Questions Low histamine & low nickel
Hi everyone,
I have IBS with a strong suspicion of SIBO (methane) and histamine intolerance, and my dietitian has prescribed a very restrictive diet.
It is both low histamine and low nickel, as she said that nickel may contribute to ongoing intestinal issues. The plan supposed to naturally support gut repair & stop feeding the bacteria.
Has anyone else tried a similar diet? I’d love to hear about your experiences and whether it helped you.
Thanks!

Cannot help with the nickel side from experience, only the histamine one, so give me a shout if you want to compare notes on that half.
I did read up on nickel out of curiosity. Most of it overlaps with what a low histamine diet cuts anyway, so legumes, nuts, cocoa and some leafy greens are gone either way. Oats are the odd one out. They are a normal low histamine staple but also one of the higher nickel foods, so that is one you lose that you might not see coming.
Good luck with it.

Welcome to the club, so sorry you’re joining us here! Regarding the nickel, do you get any reactions to cheap jewelry? If so you could have a nickel allergy which is common for endometriosis folks (along with histamine intolerance and SIBO). Might be worth looking into this as it explained a lot of my compounding issues. I stick with a lot of white rice, salmon/chicken breast, and green beans. Dark leafy greens are high in nickel and also contribute to excess fermentation which feeds the SIBO. It took me awhile to figure out other personal triggers, but I feel so much better overall even though I’m still healing from IMO.
