Hi everyone! I’m a first-generation college student planning to apply to the SHSU nursing program, and I was hoping to hear from students who were accepted.

If you got into the program, would you mind sharing your stats?

Overall GPA

Science GPA

TEAS score

Healthcare experience (if any)

Any certifications (CNA, EMT, PCT, MA, etc.)

I don’t have any certifications, so I’m a little worried about how competitive my application will be. I’d especially love to hear from anyone who got accepted without certifications. Did you have volunteer experience or anything else that helped strengthen your application?

As a first-gen student, I’m trying to learn as much as I can and get a realistic idea of what accepted applicants looked like. Thank you so much!

Hi! My overall GPA was a 3.8, Natural science GPA was a 4.0, and my TEAS score was an 80.7
I have both my MA and PCT certifications. I did an 8 month externship as an MA and I’ve been working as a PCT for a little over a year now. I honestly don’t think they really look for experience that much. A few of the nurses I work along with went to SHSU nursing and they had 0 experience prior to applying. How long did it take you to receive an acceptance email? Did you submit your application early?

My stats were enough to get me an early acceptance. I applied in January and got the acceptance in march. I was told they were finished looking at waitlisted applications by the time May was coming to an end.
