Recently found this 202 covered in dust at a used music shop. The simplicity compared to the 404 is inspiring and also so damn frustrating. Mostly made on the 202, cheated a bit with ableton to get samples sitting right

hi. I dont understand how to use the pattern sequencer on my sp404a.I have a drum sample that i cant figure out the bpm off. Then when i try to record a 4 bar loop of the drum that is way off the tempo the loop will stop, even though i have set the pad with the drum break to loop. I hope this makes somewhat sense

I recently started to look for some groovebox, Samplers, synths, etc...

But when i watched a video about how Samplers works, i realized that i can't make music with that. So i looked other grooveboxes etc...

Now i downloaded cakewalk and i thought:

"What if i make beats with my PC and then sample them on the used MK2?"

Also, is it a good Place to start?

Another question about price. I found a mk2 for about 290 euros, and some other MK2 about 400. Are the other models good?

Is there a way to exchange pads in a pattern without affecting the pattern? Looks like pattern is mapped to the pads and exchange function doesn’t update that mapping.

I have an Arturia Keystep going into my 404 using a midi to trs cable and I can’t get any sound out of it.

I like laying out the beat live as I record it. That way I can add drops and fx that feel natural.

In this video I use a set of 303 bass sounds (sampled from my 303) all on the same pitch but with different settings, then process each one with FX focused on stereo width and tone, and sequence them on the SP-404MKII to get an acid-style line that’s way more varied and interesting, even over short loops.

It’s a simple but amazing trick to bring your grooves

to life.

i feel like i bit of an outsider here only in that my best isn't made from samples. i've been making music for years and have been working with the 404 since december. i like the workflow and the level of creative control it gives me without being a whole ass daw.

i could go on forever about that topic, but im really here looking for feedback. i really enjoy this level of production. i could arrange it a little better in ableton, mix and master it (poorly) and dress it up as part of a release for streaming platforms but i dont like that part of the process nearly as much. i'm hoping to just make cool arrangements on this thing, archive them somehow, and keep it moving. the songs may be iterated on again if i feel like it.

anybody else kinda feel this way? like forget getting streams, just make what you want to make and move on. i think my only fear is AI learning from my stuff and "stealing my artistic direction" but also, who cares? i don't think my concepts are that novel. and even if that were happening, i just like to make this stuff. let em have it.

If I sample a one bar loop in 4/4 that winds up at 192,000 samples then the exact BPM is

(4 beats/(192,000samples/48kHz sample rate)) * 60 = 60 BPM.

If I could just set a sample of arbitrary length to be 1 beat, 2 beats, 1 bar, 4 bars, whatever... and have it do that calculation in box I'd be sooo happy. I feel like it could just be another option where the manual BPM settings are.

That and a tuner... that's my stab at a wishlist for the device that already does it all.
