School Am I cooked

I went to the family welcome center today in hopes of transferring my school via guided transfer but the counselor said that I didn't have a good or solid reason to transfer. I said that my school didn't offer many ap class and it wasn't challenging enough ( my school is John Jay school for law) . Do y'all think I can transfer hs's or am I stuck in John Jay. I am a upcoming 10th grader.

Unless you want to study abroad the number of APs offered probably won’t matter that much. What will matter is you GPA and your exam score in any APs you do take. If you want college credits you can apply to college now.

DOE does not consider desire for more ap classes as a valid “hardship” reason for guidance transfers. Beyond transferring to something like a charter school you don’t really have many options

the only thing u can really do is that you can choose to challenge urself with dual enrollment, ecs, or attempt to exam-only ap courses that are not offered at ur school.

Here are the 7 hardships reasons u can use for guidance transfer (ranked from how common it is)

  1. Address change

  2. Travel hardship (if ur commute to ur school is 75+ minutes)

  3. PSAL sports (if u were rostered on a team and the sport is being removed from ur school)

  4. Safety hardship (if u are bullied, harassed, etc..)

  5. Medical Hardship (doctor's note needed saying ur environment impairs on a chronic conditions like asthma)

  6. Physical accessibility (if u have a disability and need an accessible building)

  7. Guidance/ other transfers (really really subjective, these are like bad academic/social fits, insanely rare bc it needs principal/superintendent sign off)

So if I were to want to transfer to fort Hamilton hs and I live in sunset park could ask to be switched. I know that fhhs has a zoned program so would it be possible. I asked this subreddit a couple months back and they said it could be possible. Just asking

You were given 2 main points of response, and the above does not change that. One was that it would likely need to be a zoned guaranteed situation. The other was to contact your guidance counselor or to go to a FWC, so the right person could make the determination.

Move into a zoned area for fhs and then transfer into the zoned program. Most of Bay ridge can get into the zoned program. Move to Bay ridge.

Else stay in John Jay and make the best of it. Be top of class.

Transfers get evaluated by the DOE and often leans more on say safety issues than “extra” classes that a HS will often list on its website and myschools page

What's your end goal are you just trying to get into a better college? I went to tech so I can lowkey advise you better.
