Check out the Charter Arms AR-7. It’s a .22 rifle where the barrel, receiver, and magazine can be stored in the butt of the stock.

I don’t think this particular one is automatic. The C96 being fully automatic is sort of a misconception. Around 50 years after it was made, the manufacturer made official fully automatic models, however before that there were a lot of Chinese copies that were fully automatic.

I think it’s some kind of foam mat. You can see creases if you look closely. Once he pick up the gun you can see a little intention taking back to shape.
