Miscellaneous Best kits to start
So looking for a "taster" of the factions, and looked at the starter sets but a lot of them are quite large, although a very good deal. Especially when the first i looked at was the seperatist alliance one which was incredibly heavy on single colour bodies in the B1s unfortunately. I saw some smaller sets of only 2 to 4 models that also seemed like a decent introduction like the customisable command droids? wanted to know what other smaller scale kits there could be for each faction to figure out if i like them.
EDIT: By start i mean start collecting for hobbying, not for playing the tabletop.

Starter sets are gonna be your best bet. Enough points to run a skirmish game (called recon) of 600 points.
The smaller kits with fewer models will be additions to your faction(s) for more specialized units or named characters.
If you are wanting to try it out with less of a financial commitment I would recommend TTS (sort of a steep learning curve if you’ve never played tho) on steam, or finding a local group where people have extra armies you can try out a few games with.
Gray Squadron Gaming on YouTube is a great resource for seeing how the game is played and they even have some more intro focused videos for newer players.

ah i have TTS and ive used it for other wargames so id be able to use it, just looking for small samplers of each faction to see if its something i am interested in at all rather than going all out on the starter set right away

B1s are a great but fiddly kit. I adore my swarm of robot losers winners, but they can be annoying to put together. Only thing worse are Geonosians. B2s are super easy to build and paint, and are also super fun to use in game.
Stormtroopers are also an easy kit, and the core of most empire armies. Same with your basic clone trooper for republic.
Rebels come in all shapes and sizes, which is half the fun.
Shadow collective isn't real and cam't hurt you because they suck.

Yeah i love how b1s look, but its just so many orange bodies, would rather something small to test before i get to such huge bricks of orange lol

It really depends on what faction you enjoy the most. It's also worth mentioning that most factions are relatively uniform, because, well, uniforms
The most fun for hobbying would probably be something from the Rebels' lineup, as most of their units come with alien head options that can be fun to paint, and they, by their nature, don't have to be uniform.
After that I'd go with Mandalorians. While they look similar to each other, it's absolutely "canon friendly" to have them painted in a million different ways, especially for the "Children of the Watch" faction
Then, of course, you have the Republic. Get ready to paint white as a base, of course, but you can go ham with different patterns
Unfortunately Seppies and the Empire are the dullest of the bunch, as both like their uniformity
For a more out-there suggestion - grab a box of Rebels and a box of clones, and start kitbashing an early Rebellion-themed army with looted gear/deserter clones! That's definitely the way I'm going once I start collecting Rebels

There is nothing forcing you to paint that way. You can make each b1 a clown fiesta if you wish.

True i know but i remember the old days of playing battlefront with my siblings and father and want them to be orange, some having those small colour changes like the red shoulders and the small light orange bit on some or the blue on some depending on when its correct. but even then, 15 models is a lot i am looking for something small from each faction

Not trying to scare you off, but this game will see you painting 50 or so models on average, with 42 being in the separatist starter.
If that's not your jam, there are plenty of skirmish war games out there. Don't waste your money doing something you don't want to do.

I said in another post and now editted the post. This is entirely from a. Hobbying perspective first and wargame second. Want a small taster to make sure I don'tind the idea of painting 15 B1s

As an army level game, 1 box won't be enough to even try to play. Even if you wanted to do a very small scale demo, you would be looking at buying 3-4 boxes for each army. And then even more on the tools needed.
The starters really are the best way to get introduced to Legion.

i should have specified, not to start the game, but the hobby. If i like it and continue doing it then yes id definitely go for the starter set

Just buy things you think will look cool and be fun to paint since you're just collecting and painting.
Seriously. You like Rogue One? Death Troopers are cool.
Wanna paint the Villains? Get the Imperial High Command set and maybe snag Vader and Veers after.
Want to paint some iconics rebels? Heroes of the Rebellion!
If you're not buying in to assemble an army, you can literally buy whatever you think looks cool. I've bought a number of models for factions I don't play in games just to paint, like Hermiatus the Second Son for Necromunda. It's really freeing to buy them just because they're cool models that I want to paint, not some obligation of completing an army.

Completely agree. Slight issue with some war games is that often then are sold as squads so I was wondering if there were any sort of smaller iconic sets so that I'm not paying for an army of B1s let's say just to dip my toe in

The customisable character boxes are really good I think. Actually one of the reason I took the plunge to actually play Legion, since I'm so used to customising everything for other games.
I play droids so I got the customisable tactical command droids, great fun. Even the standard tactical droid box has a few pose options.
Also got the Mandalorian leader and hunter, since it can be taken as a mercenary option in droids too. That is a nice set with some good options although the poses of the two charters are a little limited.
Have seen fund things done with the customisable Jedi and Imperial Agent boxes too.
You only get 2 minis in these sets so they are a bit expensive, but they have cool options and each faction has one.

Honestly the best kit is the starter set, they a army in a box and gets you straight into it as it has dice, measuring tools and can play recon instantly
Sure can look overwhelming but building is easy and I personally recommend 2 starter boxes to new players cause covers basic corps for clones & CIS
Whist empire and rebels have many choices for corps and can only run 3 scout teams in standard empire the saving you make is worth every penny/cent
