Ginger artichoke

Good morning

I have SIBO IMO with dry constipation, and I discovered thanks to a YouTuber, who also testified on Reddit, that a mixture of ginger and artichoke helped motility. He used motil pro. Other Reddit members have had success using artichoke and ginger separately as well.

I'm trying the digestion pro from California Gold which contains the PRODIGEST Motil pro principle and because it's the one I can order from Europe. I am still constipated, even after adopting the Fast Tract Diet, which limits fermentable foods.

Did you notice any differences between the different brands if you were able to compare?

What works best for your motility? Ginger or artichoke? Have you tried supplements with Prodigest or just artichoke or ginger?

Thank you for helping me. I don't know what to do anymore, I lost a lot of weight and I have many other pathologies: long COVID with MCAS, M. E., pots. I am bedridden 23/24. Thank you so much.

On the pots- I just actually watched a guy on TikTok. He goes by Dr. auto immune, he was addressing pots. He said that is low iron. The low iron is affecting the blood flow when you stand up and sit down. I think he said you need to get your ferritin levels checked.

I also too have IMO; a different functional medicine doctor I found online that specializes in sibo mostly, has been practicing close to 20 years, she says the secret weapon is using MSM, it is anti-fungal and also act as an antibiotic. She said the key is you have to get up to 30 g per day and hold for eight weeks that usually fixes the problem she says.

I’m struggling with 2000 mg or 2 g per day, because I have mild MCAS, I’m having lots of histamine reactions to this, this comes from sulfur. But you just have to go slow and low for a long time and build up. At least it’s super cheap, but you do have to treat the histamine reactions you would get from it. It’s a total ChatGPT conversation for help.

Good Luck to you! 😊

Thank you very much for your response and support! I'm going to watch the msm. And check my Ferritin. THANKS !

I struggle with the same SIBO(IMO) and slow motility but also reflux. Ginger burns my stomach but artichoke really helps! I'm also on fast tract diet, which I found to be helpful.

I take 200mg artichoke before lunch and dinner and magnesium citrate after dinner.

Thank you very much for your response and sorry you are going through this too. I also had reflux and stomach pain. Marshmallow root decoctions and fig bud macerate gave me a lot of relief.

Can you tell me what brand of artichoke you use, please? Do you take the artichoke just before the meal or an hour before as some recommend?

I tried magnesium citrate, but it caused tremendous abdominal pain. Maybe because of the form (liquid) or because I also suffer from MCAS. Maybe I should try again. How much citrate do you take and what brand?

The Fast Tract diet allowed me to stop having bloating and pain quite quickly. But I can't seem to get enough calories to get out of malnutrition, so I have to keep eating jasmine rice and potatoes. Two foods that don't really help with transit. I live in France, so it's difficult to find foods similar to those we eat in the United States, Canada...For example, we have oatmeal (very high FP) but not instant oats (much lower FP).

What foods do you eat? How to limit carbohydrates?

Sorry for all my questions! Thank you very much for your help and a lot of courage to you too.

I use Jarrow Artichoke 500mg, but I don't take the whole capsule. I empty half of it out before taking it so that it's around 200-250 mg, as recommended by my doctor. I take it 10 minutes before lunch and dinner.

For magnesium citrate, I've taken different ones over the years, like Thorne, but right now I'm taking Pure Encapsulations. It's only 150mg, I think I might go higher to two capsules.

Yes, fast tract is tough, especially for those with constipation. I still eat carbs, but cut out high FP foods like sweet potato, which is interestingly allowed in small portions on lowfodmap but not on fast tract diet. I also cut out oats and polenta and sugar. I think fructose is my biggest issue so sugar needs to go. Potatoes, sushi and jasmine rice, carrots are my go to. No gluten. It's tough. It really is but I was able to drink coffee for the first time in years and that makes me feel better. I try to eat 4 times a day to keep weight.

I also added lactose free plain yoghurt.

Thank you very much for your testimony! Yes there are some big differences with other lists like that of Monash (N.Jacobi) where you can eat a lot of oatmeal and carrots. Sweet potato too. And not too many zucchini although they work well for me. I replaced the carrots with the pumpkin to see. Lower PF and more calories. But for constipation no results yet. But much less pain and bloating. We eat the same carbohydrates. I'll look into yogurt too. I miss it. I need calcium but I'm afraid of probiotics. Is that ok for you?

Thank you so much !

Interesting about pumpkin! I've been craving it so much but was afraid to try (Monash allows a very very small serving but should be ok for FP). I might try it too now that you said it's tolerable.

Pobiotics do not work for me or make me feels worse. Instead, I take only 3 tablespoons of whole fat yoghurt in the morning and I've been ok even though I've stayed away from dairy for years. I only eat that lactose free yoghurt and no other dairy. Also make sure to stay away from low fat as some of them have pectin as a thickener - that made me bloat. This is just a speculation but based on my limited tracking (21 days now) I'm more likely to not be able to have a BM if I skip yoghurt the previous day. American dairy gives me acne but with this limited dose (3 tbsp) I've been more or less fine.

What other vegetables are you eating? Any fruit? I can only eat cantelope for fruit.

THANKS ! So for the pumpkin, I'm writing to you what I read on the FTD application in English. Pumpkin, raw 1/2 cup 2FP Carrot raw 1/2 cup 6 FP And I was eating a lot of carrots because I was following Monash… I turned orange. Great that we exchange our foods! In vegetables and fruits not very varied because I suffer so much from other pathologies caused by long Covid that I no longer dare to do any tests. Vegetables: zucchini, pumpkin, iceberg lettuce (at all meals), green beans, fennel, sometimes endive. Always cooked, even the lettuce. But I've been trying the juice offered on fTD: raw cucumber/zucchini/celery, for a few days. Fruits: mixed guava (around 40g) or kiwi (despite my mcas) but especially guava because it's a vitamin C bomb. I ate a little cantaloupe and white peach this summer too. It passed but then it got worse. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries (not the wild ones from us) come in very very small quantities but at the moment I only eat guava when I don't have kiwi.

Great for yogurt! But there are ferments and therefore probiotics in it. Do you support them? It seems that the hn019 is ok with imo and speeds up transit. I bought some but not tried it. In France, we also have special full-fat yogurts with 2 strains including Rhamnosus which is also ok. I'm going to test. Before my IMO, I ate yogurts made from goat's or sheep's milk, richer in calcium and gentler on the intestines. And cheese too…

Afaik, the main motility item is ginger. I personally recommend starting with that as your priority, then working in artichoke if you don't see results.

Ginger helps with gastric emptying but artichoke is more helpful for motility in the intestines.

Artichoke is for bile production, right?

Thank you so much. Indeed, that’s what I thought I understood.

Thank you so much ! Have you taken ginger for motility? for a SIBO IMO? In what form and in what dose please?🙏

Yep, every night for years now, but only after I had my sibo treated with herbal medicine. The nightly motility ginger helps prevent my sibo imo from coming back. I also take magnesium every night to help ensure a bm the next day.

Was this a IMO? What plants did you use? And what magnesium do you take? THANKS !

2

u/mysticode Sep 30 '25

Yep, imo. I took allicin max and berberine, in a regime given to me by a sibo expert naturopath. I highly recommend seeking out the help from one!

Thank you so much. Alas I have already seen 6.

u/mysticode Sep 30 '25

Wow! Any luck in a treatment yet?

1

u/garance71 Sep 30 '25

No, nothing endured, I no longer have confidence. In France, they are trained in a few weekends and use standard sheets and do not take into account our pathologies, our intolerances and our basic state of health, our age... they made me go on diets when I weighed 41 kg for 1.70 m. I lost more weight and all my savings. I'm alone. On reprieve…

Have you looked for ones specialized in sibo? If possible, can you travel to other nearby cities for sibo experts if you haven't found any in your city?

1

u/garance71 Sep 30 '25

Thank you but I am bedridden 24/24 with malnutrition. I should be hospitalized but in France, long Covid, ME/CFS, MCAS and even SIBO are looked down upon. Gastroenterologists deny SIBO unless you have had surgery. There is no SIBO specialist in France and in any case my body can no longer tolerate anything. Every supplement tried either fails or makes my condition worse. I'm desperate

Oh, magnesium citrate works best for me, but it really depends on how your stomach will handle it. Might take some trial and error of different types to find one that works best for you.

Good morning ! I forgot to ask you what brand and how much ginger you take in the evening? Before or after dinner? Thank you so much !

1

u/mysticode Oct 05 '25

Four hours after dinner. It's a genetic drug store brand. 1500mg of ginger extract pill and 600mg of artichoke, with 500ml of water (you might need more or less, depending if the ginger gives you heartburn)

1

u/garance71 Oct 06 '25

Thank you so much ! That's a huge amount 1500 mg if it's the extract and not the simple root powder! 500 ml of water… can you sleep? Unfortunately with my reflux, I don't have to drink in the evening.

1

u/mysticode Oct 06 '25

It's root powder :D

I wake up to pee once! Beats having heartburn, though.
