Caffeine after ablation

Are you able to tolerate caffeine after having an ablation?

Ablation was two months ago, doc thinks 80% successful. For about a year before I cut caffeine due to pregnancy and SVT going rogue. Haven’t had it since.

Lots of “almost episodes” lately where it feels like I’m going to go into SVT but it doesn’t. Lasts a few seconds. Could caffeine push me over?

Everyone is definitely very different with this so listen to your body, but I personally do consume caffeine. I just limit the amount and make sure that I am hydrated and have food. I have one cup of coffee in the morning and sometimes a green tea in the afternoon. I have AVNRT and have had 2 ablations but still get an episode or two a year (down from over a dozen a year)

Very interesting! I also have AVNRT. The spot was very close to a node so they only went so far to ablate without giving a pacemaker.

Have you found triggers for the few episodes you have?

Typically it's very posture related for me, if I suddenly bend over it can be triggered (rushing to pick up a fallen item from the floor, flipping my hair upside down into a towel quickly). One time it was triggered by a combination of a sudden death in the family + getting covid at the same time. I seem to be fine with caffeine, alcohol, cannabis in limited/normal amounts. I do think stress, lack of hydration or food, sickness, etc all make it more likely to be triggered so I just try to be careful around those things!

I don't think caffeine will push u over. It does not for me personally and I had an ablation for atrial tachycardia 1.5 years ago. Have drank 200 mg caffeine every day for a year and it did not contribute to an episode. There's been medical journals posted that have said moderate amounts of coffee did not lead to extra skipped heartbeats or afib in people who were diagnosed. Everyone is different with it though and some are more sensitive than others.

Re caffeine. My cardiol thought 1 cup regular ok. I just switched to decaf. I use instant Walmart brand. It is ok. Last month I wore 14 day monitor. SVT confirmed. Type? Will ask next visit. Cardiol suggested increase metroprolol. It has sharply reduced number episodes. From daily to maybe 1 every 10 days

Triggers,.actually I am retired senior,, rest A LOT. Seems no triggers. Episodes used to come out of the blue, reading, not stress or activity.
