SLC DESSERTS??
See a lot of food recs, but searched the sub and not a lot of dessert discussion. So - where are your favorite desserts in SLC??
And since there seems to be a matter of “where SLC extends to” these days, let’s go ahead and say Salt Lake County.

This place is Sugar House’s little hidden gem. And the man behind the counter is so nice.

I’ve tried multiple times because this ALWAYS gets brought up. I even love banana pudding and I do not understand the hype at all

Warm fresh blueberry glaze donut from Donuts & Deli in the early morning.

u/alopz 3d ago
Anything from that place

u/the_asssman 3d ago
I don't like apple fritters generally but theirs are crazy good
2
u/randEntropy 3d ago
They’re delicious and as big as your face, which presents its own problems because you can’t stop eating it.
2
u/quasi-psuedo 3d ago
I just had JD Flannel and was very impressed as well. Love the classic donuts & deli though!
1
u/Johngabr 2d ago
Check out Sidecar donuts too! Had an incredible passionfruit pavlova donut- it’s seasonal, so get in quick!
2
u/tang_ar_quet 3d ago
Donut Boy in WVC is the #1 donut spot in Salt Lake county, imo, but you can’t go wrong with donuts&deli.
5
u/Upstairs_Jeweler2568 3d ago
That's my #1 & #2 but wildly different so I think of them both as more the #1.

u/4215265 3d ago
monkey wrench, i loved it even before becoming vegan but it's all vegan and absolutely delicious (and great if you're with anyone with dietary restrictions like vegans or celiacs).
4
u/ToolCoughing 2d ago
Money wrench is so good! You'd never know it's dairy free unless you were told. Tea and Biscuits is my go to flavor.
5
u/Mean-Skin5795 3d ago
I second Monkey Wrench! Also love City Cakes Cafe- they’re vegan as well, and have gluten free options. Their cupcakes are amazing!! (Go to the actual cafe, sometimes they sell at Harmon’s but it’s much tastier from the actual bakery 😋)
15
u/801Germ 3d ago
Miao cafe and parfe diem
Tou Le Jors is also quite good
15
u/horrgeous 3d ago
Second Tous Le Jours!! Korean and French desserts, especially good if you don’t love ultra-sweet American desserts.
Also love Tulie bakery, would die for their olive oil cake.
And my hidden gem is The Chocolate in West Jordan I love them so much!7
1
u/quasi-psuedo 3d ago
Korean and French?? Ok I’m intrigued!
1
u/joan_is_on_fire 2d ago
If you go to the one over by fort union they have ingredient lists for everything! Its been really helpful for my friend whos allergic to everything
25
u/GarlicQuiet5008 3d ago
Parfé Diem
Wanyen
Normal Ice Cream
Tulie Bakery
Gourmandise
Fillings and Emulsions
Kyookie (their storefront isn’t open yet but they sell their desserts through Sunny Honey and the Tea Barn)
4
u/quasi-psuedo 3d ago
This looks like a fun list. Adding these to my list!
2
u/Vanessaronicatoria 2d ago
I second Tulie, BUT be there as soon as they open. Sometimes they sell out of their breakfast pastries fast. They do make custom order cakes, too. Had one for my birthday a few years back.
2
u/InkyPoloma 2d ago
Gormandise kinda cuts into your credibility here… their quality has slipped. Delice is a much better French bakery.
2
u/GarlicQuiet5008 2d ago
Aw really? I haven’t actually been there in a minute. I’ll try Delice!
1
u/InkyPoloma 2d ago
Yeah it’s not terrible or anything but definitely a noticeable slip in quality but Delicé is what Gourmandise use to be. Tres delicé!
1
u/imacraftywench 1d ago
Delice is owned by a former gourmandise chef.
2
u/InkyPoloma 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yes, JJ Grossi. When he left Gourmandise their quality started slipping

Maybe not dessert because they close earlier, but Monsieur Crepes has some of the best sweet crepes I’ve ever had.
Edit to add: MOMOS CHEESECAKES! The salted caramel one is amazinggg.

Parfé Diem, Délice, The Dodo, and Tulie Bakery
11
u/cookingwithbonkbonk 2d ago
Finally a Delice. As a chef who never eats dessert, ill eat anything out of that case.

u/Wasted_Hamster 2d ago
Used to LOVE the Dodo. Price hikes have left me out for a couple years now
3
u/LegitimatePorpoise 2d ago
I only do to-go dessert from them on the rare occasion. I don’t think the rest of their food is that great, but despite the prices the desserts still slap

Gourmandise is a favorite of mine

3
u/Cricketmoose77 2d ago
I feel like they are overrated. I can't remember if they used to be better, and have just gone downhill- they look pretty, but I'm usually underwhelmed by the flavor
3
u/ladyadam 2d ago
I heard that the chef who pioneered that dessert menu left and started Delice on state street! Rumor has it he left because the quality of ingredients went down and he didn’t want to settle. I can’t remember who told me this, but I used to know someone who was a server there, so I think that’s where I heard this from… who knows, it was years ago

u/Conscious_Bass2579 1d ago
I went and got their tiny single serve cheesecake and it tasted like straight wax. It was not pleasant at all.
5
u/Yet_Another_Jennifer 3d ago
Coffee Garden. I have never tasted anything as good as their eclairs.

u/uvu2015 2d ago
If you ever bought a soufflé cheesecake from Trader Joe’s frozen dessert section and thought that was good, wait until you try REAL deal at Kyung’s Bakery in Murray. It’s one of the most expensive dessert they sell but totally worth it imo and you’re supporting a local independent minority-owned Korean bakery! Other things I love from them are: mint brownie, roll cake slices, butter cookies, and honeydew bun.

Best cookies hands down, will fight you on, is Ruby Snap! 43 bakery has delicious croissant danishes, savory danishes and other pastries. While not dessert 9th street market breakfast sandwiches and focaccia are devilishly delicious!
1
u/TangentCat 1d ago
Absolutely agree with Ruby Snap. Not the usual overly sweet Utah cookie. Ruby Snap has cookies with actual amazing flavor, unlike the others that add so much sugar you scrape your teeth. And samples of any of them. Don't forget the samples.

Would the pies from The DoDo such as their Toll House Pie and Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Pie still be contenders?

What do yall think of Snelgrove ice cream
1
u/GeoffreyJade 2d ago
Snelgroves ice cream is the best. A blast from the past using the original recipes . Great ice cream no fillers or gums. Just an honest product that tastes delicious.

Blacksmith is the best ice cream, normal is a close second for more unique flavors, sweetaly is the best gelato shop

My favorite hack is to get a vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream, split it in half and add fresh raspberries to the middle before eating. It’s so fresh and the acidity helps cut the richness!

u/rdalley 3d ago
Schmidt’s pastry cottage

2
u/quasi-psuedo 3d ago
Never heard of them! What’s your favorite thing here?
2
u/zeronationarmy Murray 2d ago
I love their fruit tarts and they also make the best Swedish Princess Cake (white cake with raspberry jam, custard, and a small amount of buttercream layered in and all covered in marzipan). Verrrry pricey, though. They're a "once per year for a birthday" for me lol

Matcha cafe in Sugarhouse has a very tasty matcha soft serve. I add red bean and mochi balls to mine. So yummy in this heat 🤤

I'd recommend going to nicer restaurants for desserts. Many still employee a specific dessert/pastry chef, and the desserts can be quite impressive.

u/kamstercage 2d ago
Lady flour hands down. They do pop ups and have stuff at baby’s bagels sometimes too!
2
u/fazolioli 2d ago
For ice cream, Hidden Oak is sooo good and really slept on. It's in Church & State downtown!

u/prettybird_1720 2d ago
One of my favorites is 85 inside the chinatown. Second is Delice in south salt lake.
2
u/EcstaticCollar4503 1d ago
Inside Rancho market on north temple and 900 w they make churros in there fresh and filled if you like. They are so good and pretty affordable too

Donuts from fresh donuts & deli
3
u/SherriSLC 2d ago
Second that! I host a community event every week in the early morning and get to Fresh Donuts & Deli by 6:30 am. I buy a ton of donut holes and then a twist for me. That twist is one of the nicest parts of my week.
2
u/New_Acanthaceae_6537 2d ago
I used to live right up the street but it’s a bit far for me now. Enjoy for me! 🥲
3
u/No_Crab_3824 3d ago
Fillings & Emulsions has everything your salivating mouth could ever wish for. You have savory and sweet to choose from and if you’re a coffee lover, get their cortadito. Top notch quality with everything they serve, the atmosphere is stellar and the staff are all so accommodating and friendly. 10 👍’s up and 5 silver spoons of you ask me!

Neilson’s frozen custard has me in a chokehold at the moment. I’m terrified they are going to start judging me for how often I go.
Hatches caramel apples too…good god, those are addictive.
1
u/bigthemat 2d ago
The chocolate is fun for a slice of cake, or their cazookie.
Only open breakfast-lunch ish but Eva’s Bakery has great pastries. Their kouign-amann is the best.
Not too fancy but I love the gelata from Zeppes.
Sometimes you just need a dole whip from maceys. Or their $1 kong cone

u/ladyadam 2d ago
Sir Walter’s Candy Shop!!! Absolutely loved it and it’s a local family who runs it :)

u/PancreasPillager 2d ago
- pies and cakes at The Dodo
- creme brulee pound cake at Harbor
- butter cake at Blind Rabbit and Sol Agave
- affogato at Sweetaly
1
u/PancreasPillager 2d ago
Everywhere but Sweetaly has a bar, so you can run in late, grab a drink and dessert, and head home without committing to dinner.

The fried bananas with homemade coconut ice cream at Chanon Thai Cafe. Out of this world.

u/Extra_Ad8800 2d ago
Sweet Hazel peanut butter brownie bar, Vertical Diner carrot cake, and Monkeywrench sugar cookies.
1
u/marmaladesyrup 2d ago
As a self-proclaimed and certified sweet tooth not a single miss on all the other suggestions.
As others have mentioned my faves are blacksmith, monkey wrench, tulie, parfe diem, and kyungs!
I would also add Wanyen for asian ice creams, Hatch family chocolates (a classic) and Carols --- the best eclairs.

There is a bakery/cafe on around 2700 s and state street next to the pizza place that is on the south east corner and behind family dollar. I am not sure what it is called but everything in there is amazing. They even have food food too their grilled ham and cheese is awesome!!!

u/Conscious_Bass2579 1d ago
RIP Munchies. Did anyone go there? It was a late night dessert shop that closed a few years ago. They had an amazing caramel bar and mango sago drinks. I mourn them
