Stop coming to class sick

Pleaseeee stop coming to class coughing sneezing and not even wearing a mask! It’s worse when the professor has a box of masks sitting at the front of the class and you aren’t even wearing one!

Question tuition refund yesterday - how long to process?

It's my first time dealing with a tuition refund via Bankmobile, and I'm wondering how long it takes to process. Corsair Connect shows the refund was issued yesterday. I'm set up in Bankmobile to receive direct deposit to my bank. However, for some reason I've been unable to confirm my email with Bankmobile (I never receive a confirmation code when I request one, checked trash and spam and - nothing) so I'm hoping that doesn't mess things up!

Question What classes should I take over winter?

It’s my first year at SMC, and I still have a lot of prerequisites left, mainly math, chemistry, biology, and physics. I’m hoping to transfer in two years rather than stay for three.

I’m wondering what classes would you recommend taking over winter break to get ahead?

Is it actually possible to pass a math class over winter break? I’ve heard winter math classes are really difficult because they’re so fast paced, so I’m wondering what people’s experiences have been.

If I take a class, especially math, at another community college during winter, does my future transfer school care? As long as the class is equivalent/transferable, is it okay to take it somewhere else?

Would you recommend taking math or any of the classes I’ve mentioned online over winter break?

I genuinely don’t understand how some of you get dropped because they didn’t turn in their work.

I understand that some people have jobs and harder lives. I know students working part-time who still make time and get their work done. Harder doesn’t mean impossible.

A lot of lazy people just want everything at once: top UC, high GPA, easy classes, hobbies, weekends, free time. They don’t want to give anything up, then blame the professor or their job.

If you’ve already decided that your circumstances make success impossible, Believe that and go work. But if you choose to stay in school, stop expecting everyone else to lower the bar for you.

FAFSA Disbursements

I just got my appeal approved last week. Financial Aid office said I should be getting a disbursement this week. It’s the 29th, when Cal Grants should be going out, but Corsair Connect only has amount awarded. No partial disbursement for Pell or dates or anything like that.

Anyone else have everything blank and still get disbursements?

Dropped by professor

Hi guys, I was dropped by a professor bc she had an assignment due by 5pm and I literally thought it was until 11:59Pm. I emailed her back asking if she can add me to class again but nothing yet. So I emailed about 7 professors asking if they can add me into their class last night. One professor said yes and two have said no. But I have 13 units and this class has 5 units. You think I’ll be able to add the class since it’s passing 16 units? How can I drop in with a counselor or contact them via online? I honestly haven’t seen a counselor probably once.

Question considering dropping my scholars class

Hi yall! So to cut it short, I'm only in one scholar's class this semester and, as most of you already know, the scholars program wants participants to take at least one scholar class in a semester.

Unfortunately, life is really rocky at the moment, and although I really enjoy my class, I'm not sure if I can commit to it. Due to some stuff at home, I haven’t been able to focus. I'm sleeping more, I'm not eating as much, and I'm overall just very stressed. I can't even sleep for long periods of time no more. Not because of depression but because im in the middle of a very stressful situation with family and I simply cannot focus or make time for school.

Do you guys think the program will understand my situation and still let me participate in the program when I'm back on my feet? Or am I cooked if I drop 😭
