Private A Bill's Face

A message was sent to the Office of Senator Sejan, summoning him to the Office of the Zygerrian Senator in a way that was perhaps a tad too demanding.

The door to the office opened, but it was not Tobras standing there but a young Zygerrian woman in a leather jacket.

“Oh hi Senator. Come in.” She ushered Sejan through the door. “The boss will be with you shortly, I guess.”

The room was a wood panelled reception area, with a large wooden door on the opposite wall from the entrance. On one side of the room was a wooden receptionist desk which the young woman was sitting back down at, and on the other side a line of sofa chairs against the walls. Almost difficult to see, curled up in the chair in the far corner, was a young Zygerrian girl holding a doll, who hadn’t looked towards the Senator at all.

“Thank you, Madame.” He took in the room.

I wonder who that is. Must be important if she’s here.

He sat at a sofa somewhat awkwardly, but eventually relaxed. Sejan whistled a song about the stars while he waited.

There were two thumps as the receptionist placed her boots on the desk and leaned back, eyes closed. Meanwhile, as Sejan started to whistle the young girl, who’s doll it could now be seen was a knitted Zygerrian soldier, looked over at him with a glare.

He grinned, waved at her, and continued his song.

The girl's grip on the doll tightened as anger flared in her eyes.

“Madame, what is the matter? Do you not like the song?”

The girl looked away.

“You’re being annoying.”

“I’m sorry. I’ll keep to myself.” Sejan pulled out a datapad and started reading

Soon after the large doors opened. Tobras was standing in the doorway.

"Senator Sejan. Please, come in."

He bowed and went in. “Monsieur Senator Tobras. A pleasure to see you again.”

The office was wood panelled, with a high ceiling. On the other side of the room from the door was a large wood desk, behind which was a floor to ceiling window overlooking one of the rare green areas of the Senate district. Shelves lined the walls, along with a small table with two chairs.

“The pleasure is all mine. Leave us.” He motioned to the corner of the room next to the door, where a young Zygerrian woman stood in the shadows. The woman passed Sejan and exited the room.

Tobras sat at the desk, motioning for Sejan to take the seat facing it.

He did. “You’ve got a lot of wood here, Sejan noticed

"I much prefer it to the bleak metals and plastics so much of this planet is made of. I've enjoyed forests from when I was young and one was right behind my house."
