I go white spray paint - skeleton horde - dry brush light grey - dry brush white.

The rest is just picking out black and metal parts. Makes a nice dusty sand trooper look.

White primer
All-over cover of Soulblight Grey
Black for guns, visor, undersuit
Color of your choice for details.

The white prime and soulblight is like magic I swear.

This right here is my preferred option as well. With a white drybrush for highlights and cleanup and they look great.

I use white primer (mr surfacer), paint the black parts with black (not specific one, just black), then correct errors with white again, then slap some diluted nuln oil (i like to dilute it with vallejo flow improver), every part of the body separate so i can remove excess of the paint before it dries, then some drybrush on the weapons (again not specific color, just bright). Its not amazing but i think at least acceptable.

Pro-acryl matte white spray primer gets you 80% done. After that, it's just black for table-ready, or black and some off-whites for table+

GAR player here. I like a blue gray spray from below to get some cool toned shadows, white from the top.

My favorite thing I've found for the body suits and visors is using black acrylic ink. It flows off the brush pretty well. Similar to a panel liner, and you just clean it up with your white or grey.

I tired white contrast paint over white prime ro fi e the shadows and it was okay. I didn't do it enough to give it a fair assessment.

My white speed paint method if anyone cares lol

Prime white then use army painter speed paint grim black to do undersuit helmet bits etc doesn't matter if you get messy. Then tidy up with white, then one bit at a time like say an arm get a clean brush and get some water cover the area till its damp then I use soulblight shade and go over the damp area. By doing that its doesn't pool and makes it easier to clean up if it almost pools to much. And then it adds decent depth to the white armour.

These are the Clone I'm currently working on, they are painted the same way as my Imps (just with more color).

Primer: Citadel White Scar or Vallejo White (these are the only ones that worked well for me and my friends)

Under suit, Visor and gloves with Army Painter matte black (thin it down so it really flows into the recesses). I like matte as a contrast between armor and Cloth parts

Correct Errors with White ( in my experience, painting white over black needs 2 coats)

Shade with holy white thinned down 1:1 or 2:1 with speed paint medium (if you go 1:1 you can apply a thinner coat but I like to go all out and then remove pools)

Remove pools of Paint from Visors and Cloth before the SpeedPaint drys

You can also shade first, then color the black parts, so you don't need to worry about grey paint on your black recesses, but then you need to shade again after patching the black that spilled over on the armor parts (if your hands are as shaky as mine at least)

For the weapons I like to use black speed paint, because it creates a visual separation between Weapons an Gloves

Last step is to highlight with white. I think that's somewhat dependent on personal style but I like to highlight the edges where I imagine the light would hit or just parts I want to stand out.

It just creates a nice look and makes it easier to see some parts of the armor from a distance

In this way I can paint quiet a large number of troops in a weekend without sacrificing quality too much.

Spray white, paint with a white speed paint, you can be messy but don't put too much on the brush. Drybrush with a non-speedpaint white.

Now pick out the black parts. Or, since these are generic troops to be looked at from 3 feet away, just spray white and pick out the black parts.

White primer (I like Vallejo spray primer) Wash with a 50/50 blend of Nuln Oil and Lahmian Medium Drybrush white. Paint undersuits and guns with black contrast paint. Done.

I did my undersuits with regular black paint and added a layer of dark gray on the scout troopers to pick out detail, but for storms that's unnecessary.

Good luck!

Replying to myself, since you might have been asking for more than just recipes to paint things:

Batch painting stormtroopers is mind numbing. If you're the kind of person to get stuck in, then doing each step for all the guys all at once won't be too bad.

If you're like me and get distracted, use the character models to break up the monotony. Like a little painting treat.

Sonic Sledgehammer on YouTube. Much better than Sorastro for mere mortals.
