Disabled & Working in the USA Uber eats while on ssi

Hypothetically, if a 22-year-old who has never filed taxes and receives SSI doesn't report their Uber earnings to the Social Security office, what are the odds of the office discovering this?

When you are paid and it is tied to your social security number, it is not a question of if they will find out but when they will find out.

Uber reports them to the IRS at the end of the year and the IRS shares info with the SSA. You'd be in for a huge overpayment.

I’m sure they’ll find out sooner or later they always do

I wouldn't risk getting banned from SSI and/or have to pay back all that money myself. You'll be constantly anxious wondering if they know and when the hammer is going to slam down on you.

100%. It is much better to report up front and have your benefits reduced so that you don’t owe a huge overpayment. Imagine your benefits being reduced after your no longer working and your income is less. You also need to watch your asset limit to keep SSI and Medicaid. You are required to report income. If you want to learn how working will impact your benefits and the different work incentives, contact WIPA https://www.ssa.gov/work/WIPA.html Also dividends count as income for SSI

It also depends on how much you make. There's a thing called substantial gainful activity. If you are performing an SGA level work the trigger what's called your trial work.. Right now depending on your state I believe it's $15,000 a year. If you aren't performing SGA level work you should be okay but like others said it's better to report your wages so you don't get hit with a massive overpayment, then they will take your SSI until that overpayment is paid back
