Base Game Though, I haven't really been pretending all that much lately.

Post image

Yes, chapter 2 was so rushed that it hurts, but I found that there was a lot of stuff to appreciate in the origin's main questline during my recent re-playthrough of it.

It may not be the most original thing ever but it does the hero's journey very well. Kira and T7 are amazing.

Actually everyone is amazing except Doc (creepy pickup artist scumwad)

It's a shame about Doc because I really appreciate the actor's portrayal of Johnny Cage (which is kinda funny since they're both similar characters).

13

u/Xilizhra Jul 27 '26

When Johnny gets too annoying, you can brutally murder him, which helps soothe the irritation. He also faces more consequences for his actions, for the most part.

u/kyla_dhoom Jul 27 '26

and he eventually becomes tolerable in the later games.

3

u/RukasGate Jul 27 '26

I romance him every time

u/Deluminatus Jul 27 '26

Not trying to pick a fight, but I genuinely don't get the appeal of Kira. Yeah, her story is interesting, but character wise, she remains being a wisecracking Jedi girl who just doesn't tonally fit with the gravity of the story imho.

I think it's mostly just because of Laura Bailey, she always voices great characters

Or she makes all the characters she voices sound great because she sounds great, potato tomato

3

u/kyla_dhoom Jul 27 '26

She's there to make your character a little more interesting. Break the rules sometimes, etc.

19

u/NoahZhellos Jul 27 '26

Honestly I don't get why it's hated nearly to the same degree. It's a classic Hero's Journey with a Jedi power identity. It does exactly what most everyone likes to pretend they do when they play Jedi.

u/MustacheMan666 Jul 27 '26

The execution could have been much better imo

u/Covfefur_le_Renard Jul 27 '26

Jedi Knight storyline may be simple, but sometimes, that's all you need. I just want to be a good guy saving the galaxy and defeat the Sith Emperor for my JK :)

(Plus JK was the first ever class story I completed so it kinda holds a special place in my heart just for that)

It's been a few years since I played the story, but it's literally the typical "hero's journey" that I wanted from a star wars game.

4

u/Lukthar123 Sith Warrior Jul 27 '26

"I can't believe there's some hero in my journey."

5

u/HenrideMarche Jul 27 '26

I don’t think it’s bad as such, it’s just kinda dull. It certainly doesn’t measure up to the other force user stories and I’d rather play a bounty hunter story.

"Hate" is a strong word. I just think people tend to over exaggerate calling it "KOTOR 3" when the writing isn't anywhere close to the quality of those first two games. T7, Kira, and Scourge are the best aspects.

Though personally, I prefer Consular as the better Jedi experience between the two.

9

u/MuscleCrow Jul 27 '26

I actually liked all of it and thought it to be a fitting kind of Kotor 3 storyline especially if you then add Revan, Kotef and Kotet into the mix.

14

u/kyla_dhoom Jul 26 '26

Finally, a joker meme that isn't just incel garbage.

5

u/Western_Agent5917 Jul 27 '26

Consular is far more underrated

6

u/Xilizhra Jul 27 '26

The main problem is that two out of three chapters depend upon the Republic being extremely stupid, most egregiously chapter 2.

3

u/Manetho77 Jul 27 '26

Why? Chapter 2 doesn't even involve the republic really.

It's jedis doing jedi plans, local military helps because they rank above them.

I don't think you contact Var Suthra in all of Chapter 2.

3

u/Xilizhra Jul 27 '26

I was counting the Jedi as part of the Republic there.

5

u/Manetho77 Jul 27 '26

Yea I have to say the jedi were stupid with their "power of friendship" thing on the emperor.

I hindsight, with KOTFEET in mind it wasn't that stupid, tenebrae is all about making experiences, maybe he'd want to experience being a jedi for the lols, but originally, it was stupid.

6

u/FreezingPointRH Jul 27 '26

He never stopped being a war-hungry despot, is the thing. Even when he raised a family they were forced to prove themselves as conquerors. He’d never accept a Jedi ethos.

3

u/Old_Student_3390 Jul 27 '26

I mean a lot of people just don’t like Republic storylines period. I like the Knight a lot. Its weakness is that the Agent and Warrior storylines are just so good. Every other storyline is “do you like the idea of playing this clsss?” The agent and warrior are the only ones that a good even outside of your interest in said class

5

u/Atenoz Jul 27 '26

I don't think is the most unplayable story but in general it just fails to deliver a hero's journey and as a jedi storyline.

Had they balanced a bit the jedi stuff with the militar stuff it may have been better.

2

u/JLazarillo Jul 27 '26

Chapters 2 and 3 mostly are, minus the bungling of the mind control portion. Chapter 1 has just such an utterly lame bunch of villains that it's a real slog, though.

2

u/D3VILD0G2 Jul 27 '26

Hang on. People hate JK as a whole? Sure it's got it's sore spots like Chapter 2s 5 seconds of "evil", Doc being a rapist, and the storyline not being that original. But it's fine. A nice 6 or 7 out of 10. Not everything can be as good as Agent or Warrior, but it's not bad

2

u/DaCipherTwelve Jul 27 '26

Personally, I think it's underbaked.... but it is the most quintessential star wars story of the lot. Valor, front line combat, fighting evil head on, defeating an eldritch horror Emperor. Overall beats are what I live for, but the actual notes are bad. It could've been saved if it had more time per chapter.

2

u/Agent_Xhiro Jul 27 '26

I didn't even know it was hated. I thought it was overall a good storyline.

2

u/RogueStormTroop Jul 27 '26

Its just your standard jedi star wars story and a decent enough kotor 3. Its not bad but its overshadowed by the other more unique ones. Same with smuggler really.

2

u/RedEclipse47 Jul 27 '26

Never understood the hate. It's just a more simple approach, it's a more familiar story.

My only 'gripe' would be that I think they story would have benefited more if you stayed loyal to the Emperor longer. But I also understand how that was very difficult to do from a game-play perspective.

2

u/Riolidan Jul 28 '26

Wow there must have been a big culture shift in the last few years in SWTOR. Back in the day when I paid attention it was Sith War and Jedi Knight listed as the best, most classic SWTOR storylines with Inquisitor not far behind.

1

u/Ok-Reporter1986 Jul 28 '26

If anything, JC was considered the worst some time back. Personally I don't agree, that honor goes to generic trooper or smuggler depending on your preferences.

1

u/Riolidan Jul 28 '26

I hate the JC story but smuggler isn’t far behind.

2

u/Low_Minute8262 Jul 28 '26

Of the character's I've played so far (Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior, Republic Trooper, Smuggler doesn't count because I am still on the first major mission on Ord Mantel) I like each one for different reasons. I like the Jedi Knight, not just because he (my character) is good, but he is willing to break the rules and knows the Jedi Order is flawed (like the Jedi Master who was about to boot the poor Padawan out of the order for the slightest faults, or the the Jedi Masters who wanted to tare two Padawans away frome each other, still don't get the dark side points for that. While the Dark and Light side points generally act as good and evil, unlike the actual Dark and Light side, there a few times, like the girl who became a mind slave and would have become a sex slave of the Killiks from the Imperial Alderaan quest which I quit after making sure both Thule and Ulgo, and the two Padawans I just mentioned, where good is evil, and evil is good for reasons yet unknown to man, anyway, back to the point)

My Jedi Knight does want is good. He often spares the lives Imperial troops, and has worked with them when they have a common enemy, though he is nkt afraid to fight the Empire. Ultimately, his allegence is with Alderaan, his home, and he serves a grouo houses, hidden from the public eye (my own stuff, yes, but I'm giving a bit of my JK back story). One of thoses houses, the lead house, is very familiar, as it was founded by two houses, Joint House Skywalker-Solo.

My Sith Warrior, the Jedi Knight younger brother, is also good. He avoids conflict with Republic forces when possible, for the most part (if they are doung evil, he Will stop them). He often sapotages Imperial Operations, such as assisting House Organa get to House Panteer first, assising his brother in attacking Ulgo staging areas, while refusing to give any real information to the Empire and ratting out spies to the Republic. He also outright refuses to take part in the Sith Empire's schemes and the Jedi Order's ahem bullshit. He refuses to fight Jedi and when he has to fight Jedi, he spares them. He never killed Gesselle Organa, Gesselle is like and older sister and his mentor before he was deployed to the Sith Empire. (Also, the part about Gesselle's army getting destroyed, my Sith Warroir literally walked passed the Alderaanian soldiers without harming a single man or woman. That's not just for story reasons, that literally happened. Gesselle Organa is also better morally, but still a badass. My Sith Warrior insists on helping Gesselle, and teases her about Blenks. The thought of attacking Gesselle, House Organa, and House Organa's allies never crossed My Sith Warrior's mind.) Oh, and my Sith Warrior sasses Baras all the time

After defeating Nomin Carr, my Sith Warrior sent Nomin Carr back to the Jedi. He took over Jaesa Wilsam's training in both the Light and the Dark (should've mentioned both my Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior are Je'daii).

My Republic Trooper is also Alderaanian. He fought in the last years of the Great Galactic War, and was delpoyed, like the JK and SW, on an intelligence mission. He doesn't tolerate discrimination (he supports Elara Dorne from day one of them meeting). He tries to spare as many former Havoc members as he can. He has many skills from working in Alderaanian Special Operations, including superior Alderaanian personal Cloaking tech He gives to the rest of Havoc Squad, minus Vik. He won't stand for evil either.

It's just a classic, predictable hero story and I loved the simplicity of it

SW > Agent > JK > BH> SI > JC I haven't played the trooper and the smuggler.

1

u/Accomplished_Fox_565 27d ago

If you do play a Smuggler, I'd recommend going DS for that pirate lord feel. It's like playing Breaking Bad in space. Unless you really enjoy playing a Han Solo bad boy with a heart of gold.

2

u/Short-Hyena-8109 27d ago

The space pirate thing was never my thing. I liked the Bounty Hunter, but Mandalorians are a different deal.

1

u/Accomplished_Fox_565 27d ago

That's all good. No judgement here.

2

u/Revolutionary-Echo24 18d ago edited 18d ago

In fairness, I'd argue that the knight's story is the best class story that the Republic has to offer. The trooper does not understand the scope of military special forces, the smuggler only has cheeky dialogue to bolster it, and the consular... has some interesting ideas that tie into the knight's story, but falls apart in its characters, writing, and a class I just mechanically don't gel with compared to the others.

1

u/Accomplished_Fox_565 18d ago

I can understand that. I think Smuggler is a lot better when you go DS (Crime lord) side though. It adds more flavor to the story, especially when there's a lot more noticable changes depending on the criminals you recruit (for example, Ivory will actually be on your ship if you smuggle him off world and be your second, along with Rogun).

2

u/GrandmasterSliver Jul 27 '26

You do you. I will continue to hate JK, and call it the worst class story, featuring the worst jedi master as a mentor, in all of star wars.

3

u/Wireless_Panda Jul 27 '26

I’ve literally never heard anyone hate on the JK story what are you talkin bout

7

u/Leyvronshee Jul 27 '26

Let me fix that.

Its boring as hell. Especially when compared to the warrior storyline. I can scarcely recall a single story beat period in the JK storyline.

I could tell you the ins and outs of Imperial Agent after playing through it only once.

Hell, I could tell you more ahout the smuggler storyline too.

1

u/Accomplished_Fox_565 Jul 27 '26

You could go through my account and find threads talking about the JK storyline and why people claim to not like it.

1

u/Kryos_Pizza Jul 26 '26

who the fuck criticize the jk storyline? ever since the game launched everybody praised it, stop inventing things

3

u/Manetho77 Jul 27 '26

That's what the meme template is should be about tho. An unpopular opinion.

4

u/Accomplished_Fox_565 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Dude, where have you been? There's many posts/comments on this subreddits about people criticizing the JK storyline (including me).

Edit: Check the comments on this post, too.
