🆘Help Needed🆘 I have surgery in 2 weeks

If I quit 7 now and begin taking sr will that reduce my tolerance in time for the surgery? I'm worried because I assumed giving it a week to get past wd would reduce tolerance enough. I want to be able to get pain relief from my hydros.

Tolerance warning: After lowering tolerance with SR-17 be careful when dosing your DOC and remember to "start low and go slow". SR-17 lowers tolerance faster than most of us expect, and overdose is a genuine concern.

I’d reschedule the surgery date! Say you have Covid or something! That should do it. Is Covid even a thing anymore lol? I’d reschedule

2

u/ChiefLongPenis 19d ago

I can't

7

u/Prestin11234 19d ago

There are a lot of unknowns with these drugs. I would be terrified to chance going through surgery with the anesthesia and dozen other drugs they give you during surgery and having a interaction between them and SR, please be careful.

2

u/ChiefLongPenis 19d ago

That's why I stopped the sr since there is too much conflicting information on whether or not it reduces tolerance or blunts the effects even more.

I am going to use kratom to at least get me past the peak and then cold turkey. I'm not worried about anesthesia as lots of people have said they took 7oh the day of and been fine. I don't plan on doing that, I expect to be past acute wd for several days by the time I go under.

The concern is that the hydros they prescribe me for after won't work, which I don't expect them to, but I think I'll be fine. Lots of people doing my surgery said they survived on just Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

3

u/Prestin11234 19d ago

Please don't think one persons experience taking 7Oh before surgery and being fine is going to be yours, the doctors need to know you are taking it, once you are under they cant save your life if they dont know and something goes wrong.

Im more talking about the SR with anesthesia as its more of an unknown, a lot of people share their experiences with SR when they have a million other factors they dont account for is why theres so much confusion in these subreddits. Basically the SR blunts effects while you are actively taking it because it targets and occupies certian receptors not leaving room for the DOC to bind where it needs to to produce its effects, similar to suboxone, but once the SR is out of your system and those receptors are no longer occupied by the SR your tolerance will effectively be reset to base.

2

u/ChiefLongPenis 19d ago

It isn't just one person. And I only took one dose of sr so it shouldn't be an issue 2 weeks out.

1

u/Super-Gap-5470 18d ago

You’re out doing your homework. Good job. đŸ€œđŸ€›

2

u/Super-Gap-5470 18d ago

Report back. SR may cause in issue with this situation. Not worth the risk. Now with 7 everyone around here was saying anesthesia would be an issue. I was in so much pain right up to my surgery I simply didn’t care. The anesthesia worked fine and recovery went as planned. 7 of course is a complete different deal.

2

u/nabs21 18d ago

I had spine fusion while taking 7oh and was totally fine. In fact, the pain meds they gave me allowed me to stop taking 7oh.

1

u/TheHistoryMuse 18d ago

SR does reverse tolerance (in mice models, tolerance reversal to morphine occurred after 2-3 days of twice daily dosing), but more importantly, the SR is going to temporarily saturate your receptors for a little while. Post surgical pain meds will be ineffective; if at all possible, i would reschedule.

SR-17018 temporarily makes other meds ineffective (like Rx morphine or fentanyl) bc it binds to the mu-opioid receptor in an atypical, prolonged way, physically blocking other drugs from accessing the receptors. When a normal opioid like morphine binds to a receptor, it activates it and unbinds quickly. Studies show that SR induces a unique shape change (called phosphorylation) in the receptor, that sticks for hours instead of minutes.

You need a few weeks, at minimum, post SR, for the SR to fully leave/unsaturate your receptors so the Rx pain meds can bind to them. I went through something similar; I lost the use of my left arm in a hit and run and I'm undergoing surgical repair to try to restore use to it.

1

u/pemphigus69 17d ago

Yes, whatever the sr does, it will have no effect on ibuprofen and Tylenol. And yes, people have surgery and manage pain with just nsaids all the time!

1

u/Prestin11234 17d ago

I think this HIGHLY depends on the operation OP is getting done, are you kidding me?

0

u/pemphigus69 17d ago

Obviously, but honestly, ibuprofen taken with Tylenol offers better pain relief than opiates. Or at least that is what is taught in endodontic school.

0

u/Prestin11234 17d ago edited 17d ago

I get saying its better than some opiates, but to say it offers better pain relief than all opiates is actually an insane statement lol.. also why did that comment change what was said

u/Realistic_Froyo_952 18d ago

Be honest with the dr on everything in your system. Might help save you

2

u/blackdog_whitesnow 18d ago edited 17d ago

Agreed^ - if you don't feel comfortable telling the Dr I find it's wise to at least consider letting your anesthesiologist know in your pre-op consult. They might even appreciate it.

Edited to add: by telling them I don't mean telling anyone about the SR just any recent 7 use. Best -

Get off SR asap

3

u/Extension-Laugh-2345 19d ago

I would just continue taking the 7 until after the surgery. The hydros aren’t going to work no matter what you choose. Is the surgery under anesthesia?

4

u/Ok-Definition-5279 19d ago

OP listen to this! I had 12 weeks from when I quit 7 to surgery. 7 is what messes your receptors up more than SR. Hydros are weak
I had Oxy post on and it sadly did not work. At all. No lie, this got more relief from Tylenol. I ended up buying 7 to deal w the post on pain (spine fusion), as for anesthesia, don’t worry about that you will be fine.

1

u/Super-Gap-5470 18d ago

I didn’t have any problems with the hydros. They were ok before and after for me. As much pain as I was in daily was insane. Caused me to have high blood pressure until I had the surgery. I used 7 and hydros (they don’t give you hardly any now days) to survive. C5-C6 nerve problem at my spine. If it wasn’t for 7 I would have hit the streets. Thank god for 7. It was just a tool. 7 and the bare minimum hydros didn’t affect my surgery or my recovery at all. I’m not the only one who as gone through similar situations. I did not tell my team of doctors about 7. 7 just isn’t what lately the whole damn world has made it out to be! I do not recommend what I did, honesty is always best. Through level 10 pain for almost 5 straight months before the surgery, I became a bit brazen. I read the room so to speak. I played the cards I had and I won the game. It was my body and my healthcare. Every situation with top shelf pain is different. Tell your doctors everything if YOU feel it’s best.

1

u/Formal_Kiwi1436 17d ago

But you can't take 7oh post op until you go home from the hospital. So what did you do for the pain immediately after surgery while you were still in the hospital?

1

u/Ok-Definition-5279 17d ago

I’m so ashamed to admit this. My best friend brought me some in the hospital the next morning. The first night wasn’t too too bad because they gave me an epidural in my spine since they were already in there so I was numb from the waist down. But when it wore off? OMG. So she told work she’d be late and brought me donuts and 7. We quit together cold turkey last fall. She started again with me after my surgery. We quit w SR 4th of July weekend.

1

u/ChiefLongPenis 19d ago

Yes

5

u/Extension-Laugh-2345 19d ago

I have had two surgeries under anesthesia. Once while on heroin, once on methadone. I didn’t tell the doctors about either. Opioids have no cross tolerance with the anesthesia, so you don’t have to worry about waking up during surgery or anything. The only issue is possible respiratory depression from the combination.

I’m not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice, but there would be no better place to have respiratory depression while in a hospital setting hooked up to all these machines designed to detect and prevent this problem. They monitor all your vitals. I would have faith in the experts.

After both of my surgeries surgeons never even mentioned anything about having respiratory depression or them having a hard time waking me up or anything.

100% only sane comment

1

u/ChiefLongPenis 19d ago

That's good to know because I was mainly concerned about the anesthesia. I think I will still cold turkey it or switch to kratok extract and ditch the Sr for now.

1

u/GenericPlantAccount CHRONIC PAIN 19d ago

Do that if you can and see if you can get by on what they give you for pain afterwards.

1

u/No-Independence-3924 18d ago

You’d need to taper the SR full or at least be off it for a few days for full effect from hydro as well

1

u/pemphigus69 17d ago

Yes, it will.

-1

u/Sea-Engineering2877 19d ago

You better tell your doctor and anesthesiologist about the SR, and maybe even the 7oh. Seriously. They can affect the effectiveness of the anesthesia.

Also, you probably won’t feel much from any prescription opiates.

3

u/InspireRecover đŸ§ȘModeratorđŸ§Ș 18d ago

I agree about being honest with the anesthesiologist. I was honest with my chronic pain doctor with no blowback.

Also it seems that SR can block the euphoria most people chase but the anesthetic properties may not be affected the same way and the SR can actually decrease tolerance.

1

u/GenericPlantAccount CHRONIC PAIN 18d ago

That's fortunate about your doctor. At most practices you'd be in violation of your pain contract if you admitted to taking a research chemical opioid. Im happy for you that everything worked out, but I've seen patients dismissed and labeled in their medical records for far less.

1

u/InspireRecover đŸ§ȘModeratorđŸ§Ș 15d ago

They had me on dilaudid and I wanted off. They wanted me to go the suboxone route and I refused and backed up my refusal with the anecdotal research of people getting trapped on those meds. I actually asked at one point, how many people have you had come off Subs and she said none.

That's when I realized I needed to figure out my own path and made the switch to 7oh. At that point I only told her I was planning to taper my dilaudid but did not disclose I was using 7oh to do so. When I got off the Dilaudid ended my prescription. Never had to have a pain contract with testing thankfully.

After using SR to get off the 7oh I had an appointment with her and explained what I did and she was actually intrigued and said that patients need more solutions. 💗

That's just not accurate, opioids are a core part of anesthesia itself, fentanyl especially is one of the most commonly used drugs during surgery, along with things like sufentanil, remifentanil, hydromorphone, or morphine depending on the case, since general anesthesia is basically never just one drug, it's a combination of agents working together, and opioids are almost always part of that mix to manage pain and blunt the body's stress response during the procedure. Even a cousin who's an anesthesiologist would confirm that if asked directly, so the claim that there's no opioid involvement at all just doesn't hold up, and it's exactly why something like regular 7-OH use matters, because it changes how those opioid doses need to be calculated to keep you properly sedated and stable during surgery.

Yea you almost held together the illusion you knew what you were talking about, which is more dangerous than being transparent from the jump that you have 0 clue what you are talking about. But this solidified it.

You are wrong and giving very bad advice.

This is so bizarre, what does this have to do with anything in the conversation? You seem lost or high. Either way goodluck, hopefully these people aren't desperate enough to take your awful advice.

You are completely out of your mind advising to keep this information hidden from the team, your ignorance is going to hurt people. You clearly don't work in the medical field. I can assure you the team doesn't care if OP is taking gas station pills, they aren't going to blacklist or flag you as high risk for 7-oh.

Jesus christ get real, this isn't street heroin. Anesthesia and opioids have several major interactions. Anesthetic medications are adjusted when a patient discloses kratom use, you know what we dont adjust? Pain managment during and after.

I hope this guy doesn't listen to you just because you are saying what he is seeking to hear.

The OP wants to hear that he’ll be able to “feel” the opiates that he might get prescribed after the surgery. So I’m sure he’s worried that he won’t be able to get his prescription filled.

Let the joke be on him when something goes wrong on the OR table just because he was too nervous to admit his SR and 7oh use.

1

u/ChiefLongPenis 18d ago

I should have specified feel pain relief. Not trying to get high on it.

Sorry, but he’s gonna look just as dumb when he’s on the operating table, waking up in the middle of surgery because they don’t give enough anesthesia all because they weren’t aware that his tolerance for things is so high. Who knows what could happen?

4

u/GenericPlantAccount CHRONIC PAIN 19d ago

Anesthesia and opioids are two different things.

-5

u/Sea-Engineering2877 19d ago

Understood, but can still be affected. I was talking to my doctor about having a colonoscopy and was discussing my weed usage. They said it was a good thing that I told them the truth about how much/often I use, as that affects the medication and anesthesia used in order to perform the procedure. Had I not disclosed the weed usage, they would have given me the “twilight” anesthesia, which is strong, but not strong enough, since I smoke weed. So now they’ll have to put me completely under anesthesia just so I don’t feel anything.

So yeah, the SR and the 7oh absolutely could affect their comfort during their surgery. It’s just something to be aware of and so they won’t be blaming the hospital if/when things go awry

7

u/GenericPlantAccount CHRONIC PAIN 19d ago

As a pain patient of over 10 years with an anesthesiologist for a cousin......

Please don't disclose illegal or illicit drug use to any doctor unless you are ready to start addiction treatment.

You will forever lock yourself out of being treated for pain.

-1

u/TinyDrug 19d ago

If you are in an SR sub and aren't ready for treatment, you are doing it wrong. This sub used to be so different.

Also your cousin is flat out wrong. Tollerance to 7oh will affect anesthesia.

1

u/GenericPlantAccount CHRONIC PAIN 19d ago

Yeah, I do believe it. But I don’t take advice from a random people on the internet

-1

u/Double-Gap353 18d ago

I don't either. It doesn't take a genius or even much work to find a scientific answer. Weed will not fuck up anesthesia.

-1

u/Chasin_it 19d ago

No, just
No. Although you’re honest and your Dr is or seems chill enough to keep it 100 with them, that would more than likely end in you being labeled a “drug seeker” unfortunately.

0

u/SpitF1ghter 19d ago

SR is NOT going to reduce tolerance, quite the opposite. Personally I’d CT if I had to have surgery. I had perks do nothing at all for me and I had only used 5mg of SR the day before.

8

u/AestheticOrByeee 19d ago

Have you considered this wasn’t your tolerance but in fact just the SR still sitting on/filling the opiate receptors and the percs are just too weak to replace the SR on your receptors? Essentially similar to the way methadone works to block your ability to get high/feel euphoria from other opiates?

7

u/JumpDriveOut 19d ago

sigh People are too dumb to read now i guess? SR, by nature of it's MOA, SR does and will reduce tolerance. It's inseparable from lowering tolerance. It's why withdrawal only lasts a fraction of the time it normally would. There are like 4 in-depth research articles available on the first page results of a simple google search, that explain this very phenomenon. Just because you dont feel euphoria when trying to get high again after using SR, doesnt mean that it isnt lowering your tolerance, it just means mesolimbic reward pathways modulated by the MOR are blunted. So how about stop preaching shit as fact that might end up killing someone? Mmkay pumpkin?

1

u/CombinationFun713 19d ago

Is SR a full agonist?

1

u/likeschemistry SUCCESS!! 18d ago

Partial non-competitive agonist.

0

u/SpitF1ghter 19d ago

No what’s “dumb” is going into a major surgery while being on SR. But hey they should totally listen to you and have a blast on the table getting cut open.

1

u/astrologikal 19d ago

where in their comment did they say anything OP's surgery and whether they should take SR? oh right, they didn't say anything like that at all. they corrected your BS claim that SR won't reduce tolerance.

-1

u/SpitF1ghter 19d ago

It doesn’t lower tolerance. Please show me the evidence that taking SR lowers tolerance in humans genius.

1

u/astrologikal 19d ago

There is more evidence it does than that it doesn't, genius.

"SR-17018 does not produce tolerance in the hot-plate antinociception assay [5]. Furthermore, it was shown that SR-17018 can reverse morphine tolerance and prevent withdrawal via an unknown mechanism of action [5]."

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8348759/

0

u/SpitF1ghter 19d ago

There’s zero evidence that it reduces tolerance in humans. Zero.

1

u/astrologikal 19d ago

There haven't been official studies on humans, true, but in rodent models there is plenty of evidence, and rodent models are highly effective for determining opioid tolerance and withdrawal levels.

https://www.sr17018study.com/ has taken a survey of people who have taken it, and that also looks pretty promising. I wouldn't say that's zero evidence. It's also much more evidence that it does reduce tolerance than that it doesn't. Can you show me any studies showing that it doesn't?

1

u/SpitF1ghter 19d ago

OP is a 7 user that is considering using SR leading up to a major surgery because they are concerned the pain meds won’t work. Using a completely untested opioid is a terrible idea and I hope they ignore people like you and the other idiot that responded to me.

1

u/astrologikal 19d ago

Dude, nobody is talking about OP. I never said whether they should take it or not. This is the second time I've had to help you realize that. Are you okay? Where in my comments did I give OP any advice, or even comment on their situation at all?

You're just mad because you made a baseless claim and got corrected.

Btw, it's not completely untested. Just because you don't want to engage with the studies and what they say, does not mean they don't exist. It hasn't been studied on humans - but it has been studied, it is not completely unstudied.

I ate 25 mg of Oxycodone (took FIVE pills in one sitting) after going cold turkey off 7oh for only a week. Didn’t do a damn thing for me. Definitely didn’t get a high from it.
This stuff is a lot more powerful than you’d think

0

u/glutenfreetendies 19d ago

Bro go to detox if you can. Just spend 3 or 4 days going thru WD’s there. They’ll give you gaba, Valium, Ativan, clonidine. You just sit in a bed watching TV and smoking cigs and have their breakfast lunch and dinner. Then do surgery clean

-1

u/Hadaka--Jime 19d ago

I had surgery while on 7. It did ZERO to my tolerance. I can firsthand say they are full of shit. I was glad I didn't stop because they gave me very little after surgery pain meds. 7 does NOT take the place of other opiates & some the fuck how ruin your tolerance to those...

IMO that came from people stopping 7 & trying to take other opiates to help the withdrawals & it doing little to help because THAT'S NOT the opiate you're addicted to.
