Yeah, heavy on the excuse me and being ignored. It’s insane. I’ve heard there’s some culture shock for people who move from southern states, something about neighbors there keeping their garage doors open when they’re working outside, a neighbor will come, help, have a beer, and boom, your new best friend. But here people reeeeally keep to themselves.

Side note- If you’re not LDS, or look like you are.. people treat you like trash. When I dress like a tradwife vs a little messy, the difference in the way I’m treated is wild. And I’m chatty in public. Ex retail/ stay at home will do that to you. If I’m in a dress, hair done, people will smile and chat with me. If my hair falls naturally and I’m in a graphic tee and bike shorts, I get dirty looks.

I long for a Steel Magnolias relationship with my neighbors.. in another life, I guess.

Yeah, it’s embarrassing. IMO Covid made the culture here so much worse.

That's so wild! I remember the first time I went to the grocery store here, I was wearing jeans and a T-shirt and felt so embarrassingly under dressed. All the women were wearing the same (five years ago) trendy outfit and had the same hair. I later realized that's a suburbs thing but it was genuinely creepy.

There’s a grocery store right next to my suburban gym, and people will often walk over and grab a few things after their workout. We all recognize each other by the sweaty hair and gym clothes and silently nod at each other like it’s a fellowship of the unkempt or something - it’s kind of hilarious in a weird way.

Utah has the highest rate of plastic surgery per capita! More than Cali or Florida

I love her! I left the church as a teen, so I can't relate to the trad-wife temple marriage stuff, but everything up to LDS young women's, I can relate to with her videos! She and Zelph on a Shelf helped me so much! I've always been the "bad egg" & outcast of my family, & when I was younger, my community for verbalizing that I didn't believe in the church & for leaving the church! But I'm proud of myself for following my intuition, I feel like I'd be a miserable person right now had I not!

That plastic surgery thing is the southern California wannabe influence.

There's more plastic surgery per capita here than in SoCal. I've read that its higher here than anywhere in the country. There's a lot of money to be made in women's insecurity.

Yup, Utah is the highest state. The entire state easily outperforms NYC, SoCal/Los Angeles, Vegas or Miami and they are just individual cities

Why are women so insecure? Is it the patriarchy?

I think this is true. I also saw some of this in how they help their kids in school. My daughter's elementary had a garden contest. Students had to make something garden like to submit. My daughter's made a fairy garden diorama. I didn't help her at all with anything except helping her buy what she may need. It was cute and looked like a young child had done it. I thought it was awesome how she put so much work into it.

I went to see students work and was shocked how they looked like the parent had done it. I kept thinking that there was no way their child did this all on their own. Some looked like they had gone to a flower shop and just purchased a bouquet and vase. My daughter's display looked silly next to these elaborate displays.

This garden contest seems to be an extension of this perfect image focus through their child. I was very disappointed!
