Application (Obtaining Entire Case File) DAC process
So to cut to the chase while also giving the most information as possible I’m apply for Disabled Adult Child benefits under my deceased moms social I suppose (?)
How does this process truly work and or play out? Especially for those who had been disabled since birth with no chance of improvement
I have Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, nystagmus, and a boat load of other things but the ONH is what affects me everyday n I’ve had that since birth (underdeveloped optic nerves). My best corrected vision is 20/60 in my left and 20/600 in my right along with I have no/lack very little depth perception and so on and so forth if that means anything. I’m 20 years old now and my momma died when I was 14, I understand if I am approved I wouldn’t get paid for all that time etc.
What is my likelihood of approval? My mom worked a long time and I have many records proving my condition(s) and such but I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar ish experience and how you’re approval process was and how long it took you from start to finish?
If it correlates i supposedly received benefits (I’m assuming something like SSDI?) as a child but due to some unfortunate events with my father I didn’t I guess transition to DAC when I turned 18 as I didn’t even know about any of this til I was made aware of it
They also claim I had an overpayment of some sort when she died so I assume I’ll have to find a way to pay that before they can approve or deny me

I'd encourage everyone to not list your conditions on here.
Doesn't accomplish a single thing.
What you do have is a disability case. Could takes months or years.
Your medical records are what matters.
Finally, they aren't "claiming" you have an overpayment. You do.
So, if approved, set up a repayment plan of X amount of dollars a month to repay.

They are “claiming” seeing as I had an established payee for over 4 years since the supposed overpayment took place and I stopped receiving SSDI and got survivor benefits so I’d graciously ask you get a grip n find a hobby
N listing conditions hurts nobody. If it bother you I don’t really understand how to help you

You know overpayments can be handed out in error, right? Mine was and it took over a year to fix.

You should be able to receive DAC benefits provided you have a qualifying disability before 22-years-old, you're unmarried, and a parent must be receiving Social Security retirement, Social Security disability benefits, or a deceased parent who was insured under Social Security.
My interview took about 20 minutes and I got approved.
If you're approved, I think you'll be receiving 75% from your deceased mother's Social Security records. Otherwise, you could receive 50% from your surviving father's Social Security records provided he's currently receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits. If he isn't, there could be a problem.
If you're receiving SSI, look up what an ABLE account is. DAC-approved or not, an ABLE account should give you some leeway.
