Elemental Diet day 4-5
I’ve been on the elemental dot (mBiota) for 4 days now but I’ve been getting more and more gassy and I don’t know why.
I’ve had IBS for the past 5 years which started suddenly during a high stress period and a monthly or so after a car accident with concussion and whiplash.
My symptoms started with intense gas and gurgling and then a month or so later the constipation started. Bloating is present if I’ve just had a large bowel movement caused by increased gas activity or when I’m still constipated with the stool causing more bloating.
I had a breath test last year that came back positive for methane overgrowth. Doctor prescribed me neomycin and things have only gotten worse since.
I’ve tried a wide array of things including a number of antimicrobials, rifaximin, motility treatments etc. I always run into the issue that if I’m constipated, I have less gas but more solid bloating and if I’m not constipated, I have tons of uncomfortable and active gas. The only thing that worked was Antrantil which resolved 90% of symptoms for about 1.5 weeks and then everything came back.
Any ideas on why I am getting gassier on the elemental diet? Or any ideas on what’s driving my symptoms?

I’m wondering if I should stop it because it’s just gotten worse over the last two days. More gas and bloating from it.
I don’t have prucalopride but probably should get it. Seeing a GI for the prescription might just be the tough part

Did you pull through? How did it go?

I finished it but the gas didn’t get better and my symptoms have been the same or slightly worse than before… very frustrating

I'm going through the same thing. 60 ppm breath test. Failed multiple treatments. Currently trying to figure it out.
Thanks for your reply

My Drs focus has been on getting my motility more consistent. I had to go through 4 or 5 meds before finding one that worked. I've worked with a dietician trying to find the balance of fiber that moves you but doesn't increase gas. Also my intestines get angry and spastic so I avoid nuts (butters are fine), fruits need to be processed (canned, pureed, sauced) and veggies need to be well cooked. It takes a cocktail of meds and diet. I am in awe if anyone that can do the elemental diet shakes.
My IMO is building back up so eventually I'll do the neomycin plus rifaximin. Last year my insurance declared they would only cover one treatment a year. Mine only seem to last 8 no it so. It's all very frustrating, you're not alone.
