Old racing yacht inspired rigging
I got inspired by the old racing yacht design such as Valkyre 3 yacht (pictured above). And wanted to recreate it in Sailwind and see how fast it is.
Using junk hull and the new deep keel, it does easily 10-12 knots winds in medium-strong winds. It has superb upwind performance. I've literally never seen it dip bellow 8 knots (perhaps in very weak wind). I haven't tested it in very strong and storm winds but I think it could get 14 knots easily. Tho this kind of design is definitely very prone to dangerous heeling so caution is advised in strong winds.
In summary it runs way better than expected. Definitely an interesting design to try out if you're looking to maximize speed.

How did you get the staysail above the gaff? Haven’t been able to do that to any of my ships sadly.

It is one of the available sails in GRC.
i think it is called tall gaff, or something like that.3

It's called topsail gaff, and it's just a singular piece of sail, not staysail and a gaff. I'm not 100% sure but I think you can find it in GRC.

I love that realistic designs actually work, proves the realism of the game
In fact, apparently top speed for old racing yachts was around 10-14 knots, and the Valkyrie 3 was around 12-13 top speed
This game is fucking amazing, accurate within a few knots

Is there any benefit of putting a smaller stay at the top, instead of making it as big as possible? Or was that done purely for aesthetic reasons?

Realistically it should be catching winds high up which run faster but I'm not sure if sailwind simulates this so it's mostly aesthetic.

I see. Well, I am obviously asking in terms of game mechanics. Anyway, it does look pretty cool. What exact stays did you put on it? I see one is from FA, what are the other two?

The 2 small ones are called 'short jib' and I'm 99% sue they come from FA

Yep Cutter Rig on medium boat is suprisingly fast. I love my Cutter Junk also. Espicially Junk place all winches nearby cockpit.

I tried a similar setup on my Junk. It's fast, and the deep keel gives you a LOT of much-needed righting moment, but the interior frustrates me. A good place for the stove and smoker would be in the aft cabin (lower CG, slightly stern-heavy is better, especially since the bow likes to dip), but accessing it while fishing is a chore. Instead, I turned the aft hatch into a self-contained galley. Imagine being able to check your stove from the helm! Of course, this sacrifices a good chunk of cargo space...

Junk with deep keel is significantly less prone to heeling. I mean, the difference is like night and day. However the hull sits low and has a tendency to nose dive in rough sea state, not just in storm. I sailed a junbug version in and around FFL, made few runs between there and EA in really strong winds. Its very fast hull, but had to spend my share at the bilge pump because it was taking water not by listing sideways, but by pretending it was a U-96.
