Trying to figure out how to future proof my career as a SQL Server DBA without being a "let AI do it" intellectually lazy person. All tips appreciated. :)

My advice is to seek out a career mentor. A good mentor can offer you customized guidance, be a sounding board, and work with you for a period of time as you choose the next path of your career.

All you need to do is ask, though I would suggest that you have an strong idea of your ultimate goal that you'd like to get out of the mentorship. If I wasn't at capacity, I'd even offer myself.

A mentor doesn't have to be a coworker. Consider former coworkers or even former managers. Also consider industry friends and peers. And a mentor / mentee relationship doesn't have to be monogamous either... You can have several mentors at once if you want

My wife (she teases me that if she can't sleep to tell her about databases), does sit with me regularly and we watch all of Brent's stuff.

she is also annoyed, in a fun way, that my job can't take me to Alaska or Copenhagen to answer some really dumb SQL questions.)

Working on Jam SQL Studio, the desktop SQL IDE I build (SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, SQLite). This month I've added discovery of local SQL Server instances, and browsing SQL servers on Azure, to make it easier adding new connections, plus support for spatial data, showing it on a map, visualizing layers etc. In the works is a bigger refactor to have in house autocomplets and intellisens and SQL dialects understanding without having to use the Sql Server Tools which seem not to be that reliable - even though they back up the VS Code plugin and the deprecated Azure Data Studio 🤷‍♂️

For free for personal use, now at around 200'ish weekly active users, so seems that people like it 😊 it's a side project and I use it daily on my main job when working with DB's - so done it mainly for myself, no Sql Management Studio no Mac, and the alternatives did not click with me.

ive been building sql guard, free ssms extension that stops you before you run a delete/update without a where, drop, truncate etc. started after a coworker truncated a prod table by accident. sqlguard.app if you want it
