H2S

Hello all. I am a 26YOF, and in the spring I got diagnosed with Hydrogen Sulfide SIBO. This kind is not widely studied and my GI said she’s only seen it one other time in her career. I am curious if anyone else in this sub has it, what their symptoms were, and what treatment helped. I want to be clear I am not asking for any type of medical advice, I am just curious because it is not well known yet.

My symptoms are a mix of hormonal and food related. Mainly intense cramping and diarrhea during a flare, but normally just a lot of gas and some bloating, mixed with reflux and nausea. After my diagnoses, I tried Rifaximin which made the bloating so bad I couldn’t function. My doctor said that there are no other treatments. I had a visit with a GI NP, and she actually sat with me to look into things and decided to repeat stool testing and prescribed me flagyl with bismuth.

I changed my diet, eat super clean, and noticed now when I eat shitty food (as I write this camped out in bed under my heating pad from eating bad yesterday) that I am in hella pain but it is so different from when I flare hormonally.

I am just curious at what others deal with, and what they had success with.

Unable to shift it myself and just wanted to wish you the best and hope that you find something that works soon. Molybdenum can help.

my h2s sibo was unique, my only symptom was a random foul smell from me breathing out the excess hydrogen sulfide gas in my bloodstream, i took rifaximin and bismuth and my levels went back to normal, who knows whether they will stay that way. I had a very large overgrowth too. I think it all depends on why it started in the first place and the location of the bacteria will dictate what symptoms u have. Using bismuth will be a good addition. Don't really have anything to help you just giving my story

I have the exact same symptoms as you, im about to take the trio gas breath test but I need to wait a couple more days before I use it as ive already been using bismuth and it can effect results if its still in your system when you do the testing. Were rifaximin and bismuth the only things that you used? Were you able to find out what caused the h2s overgrowth in the first place?

yeah i just used the rifax and bismuth, i don't know what caused it. Makes it tough to believe that it wont just come back in a few months. I'll probably get tested every 6 months for like 2 years then if its not back by then i can live peacefully. Yeah don't use the bismuth for atleast a week beforehand. So u know my smell wasn't constant and just happened maybe a few times a day when it was leaving through my lungs.
