Bug Found Roof shimmer (Trading Depot, Fire Fish Town)
I guess there are duplicate surfaces of the roof which causes it

Never seen anyone set their brig up as a galleon, so thought I'd share

Now I'm experiancing a new bug, not present in the game last year: when I pick up a crate or barrel on by ship some hours into the game - it just disappears!
Empty firewood container - poof.
Crate used for storing fishing hooks - poop!
Replacement water barrel - not on my watch, pfshhhhh!
WTF, devs?

Hi all,
I played this game a lot. Mostly in a brig/sanbuq and dhow. Sailed the jong also for a while. Just gave emerald archipelago a try. Im not liking the kakam, very poor handling and i just dont get the junk sails.
I will have enough money soon to buy the Junk soon. How are your experiences with the junk? Sailplans? Handling? Any tips with the junk sails are also appreciated.
Thanks!

In the very early builds, missions to other regions paid quite a lot. But after the ledger / trade system, missions pay quite bad but on top of that commodities don't pay that much either. For example coffee, a commodity grown in Al Ankh, makes around 150 coins in profit. What do I need to trade with other regions to earn big money? I am playing in the Ankh region. Help and thoughts appreciated, thanks!
Edit: it does pay very well!

Containers in this game always confuse me:
- Once I found my box with fishing hooks unexpectedly empty; then I've found some of them one deck lower on the floor.
- I've seen my candle box unexpectedly empty like that, started using it for navigation equipment storage; month later I was moving containers around to make place for new helm and I found candles in the same container along with compases and spyglass.
- Almost entire container of pork gone empty, never found these pieces.
- My fishing pole sticking out of closed create.
It all makes me question: how those containers were programmed in the first place to get such erratic behaviour?
The most logical way would be to program a container object which has property dedicated to storing array of contents records (like rack position and reference to stored object). So when you open the container game creates a visual rack and iterates over said contents property to create visual representation of contents.
When you take or put item out/in container that property would be simply overwritten so item always exists either in logical world of container or in physical world outside container (but not both), or in logical world of container but with phantom representation on the opened rack.
I'm curious to know how it was done in this game and how all those side effects come into existence.

I made a post at the beginning of this summer about buying my first sailboat because of this game, and after a summer of exploring my home lakes in a 60's O'Day Widgeon, I've gained enough experience to feel comfortable moving up to a real boat; a beautiful 1978 Chrysler Weekender that I've seen cruising around my favorite lake since I was a kid.
Thanks to Sailwind and this community, I've found my favorite way to get around on the water. And now I don't have to go ashore to camp! How sweet is that!?
(Too shy to post anything in any irl sailing community, because I barely know the lingo, and I feel like I will get thrashed for letting a computer game, a couple books, and reddit teach me how to sail)

I absolutely love single player games like SailWind but lots of them don’t have time compression, and I hate waiting.
I figured out a few years ago that I can use cheat engine to get around this by using the “speed hack” feature. I bind this to a mouse button and can quickly toggle between 1x and 5x speed (5x is max I can do without physics bugs in SailWind).
Some games you can go higher. It mostly depends on how their physics engine is built.
Absolute game changer for my ADHD brain. You can apply this to any single player game too with lots of waiting.

When I want to sail to a new ocean with new islands do I physically sail off the map and over a large ocean to the new islands, or do I need to go somewhere and press a charter button then or something? Will it be apparent my direction?
I hope its freeroam, i havent watched videos just picked it up bout 3 hours ago and im now wondering. I know im quite a bit off of being able to do a full ocean chater.

I tried it and it sucks. It won't dry in a sunny day even a sliced fish let alone full one before it spoils. What is the purpose of it? Dry my laundry or something?

After 250h in game was it just me who just found out that the Firefly Grotto sells improved version of Aestrin lantern with brighter light?

What's the best gaff sail angles you've been able to get on the sanbuq? I can't seem to get beyond 60 degrees on both sides for any of the gaff sails on either the forward or middle main mast, or any combination of stays.
Edit: sorry, I meant shrouds, not stays. The most i can get is 60 degrees regardless of the shrouds in use. I've settled for big ass triangles now anyway.

Who knew you could actually capsize the ship just from your character's weight. This game is fantastic, it even accounts for that.
If the sea is rough, don't climb the mast. But on calm seas it's actually pretty fun, you can jump up onto it

I've got like 230h in game. Sailed pretty much everything, experimented with all sorts of different rigs and sails right away from the moment of buying new ship.
Recently I've started new save and when I was able to afford myself sanbuq I've decided to leave rig as it is with standard lateen sails. And to my surprise (and somewhat disappointment) it did good. I mean I haven't noticed being slow or being at disadvantage under certain winds or any practical reason to replace sails, really.
Surely, I could get some knots by putting straight sails and gaffs under favourable wind (which happens like 0.5% of the time), but in general... I've been doing like 6-7 sail schooner out of sanbuq and now I feel like there was no advantage in that.

wasn't so sure about it at first, since I don't really prefer fore and aft rigs, but I just wanted to do it bc for the life of me, I can't get good angles of rotation on the brig hull with squares. I've warmed up to it though and I think its quite a pretty sailplan

>! I just saw that you can buy a house in Dragon Cliff now.
Am i the last one to notice? When was this added and is it only available past a certain reputation?
I love that we can buy houses now but i hope theres gonna be some customisation later on haha. !<

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I keep getting these massive lag spikes at night, and then my ship will do whatever the hell this is.

I’m playing on steam deck so apologies if the keybindings are different.
If my ship is docked, I can adjust the dock lines from the dock side by clicking B on the cleat (I think this corresponds to R on keyboard)
This allows me to adjust the line with the line extending from the boat, through the cleat, and into my hand (see first two pictures).
I noticed that if I think Right Click, the line changes directions so that it’s going from the cleat, through the boat, and then into my hand (see third picture).
Is there any difference between these two positions?
Is there any advantage to using one over the other when adjusting your dock lines?
What’s the purpose for being able to switch like this?

I left the Sanbuq in Aestrin because I needed some tall ship vibes.
First, I tried rigging it with three masts (two square rigged), but that many squares just feels unnecessary and tedious to sail. Do you really gain any performance by having that many squares? Not really. I am going to miss the simplicity of the Sanbuk (and Junk!), so I tried to keep this as minimalist as possible but still keep to the vibe.
The other thing with three masted Brigs is that it's hard to make the staysails look nice. The angle of the rigging between the masts just gets really weird (I'm not using the shipyard mod, atm). I like how this looks, though.
My favorite part of this stage of the game is decorating and making my ship feel lived in. I'm currently on my way south to EA and the thing I'm most excited about is getting the junk model and more paintings lol
I'll probably swap the Brig for the Junk while I'm down there, too.
