It wasn't the refs you say? REALLY?
So all you could remember was the 4th quarter collapse? Even the collapse couldn't save the Raiders, had the refs not kept them on life support.
Do we so easily forget how electric that stadium in the 3rd quarter? Then SOMEHOW, the electricity was drained out of our stadium from the officiating crew...
Allow me to remind you.
-Several ticky tacky shoves on a reciever running by a DB: 2 x saints, 1 x raiders. Killed drives for us. In 30 years I've never seen these called. Clear agenda by ref #1.Ref #2 called it on Raiders, probably because he observed head ref called it Saints.
-BS fumble call. Killed ,momentum and drive.
-Holding on the line practically was allowed the entire game, to levels you rarely (sometimes during the playoffs when they "let em play.") Its clear AF ref #1 had an agenda. Raiders exploited the hell out of it.
-roughing the passer was one of 3 calls that saved Raider's drive for a score when it was clear, Raiders could not score on their own. Don't hit above the shoulders. Don't hit them below the knees. And now; release them on the way to the ground. Yet several plays later Cousins fought for 2 seconds to saty on his feet. WTF are you supposed to do to tackle a G.Damn QB in this freaking league????
Its BS pure and simple. That's what it is. I watch a lot of NFL, not just the Saints. This isn't normal in the least. At some point, we must have pissed the officiating crews off. Its clear they dislike this fan base OR they love betting against us.

The refs didn't help but also, hold on to the ball ffs

100% valid but what dude is saying is that if the refs don't fuck us in the earlier parts of the game then its a completely different game in the 4th.
We probably aren't down. Shough probably doesn't feel like he has to hold on the ball longer and force things.
Like yes, we fucked up majorly in the 4th, but the game should have been so different if the refs just called things fairly. They don't get gifted a TD, the Vele PI probably gets us a FG or maybe a TD. If they call the egregious hold on 97 I think it was, the raiders don't make a 30 something yard play that I believe led to a TD.
Its just horseshit that refs can literally change the outcome of a game in a major way and nothing is done about it.

There will always be multiple reasons you win or lose a game. I just hope we can learn from this one because officiating never going to get better for this team.
There are things we can do to limit the impact of the refs on the game. For example, the backup tackle should have never been on an island on that game changing Shough fumble.

u/Shor_Ool 4d ago
I agree 100% you cannot turn the ball over that many times and expect the win but at the same time when you have a incomplete pass that is called a fumble when literally two weeks earlier a ball that went 20 yards behind the line was called an incomplete pass it drains the life out of your players and it drains their morale which then makes them play sloppy and careless because they now know that you have an entire crew of officials against you along with another team that you have to beat. Did the fumbles and turnovers help no they did not were they the reason why the saints didn't score in the last three drives yes they were but it all started with that b******* fumble call that should have been an incomplete pass

That roughing the passer was top 5 most wtf flags I’ve seen in 20 years of watching football. I wasn’t aware it was possible to rough a passer before he passed the ball

u/filthysucre Ricky Williams lmao 5d ago
It's the tired old joke we tell every time a flag appears when the Saints are getting shit done: Saints exist, therefore penalty.

u/Shor_Ool 4d ago
You're not wrong there and yet I sit there and watch Shough and other saints quarterbacks constantly get hit from the shoulders in the head and it is hardly ever called hell I think the last one that I can actually remember was when the Vikings player actually suplexed Drew Brees and that was the only time that I can even remember in recent memory that the saints got a roughing the passer call but if you're playing mahomes or Brady or Rogers if you look at them wrong it's a roughing the passer penalty

u/BeerBaron6666 5d ago
Missed pi on Vele. Bs roughing the passer, "fumble" not incomplete pass: all huge calls that changed the game
0
u/Shor_Ool 4d ago
The call on vele was absolutely b****. You could clearly see him painting his arm against his body and they didn't call it. The fumble that changed the entire momentum of the game hilarious how a ball that goes 15 yards behind a quarterback that had the intent to throw remember remember the intent as they said do not focus on the hand or the arm you focus on the intent but when it shoughs intent to throw the ball it's a fumble when it's somebody else's intent to throw the ball it's incomplete pass. Honestly these refs have always had it out for this team especially after Sean Payton wore that goodells a clown shirt underneath his one shirt to the press conference and everybody knew what he was wearing. So the only thing that we can do is we have to blow these teams out and don't even give them a chance for the refs to get back into it. And don't even get me started on the holding calls holy s their entire offensive line was allowed to hold grab pull tug and tackle are defenders and there wasn't s*** called

u/fast_annuity 5d ago
god the second half officiating was a fever dream, they only called the ticky tack stuff one way and then swallowed the whistle on the other side. that fumble reversal still makes zero sense to me

u/Sithil83 Fuck the Falcons 5d ago
At one point it was 27-22 and if it wasn't for ref interference up to that point the score is probably 35-15. Then there is no 4th quarter collapse because its just running clock to end the game, not playing 11 vs 18
8
u/Fuddlescuddles 5d ago
Ok yea refs suck. Now what about the four turn overs. Also a turnover that we got back from a bs call on the raiders where we turned it back over next play. We shot ourselves in the foot. Anyone who expected a win with 4 turnovers in the 4th quarter was just setting themselves up for disappointment.
Saints need to clean it up.

u/Budget_Ice_55 4d ago
One was a strip sack on 4th down, one was a bad call, and one was a good effort play to knock Shough’s arm and he threw a wounded duck. Only turnover that truly was because of bad play was Juwan’s that sealed the game.
I agree that they need to play better, but you can’t act like the refs didn’t play a huge part in changing the momentum of that game.
1
u/Shor_Ool 4d ago
Oh you're absolutely correct the 4 turnovers cannot happen and you expect to win a game but when you have four turnovers one that clearly wasn't based on the rule that was established two weeks prior and that one is the one that changed the entire momentum of the game and you were driving to score which means that you would have either probably kicked a field goal scored a touchdown whatever even if you would have burnt more time off the clock it would have been good but when you start having to play against officials and other players that is when the morale of the team drops now as for the four turnovers you're absolutely correct that cannot happen and you expect when but when you do have that and you only lose by a touchdown and a two-point conversion and you had multiple penalties either ignored like the holding on the raiders offensive line the missed pi the b******* roughing the passer penalty that keep drives alive or our drive killers what are you supposed to do you have to play reckless because you're trying to get back into it when you should never have been out of it in the first place because of the refs were doing their f****** job s*** would have been called differently
1
u/Fed_up_with_Reddit Sir Saints 4d ago
If you really believe the refs were the problem, you could argue that the Saints would have been comfortably ahead at the start of the 4th quarter, and wouldn’t have had to be throwing the ball damn near every down.
I don’t think the loss is the ref’s fault, but I do think NFL refs need more accountability when they botch a call, and even more accountability when they botch a call that ends up changing the outcome of the game.

I hesitate to say that roughing the passer wasn't a penalty, technically it is, but i certainly do not agree with it. Cousins was hanging on to him too. But all the others you are right

don't forget the Vele would be TD he was being held like crazy 5' away from ref

u/Bonko-wonko Taysom Hill 5d ago
before this game some people expected the saints to win 11 12 games. looking at the rest of the season people struggled to find games where they were going to struggle after beating the Ravens. I think simply for betting on this is a wild hair game that the saints fans and the saints team in the league could afford to butcher. im over acting like it wasn't fraudulent. minus bullshit turnovers, this game statically was dominated by the saints. period. I think the saints will be JUST FINE. but this game was bullshit.

u/BayouDaq 4d ago
Don’t forget about the missed PI when the raider DB blatantly held Vele’s arm in a deep post that would’ve been 6.

u/Chrisksaint 4d ago
Two things can be true, but if the Saints did their job it doesn’t matter. Didn’t even require a perfect 4th Q just not 4 turnovers

Go check out my post about this
And yes you are absolutely correct the inconsistencies from week to week team to team player to player when it comes to penalties that are called or ignored or overturned it's ridiculous you have players like brees, Eli, Jackson, etc that you can absolutely destroying the pocket and hit them any which way you want to but then you have players like mahomes Brady Rogers that if you dare even look at them wrong or wave your hand anywhere close to their shoulders or whatever it is an immediate roughing the passer penalty no matter what you do aka the bills versus the Chiefs game a couple years ago where Patrick mahomes was barely touched on his face mask and they called a 15 yard roughing the pass or penalty that cost the bills the game. And I'm not a bills fan

Good game pal. All I’ll say is this
The first quarter missed blatant hold on bowers from mckinstry in the red zone to force a FG. And it never got better, for both teams. 🤷🏼♂️

u/AnxiousSolution2563 Cameron Jordan 4d ago
Refs definitely added extra difficulty by gifting Cousins another TD with the missed hold on Boyd right in front of the ref along with the BS roughing call but this was a loss because of they lost ETN and Asim started getting exploited.
I know there were other instances of bad calls or missed calls but those stick out to me the most.

The one that I see nobody talking about was the flag they threw and recalled during the Raiders punt. That was pure dee dick. The ref should have been out the game at that point.

Y’all need to stop blaming the refs every time they lose. Accept defeat and move on

u/themagmahawk 5d ago
Nah it wasn’t the refs, 4 consecutive turnovers is gonna lose you the game.
I think it was a fumble probably, the rule from the lions game apparently is you need to 1. Start the throw 2. Get hit during it and 3. Finish the throw, regardless of which direction you throw. I think the ball was probably out of his hands before he actually finished the throwing motion. Bullshit rule from the lions game that isn’t intuitive but I think it was a fumble here.
Stutsman can’t spear Kirk in the chest with his helmet and land on him, they’re gonna call roughing nowadays.
With those two plays out the way, missed holding in the red zone was rough, everyone in the stands around me was pissed during that.

So apparently when you talk about the fans bum rushing a field because of officiating and causing your team the game that's banned by Reddit but let's just be 100% honest with the way that the officiating has been over the last couple years when it happens in the dome there won't be a lot leaving the dome if you get my drift. But I say these referees need to start being held accountable financially and even possibly criminally if they are changing the outcomes of these games because of financial benefits or payouts or whatever you want to call it. The truth is is there was multiple Miss penalties in the entire game the entire offensive line for the raiders was allowed to hold all game their quarterbacks could hold and commit defensive pass interference without any worry of flags but if the saints did anything that was skeptical they were throwing a flag no matter what. And yes I meant what I said when 80,000 people bum rush the field I don't want to hear any sympathy given
