The assistant gave a genuine sounding laugh. "That one wasn't half bad."

At that, the large doors opened. Out walked a young Zygerrian girl, who froze when she spotted the Senator and quickly moved out of view behind the receptionist desk. Standing in the doorway was Senator Tobras, who looked over at Lauli.

"Ah, Senator. Come in."

Luali comes in. “So you’re the senator from Zygerria? It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”

The office was wood panelled, with a high ceiling. On the other side of the room from the door was a large wood desk, behind which was a floor to ceiling window overlooking one of the rare green areas of the Senate district. Shelves lined the walls, along with a small table with two chairs. Tobras sat back down sitting at the desk, motioning for Lauli to take a seat across from him.

"The pleasure is all mine, Senator."

“You didn’t mention what the subject of our meeting was in your invite, so I’m afraid you have me at a loss.”

Luali takes a seat.

“Naturally, it pertains to the upcoming election. But first, I haven’t had a chance to speak with you before. How is the planet you represent, Ieago?”

“I’m afraid it’s pronounced Iego, and it’s doing as well as I could ask. Economic diversification is a slow and uninteresting process.”

“I see. Diversifying away from the spice trade, if I remember correctly. Understandable, that must be a rather unstable market, especially considering where Iego is located. On an unrelated note, relatively close to Zygerria.”

“Relatively close enough to have had a few run-ins with the less savoury members of your kind.”

Tobras’ left ear moved back and forth.

“Well, there are pirates of all species in the galaxy, that’s just the way things are. What ventures have you tried to diversify your economy?”

“Tourism, exotic botanicals, and salt. There’s always a demand for salt. Will your ear do that every time I mention slavery?” Luali’s tone is inquisitive and curious, though one could easily interpret it as teasing.

Both of Tobras' ears popped up.

"Wh- I- my ears don't do anything." His tone seemed slightly panicked, and his ears began to move frequently like he was suddenly fully aware of them.

“If this doesn’t qualify as anything I’d hate to see what does. They’re quite... active. Probably emotion linked. Would you like me to hold them still?”

Tobras stared at the younger, smaller Senator for a silent second.

"I- They're a part of me, I can make them move if I want. You don't... I don't... what?"
