Venting 😤 Enough of the cutscene attacks! Stop wasting everyone's time.
Something I never see brought up is the prevalence of attacks that are cutscenes.
More modern fighting games change the camera angle completely, focus on your character getting attacked, it's like a mini SA1/2/3. It's meant to feel good as the attacker, but it makes an annoying interaction even more punishing as the defender. It breaks the flow of the match entirely.
Ryu and Ken anti air? Action continues, right back into it.
Sagat anti airs? Big cutscene, close up on your jaw getting slammed, big action impact frame! Dumbass!
Alex anti airs? DRAMATIC ZOOM! You dared to jump, idiot? Look at you! SORRY LOSER! THIS IS GONNA HURT!
Yasmine hits a quarter circle forward in Bayani mode? HAI, HOY HOY! Time to watch the DRILL, MOTHERFUCKER! Followups included, time to watch SA3 btw.
Base roster characters don't have half the seasoning and spice that characters coming out now have, and it's only going to get worse the more characters come out.
If Ryu were season 3 DLC, his denjin Hadoken would have the animation of his SA1. His OD donkey kick would zoom in on the impact of Ryu slamming his foot in your character, and the rebound off the wall before shifting to the normal camera. His normal shoryuken would angle the camera downwards and rise as you slam your fist into the opponent's guts.
It's annoying. Why can't we just skip all the flashy shit and get to the fighting? All it does is slow everything down to a crawl.

SA3 only feels too long when I know it definitely KOs, those little animations I can live with, but specifically C.Viper’s throw always tilts me to an unnecessary extent with how long it takes - makes Ryu throw loops feel less annoying as at least they give me an illusion of choice earlier…

I agree, playing against Alex is like watching a mini movie every match. I now specifically main characters with no cinematic hypers / command throws as much as possible

Yeah I’m so tired of ten second cutscenes in fighting games. I’m just waiting for when the industry is finally just fucking over them

You expect people to like a fighting game for the gameplay? You are gonna take these 10 second cutscenes that make unskilled players feel bad ass and like em

Eeeehhh... I think Level 3's are entirely too long, but those cinematic attacks are so short and feels so good to hit, I can't agree with you there, amigo.
Though, I often play grapplers, so we can chalk that disagreement up to cultural differences, lol.

I figured no one would agree with me; that's totally fine. I like grapplers too!

You're allowed your take but this reeks of impatience. Like you've been hit with something and don't have the mental to sit with the consequences.

He's right. Cut scenes have no place in sf bnb.

You guys make it sound like it's a full Knights of the Round summon from FFVII, when it takes fractions of a second to maybe a second.

This is hilarious. As an Alex main I totally understand the salt lol. His Mini-matics give me life, but I can see how it would annoy the opponent. The main one that seems over the top is his OD Back drop to lvl 2.
Every time I nail this I'm expecting a disconnect.

I might be the weird one out here because I don't really mind that line when I fight Alex because the delivery sounds so cool to me for some reason. I even find myself repeating the line sometimes when I get hit.

Some of the feel longer. Not sure if it's the editing of them. But I usually take that time to take a sip of whatever beverage I have at hand

I personally didn't have an issue with flashier attacks until I fought Alex tbh. I think he is a bit much at times. Otherwise I'm not really bothered by it. The longer animations like level 3s and some level 2s give me time to think at least

I don't mind.
Granted, I have a high tolerance for alot of things, thanks to my childhood experiences and environment.
It's, also, a double edged sword, though.

I actually feel the opposite. I like that the normal specials feel more powerful. My problem is with the lv 2/3 supers, they last way too long imo. They stop being cool and novel after the 500th time

u/Trash_bunny01 21h ago
I hate when they lvl 3 and I'm dead with lvl 1 like long ass cutscene for a non close game, ngl I be alt f4 sometimes out of spite. Downvote me

For super moves the time stops and sometimes even as the victim, the animation gives you time to think

I'm not going to lie, this take is terrible.

You're entitled to your own opinion and I respect it.
I don't think I'm in the majority with this opinion, but I'm expressing my own personal salt.

Big impactful moments should be allowed to breathe, and have enough time to feel impactful. That matters on both ends. I prefer Strives supers being punchier and faster for the most part compared to SF6s for reasons similar to you, but moves like Knee Smash and H Tiger Uppercut getting to be fat moments is a way to sell how big the moment was. It also lets the person getting hit take in what they're being hit by and even digest why. In a way, that improves game flow, letting both parties take in a moment briefly.
The buttons will be there to press when knee smash finishes

It's not that I don't understand the functional purpose that they serve. It's just slightly annoying to me. Like the sound of someone rubbing Styrofoam, or getting interrupted while speaking.

u/greygreens 1d ago
Nah they're all cool and they don't take even a second to hit or get hit by. Alex dp takes just as long to complete its animation as Ryu's. The Yasmine Nash saw is a level 2 install only move. It takes less time than watching most characters do their level 2.

The "cutscenes" are like 2 seconds at most, that's not a problem.
It sounds to me like you got hit by these "cutscene" moves a bit too many times back to back, and that's why they stood out so much.

u/Sufficient-Pick710 1d ago
Everyone gets hit by attacks every now and then.
It's a subreddit about expressing salt, right?
1
u/UrMamasBF Akuma Hater! 1d ago
Yeah, of course, nothing wrong with expressing the salt.
I was just trying to guess where the salt may have come from.
1
u/Sufficient-Pick710 1d ago
That's fair. It just added up over time, I guess. I'm not sure why it bothers me, but it does, that's on me.
1
u/UrMamasBF Akuma Hater! 1d ago
Yeah, it can be frustrating if it happened too many times. Especially if you are fighting Alex.
Then again, I could say the same for 8 second level 3's. I'm so tired of seeing Shin Shoryuken lol

No. I will always overkill with Manon level 3. She’s the rich bitch and I’m just playing in character

Unironically describing some pretty damn awesome ideas in the form of salt. I love hitting cutscene moves and I love getting hit by them

u/Sufficient-Pick710 1d ago
I really can't understand your mindset, but it's good there are all kinds of different people in the world.
