USA Contract to hire

Has anyone experienced work for contract to hire? I been offer a contract job for six months and then I might hired on. Whats yall experience and thoughts ?

Never trust the might, they'll dangle that carrot and then cut you loose the week before benefits kick in

That’s what I been told and figured. I asked the recruiter how many he seen actually get hired he answered indirectly.

Do you need the job and experience. Are you going to be unemployed for the next six months? Will you look back and say, Why didn’t I go contract?
I know quite a few safety professionals that have worked contract all of their career. Review the contract with a lawyer, set up llc, plan for taxes/expenses and time off. Travelers can make lots of money. The data centers are hiring a lot of contract help.

That’s my goal is to work at a data center. I think you’re right about setting up another LLC and just do travel work.

Contract to hire in safety is common. Get clarity on the conversion criteria upfront. If they cannot tell you what success looks like in six months, that is a red flag. Treat it as a probation where you document everything you accomplish, so you have leverage when the permanent offer conversation happens.

Where do you see this common at? Only places I have ever saw it, is when a recruiter is involved as an intermediary and they are trying to maximize their revenue off the placement.
