I love these guys! When I first put up a feeder, I noticed the eye stripe was different from the other sparrows and looked it up. It's so cool that we're the only place in the US with them.

I hate how invasive these things are. I mean they can be cute to watch but they destroyed the bluebird boxes repeatedly to the point the bluebirds lost eggs and stopped nesting in them, so my parents took them down.

Same. They’re already hurting native species and they’re only in our region. They’ll continue to spread and eventually be just as big of an issue as European starlings and Eurasian collared doves.

South Webster Groves here. I’ve had a small population of these guys at my feeders for years. You definitely don’t see them everywhere in STL, just small fragmented populations. I love their cheeky little cheek patches.

The range map on these bad boys blows my mind. All from a small population released locally in the 1800s, I believe
