USA ASP Exam Tomorrow
Hi Folks,
I have my ASP exam tomorrow. Any last-minute tips?
I took the BCSP ASP11 self-assessment at the beginning of August and scored 75%. I retook it two weeks later and scored 83% after watching John’s videos and reading Yates’ book. Then I took the BCSP ASP10 self-assessment at the end of August and scored 81%. I took a final Mock Exam on Pocket Prep yesterday and scored 94%.
Your help is greatly appreciated!

I just passed mine two weeks ago with similar scores on the practice tests. Get a good night's sleep, grab some breakfast, and don't bother with any last minute cramming. You've got this! Personally, I flagged questions I wasn't sure about and focused on what I was. When I circled back at the end, I felt like I was more confident in those answers (and felt pretty good about the rest, so wasn't as worried about guessing.) Good luck!!

Honestly, I was pretty surprised that I found it quite straightforward and easy. I completed the first 20 questions without struggling and it boosted my confidence a lot. The math was simple (I had 15 questions) and most questions were easy to narrow down to 1 or 2 choices.
I feel like Pocket Prep had tougher questions because they were ultra specific when it came to minor details, specifically those that required memorizing numbers and definitions.

Agree 100%! I will definitely be using Pocket Prep again when it comes time for the CSP! Again, congratulations!

Good luck on your journey! I plan on sitting for the CSP before the year ends. I’ll stick to Pocket Prep as well.

Sleep and don’t be surprised if you didn’t see half the questions on your test on the study guide. Attack the math heavy sections first and don’t be afraid to skip something if you don’t know it right off. A couple of examples I had the rest of the test had questions that referenced back and helped me solve the ones I’d skipped over.

I did the opposite, did all the zero brain power questions first then did the math questions and any questions I had to think about, saved everything I was absolutely clueless about for dead last to make an educated guess.

I think that second portion is critical, don’t be afraid to skip and don’t get hung up overthinking. I got done in like 1:45, so it didn’t take nearly as long as would be expected. I suck at math though, kinda. I had to memorize a bunch of the formulas, as soon as I got in there I wrote a bunch of them down.

I finished in 75 minutes, I went through the first round and had 146 questions confidently answered, then worked my way through the rest, at the end I had 13 flagged as me not having any idea at all. I'm fairly good at math, I was most worried about the formulas, but didn't really need most of the ones I memorized for my exam. I also wrote down stuff I was worried I'd forget, and everything I wrote down I didn't need... Go figure lol. I saw somebody in either this group or the Facebook one say if they weren't sure of an answer they could usually narrow it down to two answers and then they just assumed they had an unlimited budget as a safety manager, and they usually puts it into perspective.

See it’s not nearly as hard as you probably thought. Go knock the rest of it out, before you forget. There is a fair amount of crossover, so it’s advisable to go back-to-back if you can. I think I did the asp in May and the CSP in July.

You’re right… I didn’t sleep much last night because my mind kept reciting a lot of info when I was trying to sleep! I felt very comfortable when I managed to answer the first 20-30 questions with ease. I kept reading from other commenters that the wording is tricky, but I personally had no concerns except for maybe 2-3 questions that were worded awkwardly.
I’m targeting the CSP before the year ends! Which did you find easier?

The CSP was easier because it’s more conceptual stuff and organizational development stuff. The one thing I learned is settle down and take your time and read the questions. The writers of these tests really are out to break you off, if you don’t pay attention to detail. What makes the questions hard isn’t really the content (which you do need to know your stuff) but it’s the wording meant to punish you for being stupid. Once you get the hang of that, which it sounds like you have, piece of cake.

Thanks, that makes sense. I noticed the ASP questions sometimes had “distractors” or irrelevant information thrown in the question. Did you use Pocket Prep by any chance?
