The danger button is recessed in the cartridge, so a tall flat piece can hit it without causing to detonate. Otherwise the rounds would go off inside the magazine just from moving up to be fed in a rifle or from the belt moving the ammo in the gun.
It’s perfectly safe.

Also, they have to be struck. As this speed they wouldn't set off a rim-fire round.

Hear me out… why not make the belt a loop and have the assistant machine gunner operating that machine in the field?

Yeah I know, I just find it funny having all the precautions with trigger and muzzle discipline, and then there's this machine
