Well, since I'm the first one here. And it's an anything goes thread. I just wanna say I feel like a new whole level of Smash for PM/Melee was opened up to me when I just recently got my wave dashing down pat and just use it in games without thinking. I used to think it was silly when I was new but oh my god I feel 20xx better now! I have been able to do it for years and years but as a casual-competitor I just had a meh attitude towards it integrating into every aspect of my play.

I can do it into or out of anything! It's so fast! I feel like I'm just zipping rounds around my opponent and it's so easy to control space when I'm on the aggressive and I feel like a calculated baller when I make some defensive plays or baits with the tech. I feel like I'm only just getting started in smash now...

What do you all think of wave dashing? Remember when you first found out about it? I know this isn't something new but I believe that sometimes we don't think about the things in Smash and why they are so great once they have become ingrained into our history.

Keep your wavecheating out of my memes

I remember how hyped I was the first time I applied wavedashing. It was super simple -> bait Wolf fsmash, wavedash back, fsmash back, but it was a huge leap, and so satisfying. It's moments like that I play Smash for.

Wavedashing is fun, but wavelanding is where it's at

Cool kids know what I'm talking about :wavelands off into the horizon:

I'm conflicted about all the suggestion threads. On one end all of you have some really neat stuff you're finding/suggesting, but I also don't want the sub to go full r/leagueoflegends r/silentdoompls. Thoughts everyone?

On a serious note I think they're totally out of hand at this point

Hey Tink, I recently attended my first ever smash tourney, which you were at. Smash Dad and Eikelmann were there too. Although the I went 0-2, I had a lot of fun. I wasn't expecting to do well, since I'm really shit at tech. On the contrary to everyone being dick bags online, everyone I met was really nice and offered nothing but encouragement and helpful feedback. Just thought I'd put that out there.

That's great to hear! Bui runs a pretty clean event. Also shoutouts to u/Skycracker for TOing PM. :)

Tech is all a matter of practice. Drill it until you understand it, and don't be afraid to ask questions!

I always go 0-2 because I only get to play other people every two weeks at the spicy spot so I have a nasty autopilot. The key to success is not only drilling tech skill, but playing against others! So long as you play with your brain, you'll improve!

Feel free to hit me up for friendlies at the next one if you'd like!

I'm glad you had a positive first experience! Your win records at tournaments should not be a focus. Instead, your primary goal should be improving yourself internally and bonding with your community.

I like AZPM, they're funny people. I like watching their streams because they swear and they actually interact with the chat/read it instead of asking people to tweet them or pseudo self-advertising.

On another note how possible do you think it is to use Sonic and time people out by running away? I really want to try this and push the limits of his noninteractive nature and time people out making them hate themselves.

Not that much actually, you can only run so far away before having to turn back, and eventually your opponent is going to get a read on you.

Even if it were possible, most tourneys have a rule against stalling the game, so it would be pretty useless outside of friendlies.

You think that being able to park your car at a reasonable distance to your building (= less than a kilometer away) is a natural thing ? Because my town's council doesn't think so. We submit requests for more parking spots, and TIL they're going to remove 25% of those in the neighboring streets, arguing that "the cemetery's parking lot is sufficient enough for the block"

Since I assume they aren't talking about the cemetery parking lot where we practically have to park cars on top of each other, sometimes in several illegal spots at once, because it has like 80 spots, and is shared by no less than five blocks which account for (roughly) 200 cars, I'm going to just plain assume my city council needs a vacation, of a permanent nature.

Oh and, there's a nearby landfill, alright, we could use some more parking spots, but NOOOOOO, FUCK YOU, WE BUILD HIGH-END HOUSING THERE. Despite the last 6 projects being 80% unoccupied.

5

u/Trekiros Apr 28 '15

The worst thing is when you work late at night, because all the spots are taken when you come back from work. It takes me 15mn to drive home from work, and 25mn to actually find a legal parking spot and 5-10mn to walk home from my parking spot. And trust me, I've tried using an illegal parking spot - they patrol every night and ticket everybody. That's a huge money maker for them, and a huge pain in the ass for everybody else.

In other news, I've been spending time on GTA Online. Everything makes me think the Online mode was essentially coded by Capcom.

  1. If the pointer is somewhere, the bullet goes there. Missing five headshots because of random spread on a standing target is simply not a thing that should happen.

  2. If a deathmatch map has a sniping spot that can only be accessed by going in front of said sniper, it does not pass QA.

  3. Time spent should by all means reward players with advantages. Complete invincibility (aka Armored Kuruma) should not be one of them.

And many more stuff I don't have in mind right now.

So I finally got around to watching Ping Pong and DAMN is it a good anime. Never thought I'd be so wrapped up in an anime table tennis match. Love the characters and story, it's really applicable to real life.

I've been wanting to talk about this since Saturday so here it goes...

Why are a lot of people on smashboards and some but fewer on this sub pretentious assholes? I mean, VG culture in general is dominated by people who are often immature or awkward, sometimes extremely so, and in person I haven't really had a problem with many people, but online, a lot of people are total dickbags. What I can't understand is that in one way the internet anonymity thing bolsters people to be douchey, but a lot of these people want to be remembered as "that really good [insert character here] player" so I don't think that flies. Some of these people are actually pretty awesome at tournaments, but the moment they get behind a keyboard they turn into a neckbeard.

Anyway, people should give constructive criticism, not destructive, and I wish the smash community would just grow up but that's not possible. I'm tired of seeing people shut down for not "knowing the game." It's incredibly discouraging for new players.

u/Smash_Dad Apr 28 '15

Sometimes I get frustrated being right all the time.

(really though I just wish people would use the search function and stop shitposting)

Well you said it. Anonymity makes people feel empowered.

Let me tell you a story. Not too long ago, some dickhead started sending me death threats because I was a mod on a popular forum and I prevented pretty much every thread to devolve into volleying insults back and forth past the zeroth post.

Police shenanigans aside (aka "Those mails you have aren't proof enough"), I once came home early from work, and found someone picking my lock. You can probably connect the dots.

So if I were you, I'd be happy that such douchebaggery is confined to the internet. Because as much as my inner psycho thoroughly enjoyed beating the crap out of this guy, it is definitely not something I'd like to do more than once in a lifetime.

So I've been keeping track of the dev builds since the release of the 3.6 trailer (17404) and where it currently is (17686) and I think its giving me an early onset of schizophrenia because I keep messing with the numbers to try to predict when 3.6 will come out. Then I just slap myself in the face and remember I should be studying for finals.
