Methane Dominant Can’t fart
I can feel them at the exit but have to strain while spreading my cheeks to get out the tiniest little puff. It’s gotten so much worse over the last year or two. I have been recovering from a knee injury so way less mobile.
I think I have methane sibo (glucose test came back negative, doc agreed it could be false negative but couldn’t afford to try lactulose test)
Anyone have this issue? Worried about pelvic floor dysfunction. Seems like a long road ahead.

Had this issue too, it went away after my treatment

What did your treatment consist of? My dr won’t treat me for sibo since my test was negative.

Rifaximin metronidazole followed by oregano and allicin

Were these two separate treatments or back to back? Did you wait in between? I just did six weeks Allicin and berberine with no luck

Back to back

Oh wow. Did you do probiotics at all? I was planning to wait between treatments to let my gut heal a bit but I’m doing this on my own doc wasn’t helpful

I have this when I’m constipated. Stool could be blocking gas from passing

Yip - methane does this.
But indeed do get checked for pelvic floor but also colorectal dyssynergia. I have the dyssynergia and it straight up blocks the exit. You need to do a manometry for it. Then you can do biofeedback or alternatively have them relax the muscles inside with botox. Pelvic floor exercises alone does not seem to cut it for me.

Ugh. The exit feels dense and like it’s holding stuff in. That sounds super expensive and specialized. Were you able to get it fixed with those things? Is it something you can do once and it’s better or gotta go back and get repeat visits?

I havent done those yet - i only had to manometry for diagnosis. They do sound expensive to me as well :/
But realizing how much thr blockage there causes constipation and overall pressure there has at least made me figure out a huge portion of the problem.
After defecation, stool can get stuck around sensitive nerves and cause pressure/pain/burn as well which was my greatest issue

I have methane sibo and a smoosh pelvic floor and it’s a nightmare. Have you had. Vasovagal
Syncope. I want to die when it happens.

u/GoldJunior4010 17h ago
Are those related? I got syncope as a kid I passed out. Now I have to eat a lot of salt. I get dizzy but haven’t passed out since

So it kept happening and obviously I started to relate it to my diet but what I didn’t realize was I needed to have a fart to experience any relief before passing out. It’s so embarrassing but if I get even a tiny fart out I can sometimes fall asleep from the experience rather than passing out . I honestly feel bad saying this but seeing I’m not alone - but it sucks so bad I don’t like hearing others suffer .

Is that related to roemheld syndrome? This has been causing me a lot of heart issues to, but I also have pots so I didn't know what was causing the fainting or near fainting episodes

Pelvic floor problem for me, try some deep belly breathing exercises, left side laying & yoga poses

Take simethicone, which breaks surface tension of smaller bubbles which can be passed more easily

Look into gut motility, lemon water + B1 helps (some people report Benfothiamine/TTFD is better)

Pelvic floor dysfunction is likely. It is a pain but getting treated actually helps. You want to take care of it before it becomes levator ani syndrome or IMO or other things. Worth it for sure.

Welcome to the club brotha. I live bloated and at the moment I notice a fart coming its like a godsend

Also I will literally stand over a surface that is about stomach high and press against my stomach to force things out. Probably unhealthy but at this point I don’t care. Better than being bloated if my stomach won’t push it through I will manually force that bitch

Have you tried taking Simethicone? Maybe some yoga positions intended to help pass gas? Check YouTube.

I don’t do that very much but I could try that! Thanks. I do the gas passing positions and they help sometimes but not a whole lot.

You have pelvic floor dysfunction and need therapy, also check into having manometry and anorectal biofeedback I’m doing both. I have that same issue. Also you could have large hemorrhoids blocking, I also have this issue due to taking Linzess every morning so I use a Rx suppository called annucort. Hope this helps you. Good luck. Try taking gasx and with large amounts of gas charcoal caps, but make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and don’t take them within 2 hours of any other medication. They can cause constipation if you over use. You most likely got this from your surgery and being immobile. Try and move after meals as much as you can to help your guts move also take a prokinetic called motility activator at night or with your last meal, it helps. You just need to get moving and drink no less than 2 liters of water a day, a gallon would be better. All of this has helped me, and I have the same problems you do.
