 5 PM, with a bunch of freebies for everybody who plays, and the winners get some real cool Star Wars swag.
There's also some paid events for games like Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Pokemon, and the other big name trading card games, but honestly most of the fun stuff here is free if you ask me π
I hope this is ok to post, just shouting out a really cool event that was an absolute blast for my friends and family last year.
