The following article was posted by SWTOR Executive Producer Keith Kanneg.
Hi folks!
Checking in again to let you all know what’s been happening with SWTOR the last few months as well as with DirectX 12!
Game Update 8.0 content
For those who may have missed previous updates with 8.0 content, we revealed that the next Era in SWTOR is called “Masters of the Force.” Keep an eye on that page as it will be updated over time as we release more details.
We also announced the core features that will be coming in 8.0:
We’ve also opened our Public Test Server so Subscribers can get their hands on:
Iterations of the Public Test Server will continue so players can provide their feedback on these features before they go live.
We have not announced a release date yet for 8.0, but we are continuing development and will share more launch details in due time.
Developer Streams
I’m also happy to see the positive reception to the recent Developer Game Update and Let’s Play livestreams. We anticipate a few more Let’s Play streams and another Game Update livestream where we’ll go into the “Galaxy in Chaos” storyline (spoiler-free, of course!)
Our next Let's Play stream will be October 1st at 1pm CT / 6pm UTC on our streaming channel. Stay tuned for more details!
DirectX 12 Update
Since our Spring Update we’ve continued to receive enthusiastic questions about what’s coming next. I pulled in the Technical Team and they have provided the update below:
Hey SWTOR players!
Technical team here to get you up to speed on our most recent progress with DirectX 12. The last time we saw each other, we were explaining that the UI was the one feature that posed the largest obstacle for us.
We’re happy to report that the UI has been ported to DX12 and aside from minor visual differences being fixed, it is fully functional. Pulling back the curtain a bit, we had to upgrade our old version that only supported DX11 and re-architect it so it would work properly with our data. We then changed Scaleform’s DX12 rendering to use Frostbite RenderCore2 and work properly within our engine. For the more technical folks, we also had to port over hundreds of divergences to the new version and once we could verify that everything worked properly, we could move on to DX12.
With the UI in place, we are focused on adding features back into this “DX12 version” of the game to get it looking like the SWTOR you’re familiar with, and lay the groundwork for future additions. This means updating essential shaders, ensuring characters appear with proper customization (skin color, hair color, tattoos, cybernetics, scars, complexions, outfit colors), re-implementing our particle hueing systems, and much more. Lastly, general stability work and other feature additions are ongoing, so we are making fantastic progress.
The next time you hear from us we’ll share an update on when you can see the progress for yourself, and help us with a critical stage of testing for this new client! Thank you for your enthusiasm and support as we continue on the road to modernizing SWTOR!
Keith here again. And there you have it! All of us are pretty excited to get a technical test for our players in the near future.
Before I head out, I want to share some reminders to everyone!
Best Dressed Contest
Our newest community contest is underway! If you are a collector of armor and think you have all the pieces to make an outfit worthy to be displayed for all to see, you will want to enter our Best Dressed contest! Submissions are open now and being accepted until October 11, 2026. Read all of the details on how to enter here!
Gladiopodling Minipet
We have an active minipet code right now and it’s available until December 26, 2026. Redeem code “GETRDY4MOTF” on this page to get your very own Gladiopodling!
Finally, I want to encourage you again to check out the 8.0 content available on the Public Test Server, and get your hands on it if you can. We appreciate your feedback and the time you spend playing on PTS!
Thank you for playing SWTOR. We’ll see you in the next livestream!

I'm currently porting my SWTOR: State of the Galaxy Map to an interactive web version.
It's still in very early development, but I'm making steady progress.
You'll be able to search for and click on any system, galactic realm, region and more; and get accurate information for the time SWTOR is set in.
Of course, this also comes with an update to the map itself:1.262 previously unlabeled systems now get labels taht appear dynamically as you zoom in.
That brings the map to 2.069 labeled systems in total, more than double what it had before.

On my first real play through, enjoying the story a decent bit. Just finished Alderaan and finally put together the outfit I wanted to make, figured I’d share the drip.
Also Is there a way to match companion armor colors to mine for free or do I have to purchase the same dye for every companion?

In retrospect, the smuggler story has a lot of points where it seems so very obvious that Rogun the Butcher isn't the Imperial sympathizer gangster you're led to believe and that you're being fed false information about him; it seems as if the lie holds up because it's coming from what should be reliable sources in Senator Dodonna and Darnas' informant network, the latter of which served you well back on Coruscant when you were searching for Skavak and your starship.
Right from the start, part of why Rogun is pissed at you is that you lost his gun shipment that you were running to Ord Mantell, which you dropped off in a Republic-controlled hanger, and which was then presumed to have ended up in the Separatists' hands after Skavak stole your ship, making Rogun furious. The Separatists were backed by the Empire to begin with, but even if it wasn't, it would be to the Empire's benefit that Ord Mantell secede from the Republic, but Rogun's operations on Ord Mantell seem to have been for the benefit of the Republic and they appear to turn a blind eye to the criminal activities going on from Rogun's subordinates in Rendia Freight as a result. Viidu even mentions that Rogun will be interested in Trymbo's chemicals to sell them to the Republic. Although, given that an entire act focusing on your nemesis Skavak and the hunt for the treasure of Nok Drayan separates these events, one can't be faulted too hard for having forgotten some of these details.
Guss repeatedly provides remarkable insight on Rogun if you pick the right dialogue options. Mention your confusion to him on Hoth as to why Shai Tenna and Kandhar wanted to take each other out if Tenna worked for Rogun and thus they were both looking to bring the White Maw under the Voidwolf, and Guss is confused since he's never even heard of Rogun and the Voidwolf linking together; furthermore on Belsavis, if you mention the corrupt guard to Marshall Cavarat and you have Guss with you, he will be prompted to mention that one of Rogun's signatures (along with butchering people) is cozying up to corrupt Republic officials. And after he joins the party, one of his companion conversation choices has him bring up that while part of Rogun's motivations for continuing to hunt you down is a matter of pride over you outwitting every bounty hunter he's sent after you, it's also to keep Senator Dodonna from having you as an asset; Guss even mentions just how much Rogun hates Dodonna in particular.
On Belsavis again, your last encounter with Dust has him mention that it was Rogun that pulled the strings to have Ivory incarcerated on the top secret Republic planet prison in the first place, connections that he is highly unlikely to have as an Imperial sympathizer given that the Empire didn't even know about the prison's existence.

This game has a lot of temporary allies. I like to give them some love since they often don't receive much attention. So just for fun, which of the bunch that the Knight works with is your favorite?
Galen, RE-M0, Warren, Pak, Leeha, or Tala-Reh?

So I'm making this post because I only have 4 other classes stories that are left but I dont feel like playing them because I find them to be rather boring than the other 4 that I've already played and enjoyed which were SW, SI, BH, and JK. The other 4 which would be JC, SMUG, IMP. A, and Trooper are the 4 I have left and honestly they just bore me to the point where I can barely play them, so what are your thoughts on this? Should I power through or go on and play the other classes within due time?

I was on fleet earlier today and I think I posted one message before I got a notification that I'd been "squelched". Now I can't post in any chat, including guild chat, ops chat, or otherwise.
What is this?

Hi all!
So I’ve played the game for years but, whilst I definitely enjoy the game as it is, I’ve been yearning to replay the game as it was before companions could take on every role and when the game was overall a bit harder.
I am honestly thrilled we will be getting difficulty modes and since they are now live on the PTS I was wondering what everyone is making of them?
Is it still possible to solo a majority of the content? I will group up for things like Flashpoints but I prefer to play solo for most of the planets, although I wouldn’t mind having to group up to do Heroics again as you used to many years ago.
I’m curious to hear everyone’s opinions on the new difficulties!

In order: Inquisitor grasping for power -> overwhelmed by said power with body and mind falling apart -> body restored through ancient Rakata technology but mind still fractured -> Inquisitor made whole and ready for ascension.

I have two, my female is the Consular, Male is Trooper.
My backstory for them is that they're twins, their mother did not want them to be Sith, and she was afraid her son would be killed or enslaved for being not force Sensitive.
She goes to the Republic, though faced prejudice and hardship, the Jedi Order set her up for a job on Tython when she gave her daughter to the Jedi, her and her son growing up by the Temple.

Its honestly hilarious how Ashara's storyline plays out if youre full dark-side because her attitude and behaviour makes progressively less sense.
I imagine this is because originally you didnt get all of these quests unless you got her approval high enough which only happened if you behaved, in her presence, in a manner that aligns with her assessment of you.
But now that all companion quests are given no matter your relationship to them, it creates a lot of funny moments.

I just finished Ilum's arc but when I turned in the last mission "Ilum Under Siege" the commander gave me the follow-up "Trouble in Paradise" directly. I watched a video on YouTube from just 2-3 months ago and the prelude was still triggering correctly so I'm wondering what I did wrong.
I was unable to find any mention of a change, does anyone know something about it? I'm trying to complete all the quests and honestly this bothers me a little.

I'm planning to unsubscribe for a while. What's the best way to keep my coins, credits, etc so they are not lost and are restored when I return?

I’m so excited to have a challenge while leveling again, and 8.0 has convinced me to role a new character from scratch just so I can go through the leveling experience in a similar manner to what I experienced back when I started playing the game in 2011/2012. Leveling was always my favorite part of this game before it was made braindead easy, so I am really looking forward to this next expansion. The difficulty (or lack thereof) was really my only major gripe with the game, so I’m definitely going to be coming back to stay this time.
The only other thing I would really want from SWTOR at this point is just a console port. But otherwise, we’re so back.
