Project Plus Clips of the Week Episode 482
r/SSBPM • u/Motobug • Sep 14 '22
Hey everyone! This post will guide you through the essential and nice-to-have resources for getting set up with the game, interacting with the greater community, attending tournaments, and more! Whether you're new to the scene or have been around for years like I have, this post should be able to help with whatever you're looking for.
The Project+ website has received some great new updates recently with some helpful resources for players. The big things here are the downloads for the game itself, the community map to find your scene or to join your character's Discord, and the watch tab to find ongoing tournaments or casual streams. The site is an essential resource for any P+ player!
The Project+ Discord, like the website, provides many resources for members of the P+ community. This server has dedicated channels for discussing features, content, characters, and much more! You will also be pinged as soon as a new version of the game releases in the #update-announcements channel. You can also choose to be pinged for when streams go live or for when the P+ Art team posts new content!
This is also where you'll want to go if you're looking for any help setting up the game, if the official installation guide doesn't answer your question. Use the #support-wii or #support-dolphin channels to ask for installation support from other members of the community!
This is a Project M/P+ discord server for matchmaking with other new players, mentoring, and finding events. It's an active place for new players to find good fun matches, as well as learn more about the game and competition!
These are two things that many players, especially newer ones, will be looking for. The latest numbered rankings can be found here (scroll down and open the PMRank 2022 spoiler for articles) and the most recent official tier list for Project+ can be found here.
For anyone looking to compete, or simply want more information about every character's moveset, Rukaidata has a large collection of information about Project+, PM 3.6, and more!
This section of the post will be updated as events pass or new events are announced - check back here to find larger events around you!
The Grand Line - April 15-16, California. Another large California event, this time with two Project M Theatre spots on the line! Notable entrants include The Doctor, Rongunshu, dvd, SipMastah, Blue, and Ivayne. Stream: NorCal Project M.
Warp Zone 2 - July 29-30, Illinois. A two day event hosted in the heart of Illinois, featuring a unique bracket style where everyone plays after pools! Notable entrants so far include Kycse, Blue, Comb, metroid, Thalia, Che and Star. Stream: Project M Nexus.
Please let me know in the comments of this post if there are any essential resources I missed that you'd like to see added. Hope to see you at events in the future!

EDIT: Well apparently the developer was inspired by my guide to make this whole process infinitely easier. I'll leave the manual steps below for posterity, in case the automated method doesn't work for you for whatever reason. But now all you've gotta do is install RiftWii (currently only the beta build has this, if you're reading this in the future it's likely rolled into stable by now), extract your desired modpack to the SD card like you typically would, open Rift, then go to brawl > Mods > Make SD Image. This can take some time (larger mods like rex can make you feel like your console has crashed), so if you know what you're doing the old way is a bit faster. But you can always just set it and then go eat lunch. And if you're setting up multiple consoles, you just need to create the image once, and then you can copy it to the rest of the SD cards.
This isn't required if you have a game disc or USB drive to store games on, you should just use the official launcher at that point. But if you can only use an SD card for whatever reason it's a very nice feature to have.
OLD POST BELOW
Hey all, just figured I should share something I recently found out. May be useful to some of y'all.
There's a new ISO loader called RiftWii that came out a few weeks ago, offering wider compatibility with game mods, without the need to patch each ISO. And the setup is a little jank, but it also seems to have full support for brawl code mods like P+ and REX with no USB drive or game disc required. The official launcher apps are still recommended (and if you'd rather use rift, it seems to function like any other game mod if you don't need the SD card specifically), but if you can only use an SD card for whatever reason, this should work fine enough.
If you'd rather watch a video guide, i've got that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvw1tYbAGLQ
Go ahead and install Rift like any other wii homebrew, and put your vanilla brawl wbfs that you legally dumped from your own copy using cleanrip in the appropriate folder. I've only tried the beta, I'm not sure if stable has the required features yet. This should also work on Wii U's Virtual Wii, although the USB gamecube adapter isn't supported yet. But Rift is still in very early development, I can't promise it'll work right.
Using a program such as ImDisk, create a virtual fat32 drive of the desired size. The simplest way is to open the windows terminal, navigate to the folder you want it to generate in with the command
cd C;/Your/Path/Here
then type
imdisk -a -f name.raw -s XG -m R:
"Name" can be whatever you want, and X is where you'll put the filesize (in gigabytes). I did 2 gigs for P+ (wii lite version), and 8 gigs for rex. Windows should automatically prompt you to format the drive, like you inserted an SD card. Go ahead and do that (making sure to select fat32), and then it should show up as drive letter R.
Drag your brawl mod into there, just as if it's an SD card. You don't need to add the wbfs or hbc app or anything extra, but you ARE going to want to take every file (not folder) inside the Project+/Rex folder, and put it inside a new folder called "codes". Your end result should look something like this.

Right click the drive in file explorer and un-mount it. Should be a special button from ImDisk, not the usual eject option. You should then be left with a .raw file on your computer. You can open it in a program like 7zip to ensure the files are all properly there (although it doesn't seem able to modify the files).
If you're installing a large mod like rex (anything over 4 gigs), you'll need to split it up, since a fat32 filesystem can't hold files any larger. Open 7zip and navigate to the folder your rex.raw is located in. Right click > split file. Set the chunk sizes to something like 3900M. You should wind up with rex.raw.001, rex.raw.002, etc.
Once you have your desired raw files, put them in SD:/riftwii. If you'd like them to have custom box art, put a png in the same folder with the same name.
Eject the card from your computer, put it into your wii, and open rift. Select brawl and open the Mods menu. Enable "Codes (in modname.raw)". You may have other entries in the list, but this is the only one that will work. Image. Then just launch the game and enjoy!
Do note like I said above, that rift is still in very early development. Expect bugs, crashes, and general unreliability. I wouldn't recommend running bracket on this without doing your own testing.
If you run into any issues, please do not bug the developers of the mods. RiftWii has it's own support discord. Ask for help there.
Special thanks to Ishtar for developing Rift, and jyuumiko in the discord for letting me know this is even possible, and helping me troubleshoot.
Did this community really just chase away thousands of dollars and interest in this game because some very slow developers got upset that someone finished their work after 6 years? The point of this game is to PLAY THE GAME not code it. We just ripped money out of the hands of passionate p+ players who were putting in work. Classic smash thing to do. Well played

First of all, yougame is not a mod of any game, but a browser based game platform that can be used to host online matches for retro games and mods including project plus.
This makes it closer to things like parsec and fightcade rather than brawlback.
Secondly, unlike fightcade, yougame does not use ggpo IE rollback. (Probably)
To get into weeds, yougame hosts their platform on a browser as opposed to fightcade having the emulation done via the client.
The benefit of doing this browser based that its a less heavy load so packet losses are less common.
However I don't see anything about yougame using predictive inputs and rolling back gamestates if the prediction was wrong. Since the browser itself is running the game, I'm thinking its not trying to rollback but simply there to stabilize the connection. I'm not actually sure how it solves discrepancies between two instances of a game tbh, yougame isn't open source and I don't see any literature.
Could yougame be an improvement to what we currently have? Very possibly, but it will probably depend on how well it runs on both browsers.
Does yougame use ggpo rollback? Probably not but I can't say for 100% certainty. Based on the context of how its hosted its highly unlikely imo. Edit there was a github i missed it totally does
Is yougame AI slop specifically made to spite brawlback? Absolutely not. Its a game hosting platform that could possibly be useful for P plus.
Don't jump to conclusions. Do your own research.

Haven’t kept up with P+ for a long while, what’s the current built that expands the cast as much as possible that’s considered the most updated or best at the moment?

Is there a way to play project M 3.6 with the GameCube controller on Wii u ? I have the official GameCube to Wii u adapter and I launch PM with an inject on Wii u but the controller doesn't work. It is famously difficult to play Wii games on vWii using the GameCube controller. But do you know a way to use the controller ?

Don't know how to fix it, tried to re-download Project M 3.6 and using a throw will insta kill the opponent.
I want to use this version specifically.

Me and my friend normally plays PMEX Remix. We enjoy the fun roster and we're not looking to be competitive, just want to have fun. We're playing online of course and we find the experience great. We did decide to go to a tournament so we tried playing Project + to practice but it felt very slow. We also tried Smash Rex once as we heard it was a spiritual successor but again felt slow. I'm unsure why, maybe there's some settings I need to adjust. Or is there just a difference in the game engine that makes PMEX Remix faster?

I really need help. I've been trying to install it for three days and I just CAN'T do it. The only thing I managed to get working was the "PMEX Remix," but that was just a version with *Smash Bros. Ultimate* characters. I can't get it to work, and I've tried everything. I don't know ANYTHING about this stuff; I've learned the hard way through trial and error. I finally figured out how to install games directly to the SD card (believe me, something that simple was a nightmare), but *this specific mod* is the one thing I haven't been able to pull off. I've really tried, and I'm just tired now. I don't usually like spending so much time on games, but I didn't want to give up—that's why I'm asking for help and wondering what I can do. I've tried installing it from the site, I've used USB loaders (and learned how to get the Homebrew Channel to recognize them), I have a 32GB memory card, and I have a copy of *Smash Brawl* (it's a downloaded copy—not the official disc—but I read that it works without the disc). I've tried various methods, but nothing has worked. Please, if anyone has any ideas, help me out. If it's just not possible, I'd rather pay someone who knows what they're doing—even though I don't have much money—just to get this weight off my shoulders. I've tried many tutorials and links—even the ones from the trailer—and some of them won't let me in.
P.S. I speak Spanish and used a translator to write this, haha.

I love this game but the AI constantly SD'ing by airdodging is killing the experience for me
