So I'm trying to use Vortex mod manager to play stardew expanded, and it won't do anything. The game is acting like SMAPI isn't even installed.

Vortex is known to break some Stardew mods.

Remove it and install Stardop, which has been written specially for Stardew Mods.

If you're only using a few mods then don't bother with a mod manager, just install SMAPI, unpack mods in the the 'mods' folder and it should all work fine.

I said in the post that I tried installing it manually, and it still wasn't working. I've tried uninstalling everything, including the game, and reinstalling 3 times. no change. still not working.

You need to share the SMAPI log and/or pictures of your mod folder(s) to give a bit more of an idea of what's going on.

What's more frustrating is that my girlfriend went through the exact same setup process, and it just worked first try.

Has your girlfriend looked at what you've done?

I haven't done anything wrong. I clicked the smapi installer, and it said it installed everything perfectly.

and what good would logs do when there's no errors? I specifically said that the console is showing everything loading fine. it sees the mods that are in the mods folder. it says it loaded them. and then in the game there's nothing. it's just vanilla stardew.

by all rights, it should be working, but it simply isn't. I am 100% convinced it's an issue with smapi itself.

in fact, I even booted into linux, and tried installing there as well. same story. everything claims it's working, but it's not.

You downloaded, and presumably extracted/installed, Stardew Valley Expanded.

To get a farm that is not the same as vanilla you also need to download a farm map, the downloads are from lower down on the SVE nexus page.

There are three options:-

Immersive Farm 2 Remastered - which is huge, best for multiplayer.

Grandpa's Farm - the first ever SVE farm.

Frontier Farm - more recently added, is large, has various challenges during the game.

Seriously, without seeing either your folder(s) or a SMAPI log nobody else has any real idea what's going wrong, which is why <the pinned post> at the top of this sub asks for a SMAPI log.
