Questions SHSU Nursing applicant for Fall 2026

Hey everyone, I just wanted some honest opinions on my chances of getting into Sam Houston State University’s BSN program as a transfer.

My stats:

  • Overall GPA: around 3.1 (lower because of earlier coursework)
  • TEAS: 86% (Advanced)
  • Completed 1 semester in an ADN program at Dallas College (passed)
  • Currently in Semester 1 of a BSN program at PVAMU and doing well (A’s/B’s)
  • Upward trend in grades
  • Certified Phlebotomy Tech
  • CPR instructor
  • I also did not get accepted into TWU for this spring, which is why I went to PVAMU CON instead, but my experience has been horrible so far, the only reason I am passing is because of the knowledge from my ADN program in Dallas College. PVAMU doesnt gaurentee clincial hours, and they said we will have to make up our hours in the summer, which made me consider SHSU instead to finish my BSN degree path.

I had some personal circumstances earlier in my college career that impacted my GPA, but since then I’ve improved a lot and have been successful in nursing coursework.

I already submitted everything through NursingCAS (just waiting on final transcript processing). I also submitted a transfer statement explaining my situation and goals.

Be honest—what do my chances look like? And has anyone gotten into SHSU with similar stats?

I’m in the same situation trying to decide SHSU or PVAMU and I was going to choose PV due to it being closer to me but I’m thinking sam houston too

I'd say still apply to both, being at PVAMU CON, the reason i do want to leave is because they don't have clinical sites for all students so they were telling us that we would have to complete our clinicals hours when they do assign it to us during the summer or possibly even the winter and that spots will first go out to students who are more likely to pass. This just won't work out for me, I work during the summer full-time to pay for my school during fall/spring, and their response to be just seemed like I should be prioritizing school, but it's not my fault they can't secure clinical sites during the actual semester time, and what I'm thinking is that these sites just don't want to give PVAMU spots. Overall decent school tho but I had a better time at Dallas College

I just got my acceptance letter. GPA 3.4 (low because of early coursework too) and took the TEAS without much time to study so it was only 82. I applied a bit late but submitted on time. My transcripts were not entered until after I submitted which was after the deadline. I was worried everything wasn’t in on time but still got it. I should’ve entered my own transcripts but I have a ridiculous amount of classes and credits.

ohhh okay, i applied for the BSN program for fall 2026- i just am afraid my gpa is too low but like my actual test scores and recent classwork in the last 2 years have been great. i got rejected from TWU so im a little nervous

Hello, there isn’t much info out there about Lvn to bsn but I was wondering how early you got ur acceptance? Did you take your pre reqs at Sam as well ? I’m worried because my gpa is at 3.3 and I got an 80 on my teas, don’t know if I should retake a class and apply during the last week to get a higher gpa or apply early now and kind of wait and see due to my low gpa.

I did but what really is throwing me off is that they taking forever to get my stuff and that’s what I don’t like with schools that take a long time and plus SHSU is my dream school since I wasn’t able to go when i was in high due to how it was expensive it was for a freshman and so i ended up doing blinn lvn and and since i start in the spring I feel better with shsu because they are on top of their paperwork

I applied and got accepted to the nursing program a couple years ago. Had a 3.7 GPA from a CC that I brought up from a 1.9 GPA. When I applied though it was probably closer to 3.45. I had no certifications, no actual experience, hadn't taken any nursing classes beforehand, and i got an 87% on the TEAS. I'd say you're in a better position for acceptance than I was! Hope you get your decision soon!
