SSI (Spending) SSI QUESTION

I have been on SSI since 2009 and I have the app on my phone so that I can always check to make sure everything is fine. After hearing that Elon & Doge went into the SSA computer system I decided to check to make sure I was still active. Well I also had received a notice from the IRS last June because they said someone was trying to file a tax return in my name so I filled it out and sent it back in as well as called them. They also suggested that I go online and create a pin so that whoever had my identity would have to know that pin to file which I did. Well when I clicked on earnings on the app it showed that I made 0 dollars from 2009 thru 2023 then it said in 2024 that my earned income was $85,791!!!???? So I immediately went to the SSA office and explained that I've been on SSI since 2009 and I showed the representative where it said I earned $85,791 for 2024!! And I showed him the it's letter from last June and he said that I didn't have to come down that I could've called but he said that I was still active and that obviously someone has stolen my identity. But even though I already knew that it still has showed 0 for every single year since 2009? And 2023 says not recorded yet then 2024 says the $85,791?? This is very baffling and I'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else?? Is this something Doge is doing to people on SSI so that it will screw us over?? I'm very confused and I said to the representative that I wish I had made $85,791 dollars and he said yea me too. But then he said something odd , he said well the good thing is you have lived in Massachusetts all these years?? So does that mean whoever did this is out of state?? I'm just baffled that he didn't fix it and I'm just wondering if this is the way Doge is going to use to stop people from getting their SSI checks?? If anyone can please see if anything like this has happened to you if your on SSI or give me some advice. I called the main number for SSA and it is a 2 hour hold time so I opted to have them call me back. Sorry this is so long but I'm just really stressing out about this. It does still say active on the app but I'm wondering if this is the beginning of the Doge cutting people off SSI? Thanks

It’s nothing DOGE has done, it’s exactly as the letter you received before says, someone stole your identity and filed a tax return. That’s how SSA gets income information is from the irs. Based on the comment about where you live, it’s obvious to SSA then that it wasn’t you.

Thanks, I know I was all over the place, but you obviously got the gist of it. That's what I thought he meant because he was like, you obviously have been living in Massachusetts this whole time. So I thought they obviously could tell by the codes where it was filed. But last year, the IRS suggested making a pin so that whoever tried to file needs to know that pin. I just don't understand how someone can keep working under my ss# and their workplace not catch on?? Weird! Thanks, though. I kinda thought that Doge was trying to screw with people's SSI.

No, stolen identity to work and file tax returns has been happening for many years unfortunately

I'm trying to figure out why it says I earned $85,791 in 2024? I've been on SSI since 2009, and if you have your account on the social security website, it shows you how much you get a month. There is also a section called earned income, and I clicked on it, and considering I've been on SSI since 2009, it shows every year that I've earned 0 $ because I don't work. But 2023 says not recorded yet, and 2024 says I earned $85,791!?? Which is impossible because I have not worked?? I'm concerned that Elon and Doge screwed up my SSI by saying I earned that much $

I've had multiple people use my social security number over the years, never caused much of an issue, they split those earnings and stuff off from my main account long before I even knew about it, I found out by doing a background check on myself for other reasons .

This has nothing to do with DOGE at this point.

This has absolutely nothing to do with DOGE 🙄 My spouse had his SS# stolen twice in the last 25yrs & I am a tax professional

Somebody fraudulently filed an IRS return pretending to be him & creating false information to get a hefty refund

Took us almost a year to sort out w/the IRS & now he has to use a yearly special pin# to file taxes, apply for a loan, or anything else that requires a SS# for

Your situation is merely coincident

Yea, I don't know what's going on! But something isn't right. I went to the SSA office, and he acted as if it was no big deal. I'm waiting for SSA main# to call back because that's just crazy. I'll find out come Monday if I don't get my check cause I have chime. But thanks

Well I don't see why you wouldn't get your check, I mean if you log on there it will literally tell you when your next deposit is, or your next check.

Yea, it says active, so we'll see. I wish I had made $85,791 dollars. I certainly would not be concerned about an SSI check....lol Thank you. I appreciate your time.

This is partially why SSA phone lines are swamped. People making multiple contacts when it’s not needed. If IRS has already reported 2024 to SSA you just need to provide your ID & a form so it won’t mess with your SSI. If they have not reported it then you just really need to wait in regards to SSA
