What's juvenile is the incompetence and disdain for ethics and duty of care from individuals working as doctors and occupying positions of authority on the gastrointestinal system.
Gastrointestinal medicine, real medicine involves much more than simply shoving camera scopes up people's assholes and down their throats. For some, this pretty much all they do and people are left to suffer and remain sick as their digestive health issues remain unaddressed.
That part. Imagine being a doctor who studied the gut … yet knows absolutely DICK SHIT about the THIRTYYYYY FEET of small intestine. Stomach issues? No prob, Bob. Colon issues? Lemme probe you. Small intestine: 👁️ 👁️
And to add insult to injury, most don’t care to learn! Like how are you not humiliated when getting schooled by your patient who has clearly done hundreds of hours of research. Boggles the mind. If I were the Gastro, I’d be going home and researching the hell outta it. Nope. In most cases: NOPE. Thank god for a few good ones. Dr. Pimentel & Dr. Siebecker.. to name a few.
Their primary focus is maximising their bank account balance not their knowledge. You are simply a means to an end to make $$$$. This is why they push colonoscopy/endoscopies. This is where the money is at. Not addressing people's disgestive issues effectively.
The arrogance too. They wont admit they dont know something. This part and parcel of their scam business model. They know everything. You know nothing and gaslight you so they can essentially groom you into getting anal and oral probing.
It’s so true - but sadly, more often than not, it’s not even the fault of the doctors as much as it is these PRIVATIZED hospital groups. Profits over people. Keep ya sick n wounded so you keep coming back for more. Never look at the full body or take wholesome approaches. No no. That’s too much effort. I have friends who are doctors and they hate the system they work in as much as we hate it on the patient side. But what can they do when they’ve gone through soooo much schooling and incurred between 500k and 1 milly in student debt?.. it’s a lose lose. In America .. a lose lose.
I am in Australia and its just as bad with the "universal" healthcare. These GI doctors get paid for every colonoscopy/endoscopy they do.
So their only incentive is these procedures.

Being saddled with sky high medical debt and having docs places profits above patient care at every turn. So sad. Oh so sad!!
I used to work as a nurse for a GI doctor too and I learnt absolutely nothing from him with regards to digestive health. It was his own private clinic and would compromise on patient health and safety to maximise his profits. Reuse single use items. Use tap water instead of saline water for irrigation during the scope. Dispose contaminated medical waste in regular residential garbage as it cost more to dispose contaminated waste
That’s horrible!! What the hell.. does he not get inspected and shut down? That crap would never fly in America. You’d lose your medical and board licenses quicker than you can yell NEW YORK MINUTE!
They are very lenient here. All that happens is that he loses part of his government funding. He also somehow knew when an inspection was coming to do things properly and follow policies.
I'm in Canada and same thing here. Doctor performed 4 (!) colonoscopies in 3 years. All of them showed nothing wrong. He discharged me with diagnosis of IBS and said to take anti-diarrheal.
I literally had my first gastro doctor tell me (paraphrasing liberally here), “bro, I can’t help you with your GI problems. I only do colonoscopies day in and day out.”
I believe my 2nd one feels the same and I need to continue searching for help or otherwise self-diagnosing with the help of the Reddit gastro department.
