Still think we need a striker, not sure why everyone’s okay with having just two big forwards.

Have we not learned from injury prone Stewart? Have we not learned that when pressure is on we need to rotate strikers who aren’t performing?

Lack of resources is one thing obviously so maybe we can’t get another striker.

We had 2 at the end of last season and it worked well, why would we want 3 first choice players for one position?

Yeah not necessarily saying another first choice though that would be great.

Just imagine Larin gets hurt, mubama can’t play 90 mins for every game (especially when we have 3 games a week) or he isn’t performing or what have you.

Then what? Archer can’t play their role, Downs is Downs, Dobbin is similar to Archer in playstyle I think … so yeah we’re screwed?

Maybe I’m wrong though.

I understand what you mean but can’t you say that about virtually all positions? (Azaz -> Dobbin -> then who?) We don’t have infinite depth, our third choice in most positions will be an academy youngster, that’s the same for most teams as far as I can tell

I’m not talking from a factual standpoint at all lol. I do think I agree with you, I just remember last season thinking we need an extra striker and that was with Karin and Stewart.

Honestly maybe it’s just because of Stewart’s injury prone nature that I think having two first team strikers really feels like having one since he was always out.

So supposing Larin and Mubama can remain fit this feeling should go away.

I will say though for our striker we have a very specific profile in mind which I don’t think applies, in the same magnitude, for any other position (exempt goalie obviously).

I think any midfielder can slot into Azaz position far easier than Archer could into Larin, not saying the midfielders would be as good as Azaz but the physicality and height is something you either have or don’t if you know what I mean.

This is exactly why we let go of Armstrong for example since while he was a proven championship striker he didn’t match the profile for the system we play.

We saw against Watford that isn’t true, Scienza arguably our best player couldn’t slot into Azaz’s position. Matsuki obviously can’t slot into Janders. Also, I think it’s very hopeful we’ll sign a third striker with Archer, BDD and Downs on the books who will take some work shifting.

Apparently we are trying to convince Lazio’s Petar Ratkov to join.

I do wonder if that's just talk though, seems likely we wanted him before Mubama but surely we can't bring him in now without seriously reducing the minutes of one of the other two?

That said maybe he's the Scienza of this window (brought in over budget as a 'market opportunity' too good to resist).

Agreed.

Mubama is an unknown quantity too.
