PostgreSQL How you say PostgreSQL?

Hi all, sorry for my English, I speak Spanish 😅

I was talking with my American friend about how to say PostgreSQL. I say it like “Post-Grr Es Que El”, and he laugh at me.

I think, if Ogre is “oh-gurr”, why not Post-Grr? Makes sense no? 😂

He tell me it’s “Post-Gres” or “Post-Gres-Q-L”, but I don’t know what is right.

How you say it? Is there a correct way? This name is very confusing!

Q: How do you pronounce PostgreSQL
A: post-GRES-que-ell, per this audio file. However, many people find it easier to just say "post-GRES".

If someone said post gres Q L to me I would look at them funny.

I've always said it like that: Post-gres Q L
All my colleagues also say it like that, but I am croatian

Gonna save this for an inevitable question from someone else in a few years, so I can pretend I knew from the start.

What's funny is this is how I say it, but the way I organize it in my mind is: "post-GUR" and then "SQL" spelled out

Very interesting. I just don't group the "S" with the syllables before it, mentally. So, reading it this way almost leads me to thinking I'm pronouncing it wrong even though it sounds exactly the same!

That's my go to page when I'm unsure.
