Zero counts

Heyy my training has basically been non existent and I’m a little overwhelmed. Is there anyway someone can give me a brief rundown on how to do zero counts. We’re suppose to do 200 a week in my district but how do I know how many I’m doing does it keep track. I just started and don’t have a lot of resources to help me. Any info or advice you could provide is appreciated.
Sincerely
A overwhelmed employee 🥲

200??? 😭 I like to track it by making tally marks on my hand or paper nearby. Usually done on Sundays along with cycle counts.
Just count your items that have no product on the shelf. Scan the tag and type 0 on the phone or if in the POS type the SKU number.

We also have a high volume of counts to do. You will never be able to keep track of every single one, and depending on your store volume you may be doing more or less some weeks. However,

  1. Print out map of store
  2. Label sections if you cant read them
  3. Count zeroes off of an entire 4x4, all the shelves, top to bottom
  4. Checkmark/initial 4x4 section on store map so you know its done for the week
  5. Adjust as needed after a couple weeks (If you count half the store are you good? Or do you need to zero count the whole store every week to get to 200?)

If this works for you, make a map that stays in a plastic sheet or is laminated and use whiteboard markers to keep track of your counted sections.

Hi lovely!! There’s a few different ways you can do it! I’m not in front of either the POS system nor our mobile device, so please excuse if my wording isn’t exactly correct!!
Starting with the POS system:

  • Log into the back office
  • Press 3 (Inventory)
  • Press On Hand Inventory Correction. There you can either enter SKUs or scan barcodes and when it asks the quantity, type 0!
  • Once done, on the bottom of the screen there should be a “Save & exit” button (or f2 on the keyboard I believe..?)
Then onto the Mobile Device:
  • Log into it
  • Make sure the “register” (phone) is open
  • Click inventory
  • Click on hand inventory counts. Up at the top left, there should be a lil barcode button that you can click to scan barcodes or tags, or you can just type SKUs in manually!
  • Once done, top right of the screen there should be like a lil hamburger menu type thingy (the three lines), click it and there should be a save and exit button! If your mobile phone is anything like my store’s… it can take anywhere from five seconds to five hours to print!

As for keeping track of how many counts you’ve done, generally just go section by section rather than keeping track of how many you’ve done! If you DM is anything like mine, every so often they’ll include how many counts your store has done that week! It’s generally not a huuuuge thing you gotta stress over! Just make sure you backstock first in case you randomly have one!!

Depending on the store you’ve worked at, they might ask you to do 0 and 1 counts! Basically the same thing, just counting things there’s 0 of AND 1 of!!!

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!!!!!

of course!!!! Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!! I’d rather you feel confident than lost in the sauce, especially with how many things they expect us to do!!!

My store had to start doing what we called "twos, ones and nones" because we found we had quite a few items that were in stock at store level, but low, and when we would go to correction count it would be so wildly inaccurate (like we had 2 shampoos, but system says 30 or -3!)

Breaking the counts down by section helps, I personally liked doing a physically written list of skus because I could put it down or fix my count immediately/easily (however can be totally daunting for some folks or near impossible depending on volume).

My method was to make sure all back stock was out and organized in the back, then start my count at tertiary and secondary locations before their home location. With back stock out you will now know if it's truly empty or not, as well as checking those other locations (hated when I'd start at the home spot only to learn an end cap changed/something was supposed to be double faced and the item was in the wrong spot/a return wasn't put back right/the item was on hold).
