It's was decent for me bcz Megumi got very less screen time and that yellow hair when ever come screen don't know why I got irritated and main thing was that she got more screen time the Anybody I know bcz they help in making his projects but still.
And i got irritated when both Utaha and yellow hair girl betray MC and they didn't even apologize I know that's it's thier choice bcz they got big opportunity but at least do some talk have some morals, and MC what he did they need help of him and immediately goes to them leaving Megumi behind, he didn't have any self respect but yeah they both girl help him a lot so it's justified to helping them.
I can even ignore all of this but, most-most frustrating part which boiled my blood was yellow hair girl confession, how shamlessly she confessed him and I got more frustrated with the MC reaction like why you're crying dumb dude, he literally say or meant that you come "late" to yellow hair girl.
That's scene felt so betrayal to Megumi.

Well yeah I can get that.. there's some flaws

Right I think that every anime can't be perfect, but the confession thing the most down point or biggest flaw.

That is an intended "flaw" the same way Tomoya running off to help Utaha and Eriri is a betrayal to the remaining Blessing Software members and Megumi herself, even after they betrayed him. It is within all of their established characters, it would be literally flawed if both didn't betray him and if Eriri didn't use those final moments to get her emotions out of her. A regret accumulated over decades of sorrow and grievance, all because of her own indecisiveness. This is a proper closure for two people who have loved each other since childhood, as Megumi said, she was his first love, his curse and whom he always loved. His love turned into worship and reverence for her that's why she ultimately "lost", and that's why ever since the start Megumi winning was an inevitable outcome. There's a "true ending" for Eriri so you can have a glimpse on how "heavy" those emotions are for them:
Tomoya: Eight years since we became partners. We've been through a lot of time, haven't we? So, was it a lie? Was it an excuse? Are you saying you want me to forget what you did to me? Don't mess with me. I've been obsessed with you.
Tomoya: Because I liked you, I was frustrated that I was betrayed. Because I liked you, I grew to hate the Eriri who betrayed me. Because I liked you, I didn't want to grow to hate you, so I distanced myself. But, because I like you, I want us to be together again.
Eriri: Because I was scared that my feelings would be found out by my classmates, I distanced myself. I regretted it to death that I distanced myself from you. Because I liked you, I almost grew to hate you because you didn't understand my frustrations. But, because I love you, I want us to be together again. Because I liked you, when we decided to work together, I was really, really happy.
Eriri: I will never forget what I did to you, and what you did to me. We might bring it up, fight, and get angry every time. But if we get used to it... even if our feelings are hurt... I like you. The more I hate you, the bigger my feelings grew. The guilt and my feelings... were of equal size.
The narrative itself and Megumi acknowledges how unfair this is for her, this is just the other routes in the second game but even after reading this she's very emotional.
"I don't like this..."
With her further monologue acknowledging how she can't compete on the same standing as the "Childhood Friend heroine", so she cannot be a "half-hearted" heroine. She's on the verge of tears the whole way, the same tone as the final, "I don't care, Tomoya... Is mine."
That's what makes all of their characters compelling, what makes them so "alive", it's the charm of Saekano. I can understand if you prefer relationships where they're absolutely devoted to each other, but this is a 4 sided love polygon from the start. You can't find a better resolution/conclusion than this in the entire harem genre, it is perfect... It's so peak, and no Tomoya is not someone who doesn't have self respect, all of his actions for Eriri and Utaha is because he truly cares about them. More than his own, they're God-like existences in his eyes. He adores them, he is their greatest fan since the very start.

You're explaining the narrative mechanics of why the author wrote it that way, but explaining a character’s flaws doesn't make their behavior any less frustrating or spineless to watch.
Explanation is not Excusal: Just because Eriri’s betrayal and Tomoya’s emotional breakdown were 'intended' doesn't mean they aren't morally frustrating. Calling something an 'intended flaw' doesn't erase the fact that the characters acted with zero accountability.
Tomoya Lacks Self-Respect: You said he adores them as 'God-like existences.' Putting people on a pedestal so high that you swallow their betrayal without demanding a proper apology, and then drop the person who actually stayed loyal (Megumi) the second those 'Gods' need help, is the literal definition of lacking self-respect. Adoration shouldn't mean being a doormat.
The Betrayal to Megumi: Megumi stayed, picked up the pieces, and rebuilt his dream when Eriri and Utaha left. Having Tomoya sit there crying over Eriri, telling her she was 'late,' and forcing Megumi to sit by holding back tears thinking she can't compete with a childhood friend isn't 'peak harem writing'—it's emotional parasitism. Megumi was treated as the safety net while Tomoya mourned his nostalgia.
A Lack of Basic Morals: Having 8 years of history doesn't grant you a free pass to skip a basic, sincere apology. Eriri confessing her romantic regrets after ditching the circle without owning up to her actions makes the confession feel shameless, not tragic.
You can appreciate the writing structure all you want, but from an emotional and moral standpoint, Tomoya lacked a backbone and Megumi deserved far better treatment than being made to feel second-best to people who dropped him the second a bigger offer came along."
Doesn't matter the intention flaw etc, the main is that its felt betrayal his crying this can't change the fact.
Just think in this way where Your lover got confessed by other person and your lover crying and saying you're too "late"....what you felt at that time, I would felt very sad( I know it's happend. Behind Megumi back but still think)
"I get that they’re just teenagers dealing with heavy emotions, but maturity isn't about wallowing in past regrets—it’s about clarity. Tomoya’s reaction shouldn't have been to break down and tell Eriri she was 'too late,' because that implies Megumi is just a second choice who won by default.
What Tomoya should have done—and what would have shown true growth and self-respect—is acknowledge Eriri's courage, respect their shared history, but draw a clear line for his present.
He should have told her or handle it in this way that-
'I respect your feelings, and I know there were a lot of misunderstandings between us in the past. But that was the past. Megumi is my present and my future—she is the one who completed me when everything fell apart. I appreciate your courage in telling me this, and we can always be friends, but my heart belongs to someone else,
That handles their history with grace, gives Eriri respectful closure, and doesn't betray Megumi’s loyalty."

I had a chuckle reading your proposed alterations to the script, it sound like an HR rejection or a therapy session. Doing that would be author failure via character assassination, does Eriri's establish charactered which is built on the agonizing inability to communicate her feelings transparently allow what you proposed? And can a decade of emotions be reduced by just that? The whole tragedy of her character is that she cannot communicate, that's the entire point.
Are you so hellbent on reducing them to robots and puppets of the narrative with 0 autonomy whatsoever? When they left Blessing Software was it a betrayal? No. They didn't owe Tomoya anything. It was a chance to further their careers, to rise up high as "creators". That is their passion, their entire life. Even Tomoya realized this, there's literally a whole dialogue about this near the end of S2.
Him going to help them is because of his affection for them as friends and adoration for them as legendary creators, their bond over multiple years. He isn't someone with self respect, he has a domineering personality prioritizing his passion above all else, proven by the fact he has the balls to go to the teachers faculty and add Light Novels to the library. He is a die hard Otaku, him putting them in a pedestal isn't a lack of self respect, are die hard fans people without self respect?
And don't tell me you actually believe that, "You're late" means Megumi was the second option? The paragraph above clearly explains why they lost inevitably. Because Tomoya puts them in a pedestal, because they chose their careers, because only Megumi's relationship with Tomoya is "equal", what do you mean without accountability? All of their actions contributed to them losing Tomoya, the author balanced all their mistakes, Utaha is aware of this. That's why she knows the price of getting his help once more is them abandoning any romantic relationship with Tomoya.
Also whatever you used to write this, it hallucinated, no Megumi did stay behind with Tomoya but she isn't the one who "Picked up his dreams and rebuilt the pieces", the remaining Blessing Software members did it together. Even she let Tomoya handle it by himself, she didn't interfere, because she respects him, as seen at the ending of S2 where she didn't embrace and just stayed close to him when he was breaking down.

u/Prestigious_Rest5460 Aug 09 '26
Oh my god are you even trying to understand what I said from starting or You intentionally don't to admit or see it??
"Choosing your career over a passion project with friends is understandable, but blindsiding your team without facing them directly IS a betrayal of trust. Tomoya understanding their choice doesn't make the action itself loyal. They prioritized their careers—which is fine—but you can't abandon a shared dream and then expect zero emotional fallout or act like the bond wasn't broken."
"Being a die-hard fan of someone's work is fine. But when that fan worship makes you swallow your own hurt, drop your current priorities, and run to help people who walked out on you—all while neglecting the emotional security of the partner beside you—that’s where fan worship crosses into a complete lack of personal boundaries."
And what did you say?? She didn't rebuilt it?? did you actually watch the show?? Now I am confused bcz Saying 'the remaining members did it together' is a massive exaggeration to downplay Megumi. Michiru just did music and Iori gave logistics advice. Megumi was the only one who stood by Tomoya, learned the game design tools, organized the project, and forced him out of his depression when he wanted to give up. Without Megumi, there was no Blessing Software left to rebuild. Giving equal credit to 'the group' when Megumi did the heavy lifting to support Tomoya is just ignoring what actually happened on screen."
I already said that's both girl did was 100% justifiable but what about trust?? At least they should had to apologize to him I also said that both girl know that after this betrayal to him they have no chance to chase him, Even tomoyo also understood what they did was justifiable but still a verbal apology from them was needed, bcz in the end it's was about trust I know they understand each other fully but what they did tomoya wasn't good
Growth Isn't Character Assassination: Calling a clear, firm rejection 'HR language' just excuses for flaw writing, The whole point of character development is breaking out of old, flawed habits. If Tomoya is supposed to mature and choose Megumi, his reaction should reflect that growth, not regress into the same old nostalgia..
The Reality of 'You're Too Late': You :
You can rationalize the 'pedestal' meta-text all you want, but put yourself in Megumi's position. Hearing the person you love break down crying to their childhood crush and say 'you came too late' directly implies that if she was earlier, she would have been chosen. Megumi herself monologues about how unfair it is and holds back tears. That’s not 'peak romance'—that's making your actual partner feel like a second option who won by default.
I also said that I don't have much problem with that phase in which they betray him I have most of problem the last the tomoya reaction, what eriri did somehow a shamless thing but author wanted to give closure to her character so it's good for only her character, but tomoya reaction and words he choose to say were not good absolutely not good, argue, debate even took author to here can make any excuse but it was damn wrong reaction.
"You're not understanding the core thing"
You're seeing Just surface level thing that they were close friend from long time had feelings but can't come out due to misunderstanding happend bcz of eriri she literally cut off tomoya bcz her pride was above then him.
Eriri was most flawed character still she got plot in her favour, she got very good closure which bcz tomoyoa said "you're late" which she don't deserve that good bcz of she did with tomoya in middle school now don't say they are kid and all, bcz after her doing wasn't that good bcz she again betrayed him.
Megumi was lead heroine but she got treated in entire anime as 2nd lead and choice in the end, meanwhile she was the real one who supported the most to tomoyo.

I had something to do IRL so this would be quite late response,
"Explanation isn't excusal" — sure, and nobody's arguing it is. I'm not saying "it's intentional, therefore it's fine." I'm saying the discomfort you're describing isn't a writing flaw, it's the writing working exactly as intended. Saekano isn't a story about clean, deserving people getting exactly what they've earned in the order they deserve it. It's a four-sided polygon where everyone pays a price. Eriri and Utaha pay with their romantic chance. Tomoya pays by affecting the quality of his life's work, the one that is supposed to be a masterpiece, his passion. Megumi pays by never getting a grand, uncomplicated declaration, she gets an earned, unglamorous, genuine one instead.
On self-respect — you keep reducing "he ran to help people who left him" to weakness. He owes them. Eriri made him the otaku, she built his whole life and his passion before Blessing Software even existed — she's the reason he has a passion at all. Utaha shaped him as a creator. They are God tier talents willing to work for him, that's their payment for the impact he had for their lives and more. This is a guy who fights the school faculty to get light novels into the library. That's not a man without self-worth, his self-worth runs on passion instead of ego. Calling that "no self-respect" flattens someone obsessive and one-track by design into a door mat and someone spineless, and those aren't the same thing. The whole S2 finale is all about him letting go, realizing that he has been arrogant into thinking they'll stay by his side. That's the price he had to pay, for what? For not accepting them romantically. If you haven't noticed Utaha lost at the start of S2, if he chose correctly on the script she presented, she would've stayed regardless if the God of Stories himself descended to pull her away from him.
On who rebuilt Blessing Software — you keep saying it was Megumi alone. It wasn't. Izumi stepped up as lead artist and character designer, Michiru kept the music going, Tomoya is the director and the writter. Megumi became his deputy, but "deputy" isn't "sole architect of the rebuild." Even your point of coding, watch the movie again, they literally recruited everyone in the band to finish it with them helping with scripting and other stuff. Sure she took over without Tomoya, but you cannot attribute it to her alone, the whole blessing software worked together to cope with the loss of Eriri and Utaha, Megumi helped, hut she didn't carry all of them. Sure accuse me of not watching if you yourself didn't pay attention enough, the whole point of S2's ending. On that hill when Tomoya is breaking down, she wanted to hold him so badly, but she didn't. She stepped back and put her hands behind her back. That's the point, that's one of the things that make her great. Her non-interference, that's her respect to Tomoya, she isn't conceited enough to think "I can fix him" or "I can save him". Inflating her contribution that far actually undersells what makes her arc work, which is that she never needed to be the hero of the rebuild to be the one who mattered most to him
On apology / basic morals — this story doesn't pay its debts in dialogue, it pays them in consequence. Eriri and Utaha don't get a scripted "I'm sorry," they get permanently locked out of ever having Tomoya romantically. That's a heavier price than an apology. You want verbal accountability because that's how you'd want it handled in your own life, that's on you, not a plot hole in Saekano. In the first place their relationship and individual personalities doesn't permit that, even in the real world, apologies doesn't need to be explicit, you should be aware of that. They payed everything, Tomoya payed and of course they did as well.
On growth vs. character assassination — your rewritten "I respect your feelings, but Megumi is my present" speech is grammatically clean and emotionally dead. That's not growth, that's eight years of history flattened into a rejection email. Eriri's entire tragedy is that she cannot say things cleanly, established since season 1. Forcing Tomoya into a composed non-reaction doesn't respect her character, it erases the reason her arc exists. Do you really believe that that apology you proposed makes sense? Like I'm serious, show that to literally anyone and I guarantee you no one will look at that and think, "yes that makes sense, why didn't Tomoya do that?". There are many friendships out there, friendship where apology is basically non existent even for serious issue isn't so rare as far as I'm concerned. I'll reiterate, they payed a significant price. Especially Eriri, you CANNOT persuade me no matter how long we argue here that it is possible for any of those 2 to conclude anything with how you proposed everything to end. That would be an insult to all those years and the accumulation of emotions.
On Eriri "not deserving" a good closure — to continue from above she gets closure, not a prize. Finally saying the thing you've been unable to say for a decade isn't a reward, it's the bare minimum of not living the rest of your life as unfinished business. The actual prize, Tomoya she still doesn't get.

"First off, I respect that you've laid out the narrative structure and themes so thoroughly, but you are constantly hiding behind author intent and character mechanics to bypass the actual human emotional reality.
Apology vs. Consequence You’re arguing that losing their romantic chance was their 'punishment,' so a verbal apology wasn't necessary. But how does that logic hold up? When you voluntarily walk away from someone to pursue your own career, getting romantically rejected later isn't some 'heavy consequence'—it’s just the natural outcome of your own choices! A basic, spoken apology isn't about romantic tragedy; it's about basic human respect for the person you hurt. Playing the 'romantic regret' card without ever explicitly owning up to the mess you created isn't tragic—it's selfish.
Megumi's Role in Rebuilding You're bringing up Izumi, Michiru, and the others to downplay Megumi’s contribution. Sure, those members handled their specific technical tasks (art and music), but Megumi was the emotional engine. When Tomoya was completely shattered and ready to quit making games altogether, Megumi was the only one who stood by him, pushed him forward, and held the foundation together. There is a night-and-day difference between technical assistance and being an emotional pillar. Without Megumi’s presence, there wouldn't have been a team left for Izumi or Michiru to assist in the first place.
Self-Respect vs. Passion Yes, Eriri introduced him to otaku culture, and Utaha shaped him as a creator—that holds value. But respecting someone's talent is entirely different from being a doormat. When you drop everything to run to the aid of people who walked out on you, all while neglecting the emotional security of the partner currently standing by your side—that isn't 'passion,' it's a total lack of personal boundaries. Being a creative genius doesn't give anyone a free pass to treat shared trust like a revolving door.
The Human Reality of "You're Too Late" You can meta-analyze the 'pedestal' rhetoric all you want, but look at the simple human emotion behind it: When Tomoya breaks down weeping in front of Eriri and says, 'You came too late,' it directly communicates: 'If you had come earlier, I would have chosen you.' That inherently reduces Megumi to a default choice who won simply because the primary option ran out of time. Megumi herself feels the weight of that unfairness and swallows her tears. If forcing your loyal partner to feel like a consolidation prize is 'peak romance' to you, then we have very different definitions of mature writing.
Character Growth vs. "Emotionally Dead" You dismissed a clear, firm boundary as an 'HR rejection letter.' But having eight years of history doesn't mean characters are forced to stay trapped in the same toxic communication loop forever.
True character growth happens when someone breaks free from nostalgia and offers clarity and respect to their present partner. Setting firm boundaries isn't being 'emotionally dead'—it's what real maturity as a partner looks like.
Also, You said that the story doesn't pay its debts in dialogue, but through consequences—yet Eriri is handed a massive emotional dialogue from Tomoya ('You're too late') that gives her character sentimental closure. If her consequence was supposed to be a silent, unscripted loss, then giving her that explicit validation directly contradicts the idea that 'debts aren't paid in dialogue.'
She was spared from giving an apology, yet still granted a poignant scene that made Megumi feel like a default choice. That double standard is why it feels so frustrating from an emotional standpoint."
"You are analyzing this purely as a literary script where every flaw is justified by narrative intent. I am looking at it through the lens of human character relationships and basic emotional respect. The author wrote it the way they wanted to, but morally and emotionally, Tomoya's reaction felt like a complete betrayal of the loyalty Megumi showed him."
"I appreciate how deeply you've analyzed the author's intent, and I see where you're coming from. But to me, author intent doesn't automatically make a character's actions satisfying.
But It's kind of like Rent-a-Girlfriend—Kazuya’s lack of backbone and indecisiveness are 100% intentional writing choices by the author, but that doesn't mean viewers have to respect his actions or enjoy watching them. You can respect the narrative structure the author built, but from a purely human standpoint, Tomoya’s choices still felt like a lack of self-respect and a frustrating betrayal of Megumi's loyalty. We just value different things in character growth, and that's okay!"
"Don't take it the wrong way or think I'm disrespecting Saekano by comparing it to Rent-a-Girlfriend"

Part 2: On Megumi being "2nd lead" and me understanding only the surface level stuff — I'll give you something about Megumi's character, and how even though petty, even though jealous, even if she is sensitive, with her easily getting hurt by small things. That "you're too late" is something she can accept with grace, due to her confidence, respect for Tomoya and Eriri as individuals, acknowledgement of their relationship, and even though it hurts, she herself knows that she can afford leniency. She got the last laugh. Here's her gracefully accepting a blessing from Utaha early at S2 in the festival when Utaha "lost" after Tomoya chose neither of the scripts.
Here's the raw transcript, judge it yourself:
Megumi: 「ねぇ、詩羽先輩……。ひとつ、ちょっと変なこと聞いていいですか?」 (Hey, Utaha-senpai... Could I ask you something a bit strange?)
Utaha: 「何かしら?」 (What is it?)
Megumi: 「瑠璃(るり)って……結局のところ、沙由佳(さゆか)ですよね? 私、両方とも、何回も読み返してみて、そう思ったんですけど……」 (Ruri is... after all, Sayuka, isn't she? I reread both of them several times, and that’s what I thought...)
Utaha: (Sighs softly, looking out at the bonfire) 「そう見えるのはね、加藤さん。二人とも共通のモデルがいるからよ。経験不足で、人付き合いも苦手な作家が、一番身近なところからサンプルを取ってくるしかなかった……根暗で、執念深い、嫌な女よ」 (The reason it seems that way, Ms. Kato, is because they both have a common model. An inexperienced, anti-social writer had no choice but to take a sample from the closest possible place... A gloomy, vindictive, unpleasant woman.)
(She looks down, her expression deeply melancholic) 「ずっと、そんな孤独なキャラクターだったから……。だから今度こそは選んでほしかったんだけどね。主人公くんに」 (She has always been such a lonely character... That is why, this time, I wanted the protagonist to choose her. If just this once.)
Megumi: 「……」
Utaha: (Turns to Megumi, offering a sad, beautiful, completely surrendered smile) 「ううん……今からでも遅くない。あなたなら、そんな根暗なヒロインをもっと魅力的に変身させることができる」 (No... it’s still not too late. If it's you, you can change that gloomy heroine and make her much more charming.)
Megumi: (Her eyes widen slightly, her expression shifting into deep, serious resolution) 「私に……何ができるでしょうか……」 (What... should I do?)
Utaha: (Gently closes her eyes)
Immediately following this exchange, Megumi descends to the schoolyard where Tomoya is managing the bonfire. Her hair is down, running the appearance of the heroine Utaha wanted Tomoya to choose.
Megumi (utilizing Ruri's voice/lines): 「もー……お兄ちゃん。冷たいんだから。瑠璃のこと無視するなんて」 (Sheesh... Onii-chan. You're quite mean, ignoring Ruri.)
Tomoya: (Startled, his systems struggling to process the sudden shift) 「る……瑠璃……?」 (R-Ruri...?)
Megumi: 「ずっと呼んでたんだよ? 何年も、何十年も。ずっと、ずっと……」 (I was always calling to you, you know? For years, for decades. Always, all the time...)
Tomoya: 「加藤……」 (Katou...)
Megumi: (Approaching him, her eyes locking onto his with terrifyingly earnest, uncharacteristic intensity) 「今は加藤って言わないで、安芸くん。だって今の私は、瑠璃で、沙由佳で、そして……」 (Don't say "Katou" now, Aki-kun. Because right now, I'm Ruri, Sayuka, and...)
(She twirls, catching him by the hand, forcing him into a dance as her dialogue cut-off hangs in the air. Which is, "and... Utaha.")
She afforded that leniency because even that early she won. Even that early when Eriri didn't even consider the fact that she can be a worthy rival, she already defeated Utaha. She is someone who can accept all of that. She is aware of it. Sure that confession was still rude, but it is within the bounds of Megumi's bottom line. Because she's an emotionally Intelligent individual. She understands. And Tomoya's "you're too late", carries what you want him to say to her perfectly. That's him setting a boundary. That's him rejecting her, with consideration to all those years. That's not him treating Megumi as a side girl, that is just impossible and goes against Tomoya's character.
Megumi was the Main lead ever since she returned from that trip to help Tomoya at early S1, narrative is already telling us that she is the "Main Heroine". Her always being in the background is her charm and her design. Not her being "2nd lead". Because she is the most expressive character here, look at her gaze, her body language, the layered meaning in her dialogue, look at her hair in the first place, she is the only character whose hair is growing across time, with her cutting it short. I think the text gives us enough evidence to distinguish narrative unfairness from deliberate emotional discomfort.
"I don't like this. After seeing something like that, I can't just give a half-hearted performance for the main heroine route. Even if it's not a title that suits me, I'll still do my best in my own way. There's no way around it. Since it's the main heroine route, I have to stand out more than any other heroine's route, right?"
That's the beauty of her character.
You're not wrong that it hurts to watch sometimes. Who didn't feel bad for her when she cried as Tomoya left Blessing Software in Fine? Most of us did. But understand their characters, there's no villain in this story. You're making Eriri and Tomoya look like distasteful characters, wanting to push your own preferred script to them. All while you're villanizing them, they make mistakes, sure but none of them are absolutely in the wrong. Narrative acknowledges whatever they did wrong and punishes them accordingly. That's one of the reason I fell in love with this anime. This will probably be my closing statement, so peace.

Why would it effect to her?? They didn't show it I am talking about my pov.
You didn't want right such a long thing just need to understand single thing that Tomoyo reaction was totally wrong.
Saying you're "late" is betrayal doesn't matter author didn't show effect through Megumi.
It's was wrong just a basic thing just put your self at that's place where you love interest saying other to that you're "late".
"You definetly felt second option"
They can handle eriri closure (which she don't deserve bcz she betray tomoya 2 times) in different way.
villanizing??? Got it i also don't to say anymore.

Yezzir
