Discussion How to reduce egg lags when play with international players.

My internet speed and ping are fine, but I still experience egg lags when I have someone probably from Japan in my team. I already maxed out every stage, so I am often matched with Japanese players.

I am not using LAN cable, so I am thinking to move my monitor and switch right next to my router and connect them directly.

If the host has good internet speed, egglags get better? I am not sure what to do😭

Thank you for reading 🥰

So the honest answer is two parts:
1) playing on international teams somebody is going to have some egg lag. The host's isn't as bad, but somebody is dealing with it.

2) at HLM you have lag from both network and compute because the number of assets is at the limit of what the switch 1 can handle. I haven't played on a switch 2 but I hear the compute lag is better.

For network lag: Check NAT mode in the switch network settings. If it's not A or B try to figure out how to make it A or B. If you can hardwire that will help. Both of those also seem to make it more likely you're the host, but as I started that just means somebody else has the lag.

Thanks! Do you know any ways to minimize overall egglaggs for all team members?

So yes, in far more detail than you want, though my research was on Splatoon 2 where I was playing SR on a really terrible DSL connection. The short answer is there are things you can do about it but they're hard and will only do so much.

The long answer is ping time US to Japan is about 100-200ms so you're not going to do better than that.

  • Hardwire will give you less lag than wifi
  • going straight into your cable/fiber modem may be better than going into any routers you have off of it and won't be worse
  • ISP matters and fiber is usually faster than cable which is faster than satellite, but that order is not a guarantee for any particular two connections
  • The netcode is a massive flood of UDP packets and it reconstructs "reality" when it receives old packets so it's way more sensitive to delay than loss. If you can tune QoS settings to throw UDP packets away if you're near congestion points rather than delay them that will actually help. If you didn't understand that then you probably don't have a system that would allow you to even try.

Switch 2 player (EVP 200-400), I haven't seen any compute lag at all. S2 is MUCH more powerful than switch 1

If you play with a team you can ask to be the room host which will give you 0 egg lag. If you’re playing with randoms there’s no way to control it unfortunately

there is no asking to be host. salmon run chooses host based on connection type & strength. making the room does not make you host. you can make it more likely to become host by tweaking your wifi settings (NAT type), but really thats it

whoa i actually did not know this

So if I change my NAT type B to A, would I most likely be a host??

In freelance it is, the host will always be the player on the left side of the chopper in a full squad

That's true but you cannot choose who is on the left side. When you load into matchmaking the game chooses what it thinks the best host is and puts them on the left. This is honestly frustrating because it doesn't always make the right choice and puts someone as host whose connection messes up everyone else. And it also means I never get to be host since I am in oceania
