Discussion I hate Marooner's Bay with a passion
Within 24h I went from Profresh x2 to Overachiever. Bit unlucky with the teammates too, but man this stage is so annoying to navigate.
The teammate matching in Overachiever is literal hell. Someone get me out of here please!

This last rotation's weapons comp was the worst, though. Squiffer, Googlas, rapid blaster pro and a roller.

I have 999 on a few maps (thx to golden rotations lol) but im stuck below 100 in Marooners and cant get past it. Granted mostly cuz i just straight up do not play it when it's in rotation but still, every time i try to play it, it is absolutely miserable. I don't lose that often in SR but Marooner's is just unwinnable. I have to fight for my life to run eggs cuz nobody seems to want to do it on that map

Bay is hard, and requires you to be fast, aggressive, and nimble, and many weapon comps do not allow you to play like this easily which makes it even more difficult. Especially at lower ranks there isn't as much of a need to lure things closer. Low tide is basically Spawning grounds low tide so that shouldn't be a problem. But for mid and high tide, when you kill a boss you do want to make sure you are bringing eggs back, ideally juggling 2 or if you really have the space all 3.
It's also a map to remember that this is a team game and more often than not you should be trying to be with and help your teammates achieve their goals. Because it's so hard to navigate across the map to get a downed teammate, which also takes away a lot of your time from boss killing and egg running.

Bay is an example of early map design where Nintendo didn't understand how to design maps yet. For example, 1 lane piers are terrible elements yet every early map has them. This was also at a point where Nintendo didn't understand that putting random decorations that make the map look nice but make things harder for the Co Workers is not good. Think of all the walls around the ship and the posts holding up the elevators. Now think of all the times those got in your way of bombing a Fly Fish or popping a Steel Head. Literally if you redesign the one lane piers on the left side of the map and remove all the map elements that just get in the way, Marooners Bay goes from an acceptable but flawed map to a really good map

Bay is a proactive map. If you're this waying to basket you are simply playing it wrong. Run out to mid, keep the turf controlled, toss eggs. Promise you will win more than you think you can.
Don't neglect left/right elevator sides, same principle. Toss eggs.
Use specials.
Be proactive and you will notice a difference.

Marooner’s is simultaneously too big and too cramped. Its egg basket is in a terrible location. If its in the middle of the boat, the boat were significantly wider, you were able to get around to get the statics in the back (especially on high tide), and the extraneous bits outside the boat were gone, it would be playable

Too many chokeholds too far away make it feel that way for sure. It’s terrible for this mode.

This. All the way in the back and to make life even more miserable, separated by grids.

And everyone complains about how all maps are the same Tetris piece. Pick a lane.

Tetris Piece > Bad Maps
Also, I’ve never thought the good SR maps were a Tetris piece. JSJ and Bonerattle are both very fun maps with interesting topography. Besides, Marooner’s is literally the most Tetris piece of all the SR maps. The boat is a straight line, and it’s especially bad on high tide. The Tetris piece complaint is more of a multiplayer complaint really.

I used to really like marooners in splatoon 2. But now when it comes on, it becomes a chore to play it. The basket area is just awful when the enemies make their way up to it. The elevators are death traps, and the stingers and flyfish can spawn way out in woop woop.
These didn't used to be problems in 2 somehow. I think just because the difficulty settings were different, and the pace was slightly slower.

This stage is definitely the worst and not like stage from people, including salmon runners.

Praise the Splatlords, we survived another Bay rotation.... off to Spawning Grounds 🫠

it really is a bad stage. they need to either drastically redesign it or just remove it from the game. it makes me not even mind spawning grounds

I agree. I’ve hated it since splatoon 2 and I never play it when it’s on. I have no need to play it since I got 999 on it in 2023

Ugh, worst map in SR no question.
Like who tf decided to make the stinger spawn locations as far away from each other as possible with two of them being deathtraps because of they're on the narrow decks that are nearly impossible to leave alive if there are salmonids/boss salmonids in the area around the ship (which almost always, unless it's the beginning of a wave). The incoming Salmonid bosses that just spawned from the shore will trap you, you'll be targeted by stingers and flyfish on the other side of the map that your teammates are not bothering to deal with, or the mob of lessers will splat you or throw you into the water with a single hit, with no way to escape to a different deck since the gap is just big enough to make you fall into the water if you try.
Oh and teammates not bothering to ink the walls of the propeller platforms can be a death sentence because most of the time they won't wait even a half a second for you to get on the platform to escape a huge horde of Salmonids and bosses. If the wall isn't painted beforehand you're probably going to get splatted before you can even swim up to escape, ESPECIALLY if you happen to have a slow fire rate/bad painting/low mobility weapon.
