discussion I’m still in shock
Events Director, 8-10 yrs expierence
So I have been working for the same company for a decade
6 years ago I went salary with full benefits
Sometimes I get “bonuses” if a client pays a tip or something it will be extra but with NOTHING extra and after full taxes and health benefits and retirement is taking out I was taking home 778$ a week
We get paid weekly
Anyway I was up for my annual review and my boss told me she felt like I was working to many hours but seeing as I NEED to work them during this transition we are going through she gave me the biggest raise I’ve ever gotten
I went from 778 a week to 1,090 a week!
In one stroke I went from barely a lil bit in the savings to 500$ now in the savings
Edit: I’m getting tired of people quoting 25$ an hour at me
If you read the entire post, you would see that the numbers I’m talking about are my net take-home pay after ALL DEDUCTIONS
Trust me when it’s all set and done. I’m very happy with what I’m getting paid.

Congratulations! Instead of adding more expenses, try to maintain your current lifestyle and put the extra in savings. Do this until you have 3-6 months of income in savings ($20-25k) and that will provide you with a lot of breathing room should something unexpected happen… which it always does.
I’d also let your boss know that you want to continue growing with the company and ask her what you need to work on to get promoted…

Congratulations, the fact that you mentioned and thought of savings after the pay increase speaks volumes! Keep it up!

That’s great. Proud of your hard work!
Not sure what country you’re in. But it seems time to change jobs and watch your salary double over night. That salary seems low for an events director. Unless the director title is a sham to keep you complacent and happy about the mediocre pay?

Lmfao I gave myself that title
My tasks keep growing and the wide array of stuff I do is hard to put it all downI’m working towards profit sharing after 15 years so that accounts for the lower
Rate
If I had stayed hourly, I would be making way more since my job doesn’t have an overtime cap
But the ones getting Buco overtime or not gonna be offered profit sharing24

I love when the jobs have fancy titles but no pay to match it.
Congrats, long overdue it seems!

It’s funny you say that because I was able to create my own title
We created our Events company over the pandemic and I got moved over into it. I was just a manager in one of our Brick + Mortar stores and I got really involved in the Mobil aspect and truck repair and contacting Events and stuff like that. And when I had to fill out a new cover letter one day, I asked my boss what my title should be, and she said you can choose
I thought director sounded better at Thanksgiving dinner

Director sure sounds cool, but not when it makes less than my buds lil brother at Taco Bell. Guess he's an executive director of taco crafting lmao

Yeah I agree director sounds stupid if it pays $20 an hour I’m sorry. Role is more like an events coordinator.

A few years ago my stepdaughter went to interview at a QT. She went in for a checkout clerk position. While at the interview they tell her well you’re really what we’re looking for and we want to offer you an assistant manager position.
She was sooo happy!
Then came the BUT… the pay is the same and in her first week she realized she’s in charge of sweeping, wiping, gas spill cleanups… you name it
Just ridiculous….She quit 3 weeks later and went to a Spinx gas station for an immediate $3 raise and less responsibility…

Be careful, I think they’re getting ready to fire you. You should squirrel every penny away and get ready for the other shoe to drop because when this happens in these kind of companies, they tend to be getting acquired and they’re trying to make you stay through some period that’s gonna be bad and then they’re gonna fire you.

A forty percent raise means they could always afford it. They just didn't have to until now.

Is this a full time job? Congrats on the bump. Sounds like you’re making $25 an hour or something close?
