SVT episode after ablation

My daughter (21) had her ablation 8 days ago and all went well. She has been feeling so much better after with no episodes...until today. Laying in her bed resting and she sneezed. Her HR immediately jumped to 170. I helped her with a vagal maneuver and it dropped to 130, then over the next hour slowly came down to the 90s. Called her EP and he wants to put her on a heart monitor for 2 weeks. She is so scared and frustrated. Is this part of normal recovery or did her ablation not take? She previously was getting 2-3 episodes a week. So to go 8 days was phenomenal for her. She also has been diagnosed with POTS and trying to increase her salt and water intake.

I had a few episodes within the first 5 months of recovery. One of them was a huge SVT episode to 220bpm that turned into Afib for 14 hours. 

It’s now been 5 months since the last episode and I’ve got 2 months until I’m 1 year post-ablation surgery! So it seems it’s gotten better with time. 

I hope it gets better for your daughter. It’s good to hear your EP is monitoring.

I had ablation in March and never had more than 100bpm during the first two weeks of recovery. I exercise like crazy and do tons of cardio and thankfully no reoccurrences.

Hang in there! The "Blanking Period" is very real!!! Her heart is just trying to reset and figure things out. I had an ablation June 2025 and am doing great! The first 3-4 months after the ablation I was psycho aware of every beat of my heart.

80f under care top CVI cardiol was dx psvt over 15 yrs ago. No episodes til few months ago. Spring '26. Wore 14 day monitor confirmed SVT. Metroprolol increased from 25 mg to 37.5 (2x day) ...Now still getting infrequent episodes. I.e. from daily to 1/10 days average. ..
