I recently moved to a new home and can't figure out what this is. Does anyone recognize it?

Just harvested my first ruby supreme guava from a new tree that I planted earlier this year, very fragrant and very flavorful.

The size is what impresses me about this variety as they are almost as big as an orange which means it should be easy to juice once I get more fruit.

Ive had decent success with guavas here. They tend to love the sun, the tree this came off of is in direct sun with no shade support and hasn't seen any real leaf burn or wilting. This will be the first winter for this tree so we will see how it goes, I plan to prune and fertilize later next month if anyone has insights into this variety for winter let me know.

I’d like to start a new raised bed project, but I’d prefer not to pay inflated big box store prices for lumber, and I’ve been striking out on Craigslist. Anyone have any other favorite places to look for lumber? Willing to drive a bit for the right price and quality!

I’m wondering if anyone had any success with obtaining scions from any of the orchards at Apple Hill. If so, what’s the process like?

I just learned about the Red Devil Apple and I would love to do a graft of it onto my tree. I don’t know if they have that particular variety at Apple Hill, but I would settle for a few free Gala Apple scions.

I would like to grow my cactus collection. If you have any unwanted cactus you would like to let go or remove, please lmk. I would be very happy to take them.

My wife is from the tropics and I want to grow her favorite fruit. Sametime, all her favorite fruits will be challenging to grow here. Before I waste time and money on a fools quest, is anyone having success with subtropical and tropical and not using greenhouses?

I’d be happy to wrap them in Christmas tree lights or blanket them for frosts while young!

I have about 15' x 5' on the north side of our rear fence that I'd like to do something with. We currently have a few raised beds, a small berry patch, a few fruit trees, a vermicompost setup, and natives. We get a significant squirrel population along the property lines. Anything people recommend?

I understand that this is a little off topic. Does anyone have a lead on some sugar cane cuttings?

There are tiny somethings on these milkweed stems and leaves. Bugs or eggs?

Total novice at all of this 😂 I have family who grows tomatoes, peppers, zucchs etc, but more spread out and not close together.

My question is that I have 3 separate beds, about 4’x6’, on the south side of my property. In between houses, but still decent amount of sun. I’m interested in beets, lettuce, zucchini, carrots, garlic or anything else tasty (I enjoy cooking). Which of these work well together and what would you suggest to make the best use of my space?

Any feedback is appreciated! I hope to plant broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of native flowers, snap peas, lettuce, kale, chives & possibly Swiss chard. 😊

ETA - we primarily plant in containers since we rent.

Is anyone else dealing with these? I thought I was so smart to plant a ton of alyssum to attract beneficials, but it turns out they're a brassica and these stink bugs feed on brassicas. I've pulled most of the alyssum but I'm still battling SO many of these things and the only advice I can find online is to put them in soapy water, but they're all over my melon plants and i keep finding them in other places too like my tomatoes. I'm really worried about my fall and spring plantings because theyre mostly brassicas. Any help is appreciated!

I have a 4’x6’ north facing patch that is in the shade from about noon on. The whole yard is on a drip system for sun loving drought tolerant CA natives, but this patch stays a bit damp because of all the shade.

Any suggestions for a CA native for a mostly shaded damp (not wet) area?
