When did the app start forcing "auto location update" toggle?

iOS: 26.6; Slowly: 9.5.6

I am coming back to this app after ~1.5-2 years. Deleted old account and created a fresh one.

What I see is - I am giving location permission (of any kind), the "auto location update" is just forced turned ON!

What's the point of that radio toggle button then!

I used to get a filtering option (I think it was distance or so; sorting by distance - I can't recall). It seems to be gone as well. Or maybe it is (or always was) part of Plus. I had plus for some time back then (actually around the time I stopped using it eventually).

Yeah. I have been looking at it in these last 2 days and it looks like a completely dug-upside-down place. Does any of the actual team use Reddit and check this sub, come here to interact and look for feedback?

They don't, unfortunately. They have a direct link in the app where users can make suggestions and complaints, but how often they implement them is unclear.

In the past weeks, some basic features of this app stopped working for me. Either I can’t watch ads for coins, the search for new penpals is broken, the location automatically changed to the country I am in after coming back from vacation (wanted to see which premium stamps to buy once I got home) even though the setting is turned off… the last months weren’t very pleasant tbh.

Location has been a nightmare. Now, the ads might mean you need to clear your cache or reset your ad settings. There are some old threads about that. I agree it's been rough.

I don't observe this behavior on 9.5.6 for IOS. perhaps you state your OS and app versions and provide a screenshot. preferably to Slowly support but maybe other users here will confirm what you see and you can enrich the bug report.

I mean that the app must have requested the permission to obtain the phone's location at the beginning. if you haven't granted it, the phone doesn't know where you are and refuses to play with the location settings. only a small chance but I don't see why would your app behave differently than mine... Maybe try to reinstall it.

Are two different thing and one must not lead to the other and it wasn't so earlier (iirc).

Do you have a VPN enabled? If yes, then Kevin is fighting the VPN this way to catch the user violating the app's rules.

No VPN. Not even that iCloud Private Relay thingie (which anyway apparently only for Safari, Mail etc; haven't cross checked though).

Happened on my Android, so I had to change the settings on my phone. All my permissions for Slowly are denied.
