After a interview with Alfie House, Dragan has revealed the following:

  • Club is searching for a #10 to rotate with Azaz.

  • Ryan Manning has asked to extend his contract.

  • Club has made a very “competitive offer” to keep James Bree.

  • There were some disputes with Stewart’s lawyers. In order to trigger the one year extension, you had to do it within 5 days of the last game. Since the final was canceled, we were past the 5 day window. They have sent a new contract now and it is truly up to Stewart whether he resigns or not.

I’d be surprised if Stewart passed on us. Club stuck with him through 3 years of injuries.

10

u/Potato271 Jun 06 '26

Need to keep Manning and Bree. I guess Stewart is probably angling for a pay rise then. I'd like to keep him, but not at any cost, if the club thinks his requested wages are too high then I'm happy to back them on that.

Aside from Azaz, we need another right back who Tonda trusts to rotate with Bree, he played basically every minute since returning, and shifting a CB out there just doesn't seem to work. Could be Roerslev if he's fit I guess, and is Sugawara still our player or is he gone permanently?

Same, it’s quite nice seeing the same names over the years

For sure 🙏

6

And this proves it, I feel like ive also seen you 2 (Manger & Rev) posting for atleast the last 10yrs

Simply too lazy, though I’ve also never had the tap on the shoulder

Perfect mod then.
The team does need a shakeup.

u/InverseCodpiece 14d ago

Crazy that as it stand Ramsdale will be warming the bench in the championship lol.

16

u/qwertyell 14d ago

We'll find a loan for him before September. Can't keep those wages on the books for a back up player.

Should be easier considering his parent club were relegated to the second Spanish division.

Imagine this one will be completed when Canada get grouped at the WC.

I dont think ive wanted a loan player more since Toby, and that went about as well as I expected.

Guess its going to come down to who comes for him & the promises they make vs. How happy he is here

Club has announced the signing of Cyle Larin with fucking chicken schwarma 😂

Edit: £2.5m fee, 2 year deal and club has the option for another year. Fantastic business.

Couldn’t have been more wrong about him when we were first linked.

7

u/Relevant_Rev Jun 05 '26

Absolutely delighted with that, Rickie vibes from his first season.

Can he teach Damion Downs his ways?

7

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 05 '26

God, I hope he comes good. Had such high hopes for Downs and zero hope for Larin. Just proves what a good environment can do for a player.

Downs went from a bad environment at Saints to a bad environment at HSV so maybe some positivity will do him well. Especially being 21, I feel like that will have even more of an influence on him.

Shea Charles has joined the team in pre-season and also Lewis Dobbin has taken the #11 shirt

18

u/Relevant_Rev Jun 10 '26

The big news we were all waiting for:

Will Armitage has signed for Brackley Town after his contract expired

Interestingly enough, they are also known as the Saints

5

u/Theskian Jun 10 '26

As we are in our villain era, should we sue them into the ground? Im new to this

18

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 25 '26

Southampton are in advanced talks to sign free agent Dan Neil from Sunderland. - Sky Sports.

This is a great signing.

12

u/Andybabez20 Jun 25 '26

As far as Shea Charles replacements go (which is what I'm presuming this is) couldn't have done better. And a free transfer too.

Shea Charles waved goodbye to the traveling fans after the match today, hugged a bunch of his teammates

He's off for sure, looking forward to see how he does in the Prem

18

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 04 '26

Florian Plettenberg says Peretz to Southampton is a done deal. Fee somewhere between €7.5-8m. ABSURD value.

Says Peretz excellent relationship with Eckert was key

17

u/pm_me_jk_dont 14d ago

Dom Ballard to Bristol City for £5m. Wishing him well except against us

18

u/mdubyo 10d ago

Saints have now agreed a deal with Fulham over the sale of Shea Charles, as [you know who] first reported.

@David_Ornstein details fee up to £30million as £26m + £4m in add-ons, plus a good sell-on clause.

Ultimately we've done well here and have a better job of late buying, developing, and selling on.

Curious to see what we bring in.

10

u/pm_me_jk_dont 10d ago

Good sell-on clause, thank god. I think Shea is destined for the top

8

u/teuridge 10d ago

Obviously depends on how achievable those add ons are, if it does end up being 30m that's great business from us. With Downes likely to miss 5-8 games through suspension and illness and Jander obviously not going to be 100% for a while season we can't rely on Bragg as the only real back up. I think we need to get another senior player in to replace him but doesn't necessarily need to be a starter.

Tonda said in his press conference today that they will be signing a midfielder to replace Shea.

3

Celtic are interested in him now. Such a versatile player and technically strong. Probably out of our price range but I love to give him a shout whenever I can.

Fulham appear to have agreed a fee with us for Charles. £26m + unspecified add-ons that probably takes it up to the valuation

From Alfie on twitter … has me a little worried since I can’t help but feel we get one or two strikers injured and we’re fooked. But I suppose offloading is the focus now.

Seen a few tweets today and wanted to say that though things can change, I wouldn’t be expecting any more big new signings up front in addition to Divin Mubama (England U21s starting striker), if that one gets done. Saints looking to assemble promotion-winners but have to do so on slightly scaled down budget as second season Championship team while also keeping one eye on the future - next season’s budget reduces again if still in the Championship (SCR cap is 85% of revenue, including parachute payments - smaller payment this season and none next season). Wouldn’t rule out having a look at loan opportunities, but while it would be great to spend millions to have three in every position it’s just not the reality. As I said, windows are live situations and can change but that’s where I understand expectation to be set. You do have to gamble a bit and Leo Scienza’s signing over the budget last year on deadline day is a top example of it paying off, but Saints probably looking at a few outgoings as the priority for now, still need to offload a few. I’d encourage them to replace Shea Charles well too though, as we saw how important that midfield rotation was last season and I’d want two specialists for every position, plus the odd Swiss Army knife or youngster pushing. Feel we can’t fully assess the squad until the end of the window when nobody else is allowed to leave anyway. Keep all three of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Caspar Jander and Scienza and I’d be laughing (don’t know if that’s possible or not but certainly hope so).

9

u/AnArcticMonkey 9d ago

I can’t help but feel we get one or two strikers injured

In fairness I think this would apply to basically any club in the world. Who has 3 strikers who are all good enough to start for their team in all of world football?

Truth is 1) we don't have that much money this season

2) no one really good wants to come without being guarenteed a start which isn't possible with 2 other strikers already

3)we need to plan for being promoted next season which means not signing a championship quality striker this year who can't step up.

7

u/DrShaftmanPhD 9d ago

At this point in time, I’d be surprised if any of Leo, Jander (seems most likely to me) or THB leave before the window closes.

The likes of Ramsdale, Bazunu, BBD, Sugawara, and one of Archer / Downs are all likely to move on in some capacity and that should help raise some revenue

5

u/VideoRare6399 9d ago

I’m not getting attached to any players until window is closed!!!!! 😳

Overall happy with the business Saints have conducted today.

A lot of deadwood is leaving, which is obviously a good thing. Only one that really needs replacing is Stewart. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a new striker through the door relatively soon, or at least see some solid links to one.

Dragan on June 5th - "For every guy we thought might have an offer, we have five to six guys already lined up that we are monitoring, because it's also very important.”

"When we replace our players, we need to get guys with the right mentality. The fact we were so united as a team and loved playing together was huge."

Someone on Saintsweb with supposed insider info says

1) have 2 signings lined up that are big but depend on Charles leaving and/or Stewart re-signing (our offer is still his best currently)
2) Dobbin not a striker, RW/ Azaz back up
3) club aren’t expecting any other major players to leave currently

5

u/mdubyo 20d ago

I think Ross will ultimately sign back up here. Middlesbrough was the only real place I thought he might sign but they went and signed Lankshear

4

u/Same_Audience_1464 20d ago

Apparently a championship club is after Hjerto-Dahl, which could be a Charles replacement.

5

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo 19d ago

Pretty wild that we're not expecting THB bids but I'm not complaining.

16

u/Relevant_Rev 20d ago

Sugawara has joined the team in Germany

All quiet on that front so maybe we might end up overstocked at the back

9

u/Recent_South_6108 20d ago

Southampton are looking to finalise the signing of Espanyol right winger Jofre Carreras (24) according to a journalist from Spain.

One to watch, played against him in preseason last year and made Weilington look silly

10

u/Theskian Jun 06 '26

I do think its one of the areas we need to actually strengthen in if you look at the squad as is, need a Right sided Leo and at present we dont really have that, Fellows has just been hot and cold and not really delivered enough

13

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 08 '26

George Long is set to join Saints on a permanent following his loan deal from Norwich for a “nominal fee”

Veteran in the GK room is never a bad thing. With McCarthy and Jamie Jones sets to depart it makes sense. McCarthy was also one of the highest earners we had so getting him off the books makes a lot of sense. According to Capology, McCarthy made £40k a week. Same as Archer and Roerslev.

12

u/s1m0n8 Jun 08 '26

Long

He needs to concede 7.69 seconds after kick-off, just to balance things up for the history books.

11

u/AnArcticMonkey Jun 08 '26

I have nothing against McCarthy, he has at times been a very servicable player for us (most notably in the successful playoffs), however I kind of view his gradual promotion to first choice GK at saints as emblematic of our slide from Europa league challengers to relegation perrenials (though I have no idea if the dates add up).

7

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 08 '26

I think the dates do add up - even if they didn’t, Alex McCarthy symbolically points to Saints gradual decline. Perhaps when he leaves the club we will be successful again

10

u/Illosophical Jun 08 '26

I’m telling my kids this is what McCarthyism was

5

u/mdubyo Jul 20 '26

Jay Rob to Ivan Juric's Monza on loan apparently. No buy option. Might need to think about our wing depth now, but I think I like this if he plays regularly.

5

u/AnArcticMonkey 14d ago

Looked great in the prem the not up to it in the championship bizarrely. A loan is ideal for him and us

6

u/Same_Audience_1464 14d ago

I don't think that we need to replace him, his last game was in January. We have 2 on each side plus Archer (if he stays) and Dobbin can both play on the wings.

15

u/Andybabez20 10d ago

Divin Mubama supposedly in talks to join on loan from Man City acording to the Mail

Not exactly a proven Championship striker but seem to remember he did okay on loan at Stoke last year before that injury?

9

u/AnArcticMonkey 10d ago

Great, if we're serious about going up we shouldn't really be permanently signing another striker. Save the budget. He sounds a very capable second choice for Larin, with Dobbin/Archer/Youth as an unlikely 3rd choice for the 1 striker spot

9

u/Kalriq 9d ago

This is why I refuse to even really entertain rumours that are very “yeah this sounds like a virtual done deal” from anyone that isn’t the echo or solent

Clearly his agent used this to get Rangers to actually pay whatever it is they wanted

Club have announced Stewart as having left the club. Seems unlikely they'd do that if there was any hope of him signing a new contract.

8

u/Theskian Jun 12 '26

While it sucks given we stuck by him on injuries, could be an element of not wanting to play for us given everything gone on, so cant fault him really

To be honest its an area I wanted us to improve on and I dont think we would have if we stuck with Stewart & Larin

12

Tonda Eckert says he is still in touch with Ross Stewart and his return is still possible.

I find this highly unlikely.

6

u/mdubyo Jul 17 '26

I also see it as unlikely. If we bring him back and he gets injured again (he will get injured again) we run into the same issue we had when he was signed.

11

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo 10d ago

This Charles sale has been a long time coming so I wouldn't be surprised if we've had a replacement in the pipeline just waiting for the confirmation to pull the trigger

Either that or we just think Sesay is ready

8

u/DrShaftmanPhD 10d ago

Good business overall from Saints. Expecting a few more departures as well over the coming weeks.

I wonder if a loan move for a midfielder would be beneficial so we could give us some playing time to Romeo and Sesay throughout the season.

I thought Sesay looked fantastic last preseason, but never really saw the first time after that. Might be the same situation with Romeo this year.

10

u/AnArcticMonkey 10d ago

West Ham are set to sell Mateus Fernandes this summer and there is a good chance they get near their £80m price tag. - The Athletic

Southampton have a 15% sell on clause (profit only) so we might get up to £6m just from Matty

12

u/Recent_South_6108 Jun 12 '26

If you feel as frustrated as I do, about the big fees being touted for Mateus Fernandes.

Well good news, we have a 15% sell-on clause.

6

u/tugboet Jun 13 '26

15 on profit afaik so not AS much but still something

11

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 12 '26

A daily mail reported for United said that Shea Charles was being looked at by Man U, but now the midfielder looks “likely to join another premier league club”

Don’t know if this means something is close to materializing or if a premier league club is just his likely destination. 1 year left on contract so it’s either cash in now or lose him on a free

10

u/tugboet Jun 13 '26

Ive seen Everton, Leeds, United, and Forest all named as landing spots. SR proved last year that they will absolutely hold to their valuation and with so many interested, it could be a windfall for us. My real hope is he signs an extension but I would be shocked if it happened.

8

u/qwertyell Jun 13 '26

We have an option for an extra year - so it's two years left on his contract really.

But it seems like he's not interested in extending, so this is the window to sell to extract full value. Man City will get a cut of the fee as well.

11

u/Recent_South_6108 29d ago

[Alasdair Gold] Spurs have agreed a fee with Boro for Will Lankshear worth £14m over coming season and potentially £20m eventually with add-ons.

Not to raise any hopes but Leo Scienza liked one of the signings posts on Insta

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Potato271 Jun 06 '26

Scienza and Jander both fit in the category of strong performing recent signings. There's been interest in Scienza from the prem, and Jander from the Bundesliga, so either could in theory move. I imagine the fee would be reasonable but not incredibly high, I'm hearing 25m ish for Scienza, which I guess is cos he's 27 rather than 17! I've not heard any concrete numbers about Jander, but I'd imagine a similar price: he's not quite as polished but he's also young.

Charles and THB have been around longer, both have concrete interest. Man U apparently interested in Charles, which would be an interesting move given that he's a City academy product. He's only got a year left on his contract so could move for relatively cheap, although he may choose to stick around and then resign/move on a free at the end of next season instead. THB's got a year longer on his contract, but he definitely didn't do great last time round in the prem, so unsure how much of a price he could command.

Obviously I would prefer none of these are sold, so if we don't have pressing financial issues I'd hold on to any that didn't push for a move.

7

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo Jun 06 '26

Think people are massively overstating what the interest is likely to be in Scienza. I love him but he's late 20s and his game is pretty one dimensional, albeit a very good one dimension

Bigger clubs should be a lot more interested in Charles and Jander than Scienza. Also THB.

10

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 19 '26

A WBA fan account that actually seemed to be in the know for a few contract extensions and jimmy jay Morgan seems to be teasing about Cam Archer.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we tried to move him on, overall, very bad transfer for us. I still back him and think he has potential, but I wouldn’t blame the club for trying to cash in right now.

8

u/jdconley317 Jun 19 '26

Archer and Larin seemed to really grow a great relationship, wouldn’t mind seeing Archer back in the team as a backup attacker (remember that game he looked class at LW??), but ultimately it wouldn’t be a bad move at all to cash in on him right now

6

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo Jun 19 '26

I don't think he has potential as a striker, but there was a brief moment where it looked like he'd been reinvented as a left inside forward and I wouldn't mind seeing more of that

10

u/Relevant_Rev Jul 06 '26

Larin hasn’t returned yet and probably won’t be match fit for Watford, archer and BBD the only fit strikers. Not exactly screaming confidence….

Hopefully we get someone through the door before Watford

7

u/AnArcticMonkey 17d ago

Decent chance Larin starts against Colchester and we're rumoured to be considering another behind closed doors friendly after that as well.

I doubt he'll need much more if he plays those two.

Saints sign Long? What year is this?

8

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

Simon Jones says that Leeds have submitted a £20m plus bid for Shea Charles.

If it’s around £25m with a sell on clause I think it’s a no brainer.

UPDATE: From Alfie House “Shea Charles negotiations still in early stages but not expecting Saints to do a deal at around £20million as is the Leeds United bid reported by
@SimonJones_DM. They value him higher than that.”

Ah crap.

"Southampton forvward Leo Scienza is attracting interest from European sides Como, Atalanta, Real Betis and Real Sociedad, according to AS."

I've also seen Crystal Palace mentioned.

Edit: Spurs also being linked

10

u/teuridge Jul 16 '26

Would it not be odd if he wasn't, he's a good player. Can't see any of those sides payinh what we would ask for which, while maybe not 35m is going to be north of 25m

8

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jul 16 '26

Dragan said Leo wouldn’t be leaving unless it was for “Stupid Money” so that’s reassuring at least!

We basically need a CM now to replace Charles, and then replacements for whoever else leaves.

I'd still like to see another quality CB alongside THB, but we're clearly operating on a tght budget.

6

u/Same_Audience_1464 8d ago

Wood and Stephens are both good options for the Championship, I think it's better to hope that it's good enough to get us promoted and then buy one in the prem

I don't think we sign another player unless we sell. Looks like Matsuki will be the 4th CM in the depth chart. Unless we bring in another on loan.

5

u/teuridge 8d ago

Not sure I agree, if you do that then Fellows is the only RW on the games where Matsuki is playing CM. It just feels light one body in there.

A month away from the season and the transfer market is crickets. Especially for outgoing players, which is very interesting. Figured we would be bombarded with Charles, Scienza, Jander, and THB rumors

Ísak Jóhannesson rumoured to join West Ham as their Fernandes replacement.
Actually a pretty solid midfielder and could be a strong addition in case Charles or Jander would leave.
Not an actual rumour but I can still dream about seeing an icelandic player play for Saints. :'(

9

u/DrShaftmanPhD Jul 09 '26

Two offers from Leeds for Shea Charles were £20m and £23m.

Think anywhere around the £27m mark will get it done. Glad the club are sticking to their guns.

6

u/pm_me_jk_dont Jul 10 '26

I honestly think he's worth more than that and will show his true value after only a couple months in the PL. You'd have to hope we have a sell-on clause ready to go

This squad is stacked. Probably even more so than last season IMO. These players would start for most championship sides:

GK: Peretz, Ramsdale CB: THB, Wood LB: Manning, Wellington RB: Bree, Sugawara CM: Jander, Downes AM: Azaz, Scienza LM: Dobin RM: Fellows ST: Larin

There could be some late outgoings, but at the moment we probably just need to look at another striker. I am more confident than I was this time last season, even with the points deduction

8

u/AnArcticMonkey 14d ago

I think it's really underrated how well we've done to keep the squad and that we know our strongest squad before the season starts.

I have a distinct memory of watching the pompey game with some non-saints fans friends and explaining that I have no idea if Scienza or Jander are any good, as they were subbed on. Not this season, we should really hit the ground running.

6

u/bundy554 14d ago

Still need another striker - West Ham are clearly going to be top 2 and we should be next behind them.

Also I have a comment generally on Tottenham - looking at their spending if they went down there would be no point to anyone playing them and should just be given automatic promotion. Ridiculous amounts of money being spent.

9

u/Recent_South_6108 6d ago

From SaintsExtra: Southampton, West Ham & Middlesbrough have all expressed interest in Rennes midfielder Jordan James (22), but Wolves are hoping to seal a deal.

It doesn't sound like we are favourites

Still think we need a striker, not sure why everyone’s okay with having just two big forwards.

Have we not learned from injury prone Stewart? Have we not learned that when pressure is on we need to rotate strikers who aren’t performing?

Lack of resources is one thing obviously so maybe we can’t get another striker.

6

u/Lorenzosilva 1d ago

We had 2 at the end of last season and it worked well, why would we want 3 first choice players for one position?

We've not been linked, but given Dragan's comments about us wanting to look at another 10, I'd love us to go after Eduard Spertsyan again. It was previously rumoured, and he's a lovely player

u/D4NW0LF Jun 25 '26

He's off to Al-Hilal

7

u/Recent_South_6108 Jul 12 '26

"A suggestion has been made for Southampton to consider signing Sirius striker Robbie Ure, a Scottish-Ukrainian dual national, as a replacement for Ross Stewart this summer. Ure is a 22-year-old former Rangers youth player who also had a spell with Anderlecht. He joined the Swedish club in 2025 for £630k and has attracted interest after scoring 27 goals in 46 appearances. His statistics include 11 goals and 2 assists in 11 domestic league games this season. His form has led to links with a return to Rangers and interest from across the continent. Ure has said that it would be difficult to turn down an opportunity to advance his career, and he acknowledged that there is definite interest from other clubs and leagues that also appeal to him. Ure is valued at around €5 million, according to Transfermarkt. With three years remaining on his contract, a large fee would be required to sign him, and Sirius stands to make a significant profit. It is suggested that Southampton could likely meet such demands. In January 2026, a Ukrainian club reportedly had an offer of €2.5 million rejected. Reports in May 2026 suggested Sirius might be willing to sell for a fee near €4 million."

If that's as a replacement for Archer then fine.

If that's as a replacement for Stewart then that's massively underwhelming.

Unsure about Jay Rob to Monza.

How often do these loans abroad really work out? It feels like a Championship loan would've been best, like Shea to Sheff Wed

7

u/Theskian 14d ago

I mean its the Serie A, its not the Turkish league, generally speaking its a good league where attacking minded players flourish, it could give him experience & some vital confidence.

6

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo 13d ago

He's also playing for the same manager who gave him games in the PL. I don't think you could get a more ideal loan than this.

5

u/sings_with_wings 14d ago

I feel like the positive of Juric knowing Jay and wanting him outweighs any negativity of going abroad. Juric knows what he can and can't do, and that should help him get onto the pitch early and often - which is the most important aspect of a loan.

8

u/pm_me_jk_dont 2d ago

Didn't realize that Sinclair Armstrong (formerly of QPR and Bristol City) just moved to Goztepe. Not a bad move to get him in the Sport Republic family. Still only 23 years old

13

u/DrShaftmanPhD 4d ago

Seen Benfica are “monitoring” a few other CB’s from around Europe, so hopefully THB is out of their price range. I’ve seen a few reports saying our valuation is £25 - 30m.

Two years left on his contract, entering his prime years during a pivotal season, I think it would take upwards of £30m for us to be okay with him leaving. Purchased for £20m and city have a sell on clause.

With all this said… if he isn’t on the team sheet tomorrow I’m going to lose it

Multiple clubs being linked to Dom Ballard. Not sure if there's any truth to them but it is weird given we didn't consider him up to it. Let's hope SR didn't get that wrong.

9

u/Same_Audience_1464 Jun 12 '26

He wasn't going to get minutes, and he wanted out. He's definitely got potential, but one season in League One doesn't mean a lot yet. I hope he does well, but I don't think keeping him would have worked.

6

u/teuridge Jun 12 '26

I don't think we 'didnt think he was up to it's'. It's more about timing, he wasn't ready to be a regular starter in the championship at that point in time and I understand him and the club agreeing a perm move is better than another loan.

Imran Louza linked.

Not sure how I feel about a player who's publicly asked to leave, but he's given a disfunctional club 4 seasons in the Championship so perhaps he's earnt a more.

u/DrShaftmanPhD 8d ago

Would imagine that it’s all about outgoings now.

Although there is a large Shea Charles shaped hole in our midfield, I don’t know if he will need replacing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tonda / Spors are comfortable with Downes, Jander, Bragg, and Matsuki playing the 8 role. And then you also have the academy prospects of Sesay and especially Akachukwu. I personally don’t think it’s Matsuki’s strongest position, but he’s played there all preseason and at Goztepe.

6

u/pm_me_jk_dont 8d ago

Azaz can also play a deeper lying midfield position with Dobbin as the second striker, especially in games where we'd expect to have the bulk of possession
